Zanze’s Blueberry Cheesecake

We had a chance to drop by Zanze’s Cheesecake to pick up a yummy cheesecake. We decided to try the blueberry one for ourselves and pick up a cherries with Kirsch for our friends.

I didn’t get to photograph it before Ron dug into it. So far this is my favorite. I love the blueberries on top, not to sweet and still had a bite to them so gave it a good contrast with the creamy cheesecake.

If you want to order one for Thanksgiving, they make a pumpkin cheesecake and orders have to be in the Saturday before Thanksgiving! Apparently they sell about 400 cheesecakes during the week before Thanksgiving. Amazing.

Cako Bakery

Our friends brought us some cupcakes from a new bakery in Union Square: Cako Bakery. They have a simple, cute logo.

The cupcake on the left was some sort of carrot cake with a cream cheese frosting. Ron ate the cake with only about half the frosting. I believe the one I ate was a red velvet cupcake, also a bit too much frosting so I only ate half of the frosting, but without it, the cake was a bit dry.

They’re worth a try while they’re having a buy one get one free offer when you mention Yelp but I prefer my cupcakes a bit more moist with less frosting (or at least frosting that isn’t so sweet).

Birthday

My co-workers decided to treat me to cake for my birthday today. I usually bake for them when it’s their birthday but they wouldn’t let me bake for my own birthday.

Monica ordered a tropical and peach mousse cake from Schubert’s Bakery.

Look at all that yummy chocolate and sweet and delicious mousse!

In our little infusion center breakroom:

After the singing, ready to dig in:

The cake was very yummy, I could taste the passion fruit, so good.

For dinner, Ron and I just went somewhere within walking distance as I was still recovering from the marathon, my shins and feet were still super sore.

Carnegie Deli Cheesecake

Our friend went to New York recently and brought us back and cheesecake from Carnegie Deli. We decided to host a dinner and cheesecake tasting.

We bought a Zanze’s frozen cheesecake from Mollie Stone’s (since Zanze’s is only open Tues thru Sat) to taste alongside the Carnegie Deli’s Cheesecake.

I wouldn’t say there was a clear winner as everyone liked each cheesecake for different reasons. Zanze’s is very light with very little graham but also very filling. The Carnegie Deli’s cheesecake was really dense and creamy and had a really thick crust.

Patisserie Philippe

Ron happened across Patisserie Philippe while downtown and picked up a few pastries for us to share. On the right side, French macaroons: cassis, passion fruit, and hazelnet. On the left side, a apricot tart.

So far I’ve only tried the macaroons and the cassis had a bit too much cream so it squished out when you bite into it, good if you like messy eats, and the passion fruit nice and tart. Ron liked the hazelnut one so he had that one for himself. The apricot tart looks really yummy, can’t wait to try it out.

According to their website, they also have sandwiches, salads, quiche, and lots of other yummy pastries. I think I will have to pay a personal visit someday soon.
