Getting Ready for Snow

Thursday, March 6, 2014

Simon’s lunch of pasta with ham, broccoli, and carrots. A small Fuji apple, strawberries, one thin mint, and some fruit snacks.

Iris ready for our Tahoe trip that is coming up. She is starting to pull off her hats so with this chin strap, it makes it harder for her so hopefully she will keep it on when we are up in the snow. I think it makes her look pretty funny because her cheeks are all squished.

She has had a bit of a runny nose so hadn’t been able to sleep lying down. Lucky for us, she is always pretty cheerful whenever she is sick.

Puckered Lips Take #2

Wednesday, March 5, 2014

I made Simon a ham and cheese sandwich with strawberries and more Korean melon. When I asked him what he wanted for fruit, he requested the melon again. This little boy loves all melons: watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe, and Korean melon.

Silly girl still puckering her lips, complete with “smacking” sounds.

Simon was really into Disney Pixar Cars, now he really loves Disney Pixar Planes. I got him this activity book at Costco and he’s been really enjoying cutting things out, coloring, and just flipping through it.

Puckered Lips

Tuesday, March 4, 2014

Simon’s lunch today of Korean melon (those yellow ones), mini chicken tacos, carrots, and some cookies. We didn’t get to do the cookie decorating activity at Simon’s birthday party so I offered it to Simon’s class to do as an indoor activity. They did the decorating yesterday with the white and colored royal icing plus various toppings like sprinkles and candy eyeballs and candy mustaches. I think the kids had fun and of course, Simon was eager to eat them.

Iris’ new thing is sucking in her cheeks and puckering her lips. She looks silly.

Doctor Checkups

Monday, March 3, 2014

Simon went to school for half a day because he and Iris had their medical checkups today. He still had lunch at school of chicken nuggets, spiral pasta, green grapes, and strawberries.

I took this picture of the bath wall this morning. Simon drew this during his bath last night. He got these bath paints from Uncle William for Christmas. I think this is his version of a giraffe. I’m pretty impressed 🙂

So both kids had good checkups today. Iris had a fun time playing with the paper covering the examination table. Simon didn’t cry this time until after his first shot. He got two shots today and immediately starting crying after his first shot but still took the second one without too much fuss. He didn’t cry for very long though so I’m very proud of him. Last year he wouldn’t even let the doctor examine him nor let the nurse take his height and weight. He breezed through the measurements and even passed his vision and hearing test with flying colors.

After the appointments, we went to Japantown for a frozen yogurt treat.

Then waited for Daddy to get off work and meet us in Japantown for dinner at Ramen Underground. Iris really liked the noodles. I really liked the grilled mochi. We also had takoyaki. I think Simon was a little turned off by the “moving” bonito flakes.

Simon’s 4th Birthday Party

Sunday, March 2, 2014

It wasn’t supposed to rain… but it did 🙁 BUT, almost everyone still came and our family and friends did a great job pitching in to make the party a success. I can’t believe that Simon is 4 years old! Happy Birthday to my little man!

Here are some select photos. We held the party at the North Temescal Picnic Area where we had good coverage from one tree but the rain was still pretty strong off and on. Ron had to run to Home Depot this morning to buy the canopies for some coverage from the rain. We had Magician Mike Della Penna come perform for the party and it seems like the kids (and adults) had a great time! Simon participated in a special magic trick with the magician where he produced lollipops for everyone. We set up some carnival games for the kids: pin on the silly mustache, magnetic fishing, banana bean bag toss, and beading. There was supposed to be sack races and egg spoon races and coloring and cookie decorating but didn’t work out because of the weather.

Thank you so much to everyone who came out in the rain to celebrate with us! Next time I won’t trust the weather report… I’ve learned my lesson.

Here is a slideshow of more photos. In the craziness of the morning, I didn’t take many photos myself so these are mostly from Grandpa Chung.

It was much better to get home and be warm and open presents! We’ll be sending thank you notes shortly…
