Super Fun Birthday Party

Sunday, May 4, 2014

So we attended a super fun birthday party today which Simon said was the “bestest” party. It was in Fairfield for our friends’ girls who are/were turning 6 years old. Daddy didn’t join us because he was helping Grandpa Tam set up his salt water fish tank. Before we left, Simon helped Daddy with cleaning some sand.

Simon was a little shy at the beginning of the party since he didn’t know the kids there but started warming up as the entertainment and food fun started. First the snow cone truck came and he got his favorite flavor: watermelon.

Iris got to wear Simon’s lei that came with the snow cone. Funny little smirk she has.

She was a little tired.

Then the face painter came and Simon was really excited for a full face butterfly. He describes that he wants red but also a rainbow.

He’s waiting for the reveal.

Then he decides he is ready to play inside the jumper and play on the bouncy slide.

Then it was time for cake. Simon wanted to touch it. He liked the black and white stripes like a zebra.

Then it was ice cream time and they had an ice cream cart with a large selection of cones and toppings. Simon got oreo cookie and topped with M&Ms and gummy bears. He waited semi-patiently in line. The kids were too excited though and a bit pushy and shoving each other.

After ice cream, it was time to head home. Both kids fast asleep.

Then Daddy came home to let Mommy rest after a full afternoon with both kids.

Iris, the messy water drinker. Her onesie is all soaked. The onesie says “I drink until I pass out”.

Free Comic Book Day

Saturday, May 3, 2014

While Simon was at his swim class this morning, I went to the library to return his library books and happened upon free comics for Free Comic Book Day. They had a small selection of free issues and each person was allowed to take three. I was almost tempted just to get three copies of the Hello Kitty comic but instead just took one and two others for Simon to read. The main Berkeley Public Library is pretty cool.

After Simon finished his swim class, we headed over to the farmer’s market to get some lunch and since there was no line, I got to enjoy a Blue Bottle drip coffee.

We had to go into work in Oakland Chinatown for a few hours then we separated for the evening. Ron and the kids went to visit the Chung grandparents in Millbrae.

While my dad went to a work-related function in Alameda.

It was definitely an exhausting day.

T-Rex Restaurant Family Dinner

Friday, May 2, 2014

Ready to head out to enjoy some sunshine.

This boy can eat fruit. The other day he ate an entire Bosc pear after eating his cereal. Today he chomps on a Fuji apple slice.

Since it’s Friday, it’s our weekly dinner either outside or take-out. Today we decided on trying T-Rex Restaurant in Berkeley. Pretty tasty BBQ, albeit a little on the pricier side. Best things we had were the pork shoulder and the twice cooked brisket. I tried a “birch beer” which sort of tasted like a root beer.

Grandpa Tam was able to join us for dinner too.

The kids’ hot dog was definitely worth the price. The bread a little dry but the hot dog was large and pretty tasty according to Simon since he ate the whole thing.

Climbing Up Stairs

Thursday, May 1, 2014

Simon’s lunch of homemade lunchables: pizza sauce, crackers, cheese, and pepperoni. Plus carrots, strawberries, and mango.

On our way to bath time, Iris showed off her new skill which I did not even know she could do. She climbed up the stairs! I’m holding her dress because it was a little long and she kept on getting caught.

Can’t believe how fast this little girl is growing.

Or what a big boy Simon is. I’m glad he has no fear of water and likes to practice his backfloat.

Iris likes standing in the tub for some reason. Maybe easier for her and less stress on the legs. Simon is generally pretty careful around her during bath time so he has not accidentally nudged her down yet.
