Spaghetti

Day 330 = January 26, 2011

New PJs from Christmas, thank you Auntie Tiffany and Uncle Alex!

Off to daycare this morning!

What’s for dinner? Spaghetti!

Hmm… this stuff is pretty good!

Simon seems to be almost over his cold. His nose is no longer runny but he still has a little bit of a cough. But his appetite is back. He had fun eating whole wheat spaghetti noodles tonight.

After dinner, Simon and daddy played a game of tic-tac-toe.

I can drink from a straw

Day 329 = January 25, 2011

Simon surprised us by actually being able to drink water from a straw. It takes him some effort but he’s able to drink his fill.

Simon has been obsessed with our digital camera lately and if he sees it, he’ll go straight for it. If he has the choice of an iPhone, remote control, or camera… the camera wins lately. He presses the buttons and turns the dial. When I was letting him play with it, I suddenly saw a flash. Apparently he had figured out how to turn on the camera and also to take a picture… of himself.

Chopsticks

Day 327 = January 23, 2011

Mommy and Daddy, I want to use chopsticks like you!

We had lunch together at King of Thai Noodle House in Union Square. I had the roast duck noodle soup.

Ron had a rice dish with minced chicken.

We shared an appetizer of fish cake wrapped in tofu skin and deep fried.

After lunch, we did some shopping together before Ron went back to a coffee shop and Simon and I headed home. Simon and I made a stop for a snack and cup of coffee. We sat outside to watch the cable cars rumble by.

When we arrived home, Simon was exhausted after our excursion and went right for a nap but woke up to have dinner with us. Silly boy showed us how lazy he was feeling.

Since his nap was late, he went to be a little later than normal but you could tell he was exhausted by his droopy eyes.

Love for the Camera

Day 326 = January 22, 2011

Look, I can hold my own sippy cup with both hands.

Mommy, I’m stuck and don’t know what to do! Simon was standing next to his dresser and crawled into the space between it and his bed and for some reason, couldn’t figure his way out even though the space is quite large and he has room to move. Maybe it was just a new situation and he didn’t know what to make of it.

Simon is fascinated by our digital camera. So fascinated that he was grabbing it with both hands and didn’t realize he was just standing there. This was taken with my phone since he had the camera.

Here’s a video from my camera too. I wonder what is so fascinating about our electronic devices: phones, cameras, remote controls, TV, etc.

Although still a bit sick, we went out to dinner at this place in Oakland called Marica Restaurant. Simon was quite fussy the entire meal because the restaurant was quite loud and had dim lighting. When we went outside after dinner, he quieted down right away.

I had the prix fixe menu for $21 ($25 if after 6pm) which includes an appetizer, entree, and dessert. For appetizer I chose the chopped salad. Seasoned well and I loved the avocado.

Ron ordered the soup of the day: asparagus and crab.

I tried their ginger limeade cocktail. The ginger was kind of light but the drink overall was good and had a nice tanginess to it.

They gave us complimentary mussels. Yummy fragrant broth.

Ron ordered he seafood stew which had great aroma.

The entree for the prix fixe today was the grilled escolar with lemongrass beurre blanc, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. I had a nice sized portion of fish and it was delicious.

For dessert I had the chocolate souffle (usually +$5 to the prix fixe but was complimentary as well). So delicious, nice and warm with cool vanilla ice cream on top.

It was a delicious meal and nice experience. The Rockridge area of Oakland has really changed since we went to school at Berkeley. There are lots of restaurants and cool looking boutiques around. I hope we can go back for another visit soon and try another new restaurant.
