Simon has been using his little teeth to chomp on his food. He’s contemplating biting onto this slice of apple.
Chomp!
Yum, this is good!
We spent the day out visiting with Grandma and Grandpa Tam. We had a full day with dim sum and shopping before heading back to their home for a nap before dinner. My mom and I ended up waiting in the car while Simon napped and waiting for my dad to get back from work.
After we came back from dinner, Simon showed off his walking skills to Grandma and Grandpa Tam. I think he found it easier to walk on their floors because they are hard and don’t squish like foam mats do. He had a great time as you can hear, he’s basically talking the whole time while walking.
Simon watching Youtube videos on daddy’s phone already? Boy, the grow up fast! Just kidding! He’s hasn’t figured out how to do that yet, he just likes to hold and play with our phones. He gnaws on mine because it has a soft case.
I love his cute expression in this picture!
Mr BiB (Baby in Blue) looking cool and giving daddy a hi-five!
Heading out ready for Gymboree. I don’t know why he still has his hand inside the munchie mug, he wasn’t eating snacks at the time.
Just chilling and surprisingly keeping his sunglasses on.
Today Simon enjoyed the slide at Gymboree. He can’t balance himself all the way down yet so I support his back and legs so that he can glide down. He was smiling all the way to the bottom.
Simon practiced walking a lot today while at Gymboree. He moved from holding me to holding the play structures.
Having a late lunch at McDonald’s although he’s not eating McD food. I was surprised this McD had high chairs and they were pretty nice ones too with wheels and a secure lock tray.
After lunch, we went to a party in Oakland and Simon borrowed one of the hosts’ party hat.
It’s amazing how quickly Simon is learning to walk. Here I am trying to get him to walk towards me… instead he gets distracted and gets his minion (Despicable Me).
Now, if only I could add scary music to this, it would be like “Blue monster M approaching…” I shot this using my Flip video camera so it doesn’t work well with close-up videos.
Simon is becoming quite curious and his favorite thing lately is check out what’s inside the hood of his car. We put things inside and he tries to peer into it to see what we put there, take it out, then put it back in. He also gets really upset these days when we take away a toy that he really wants. He’ll throw a big hissy fit if we take it away. Sometimes we’ll return it and he’ll stop crying right away and sometimes we just let him cry it out so that he doesn’t get too spoiled.
I think we’ll need to do more child proofing soon to let Simon roam around the apartment.
Look at Simon’s bottom teeth, now you can see three fully, the fourth is half-way out.
Simon likes to play peek-a-boo behind everything. Sometimes it’s just a piece of clothing, a stuffed animal, or a toy. In this case, the lid of his shape sorter.
Poor Simon has chapped cheeks. His face has been so moist from all this drool.
A little more practice today with walking. We can entice to him to move with appealing toys.
We haven’t taken many pictures of Simon in the bath so thought I’d better capture some moments now. Rub-a-dub-dub, fun in the tub!
Simon was fascinated by the water coming out of the shower head. He was touching the streams with his fingers and trying to grab at them.
“S” is for “Simon”! These are foam shapes of letters and numbers. They float and can stick to the tub.
Simon smiling back at me this morning at breakfast. For some reason he found it funny when I grinned at him.
Simon had red little cheeks today when we picked him up from daycare. He had been drooling a lot and his nose is still runny. My hands have been chapped from the dry weather so I’m guessing the combo of the weather and his drool and nose running, made his cheeks red. He’ll need some moisturizing for the next few days.
The little man had a big appetite tonight and has been taking his medicine well. I’m so glad he’s getting better so quickly and turning back into his normal self. Although he still goes to bed a little earlier than normal, today around 8:30pm. Ron removed the pillow in his bed since he’s not really congested anymore (just runny nose) so doesn’t need to be propped up and Ron seemed to think that it might be causing Simon to slouch. But Simon has woken up briefly a few times now and seems to have created his own pillow with Pooh.
I guess whatever is comfortable… I wouldn’t want to move Pooh or else I might wake him.
I try to post only cute pictures of Simon but I thought I’d show an unhappy (not-cute) picture of Simon. He wanted to be picked up and held.
I was exhausted this evening so went to bed early so Ron played with Simon until Simon wanted to go to sleep. First they played with Elmo making chomping noises and chomping on his hand. Simon found it entertaining.
Then Simon practiced walking by cruising around with this pal Ziggie the Zebra.
They went for a walk around the room. Ron thinks that “Simon and Ziggie” would be a good cartoon (like Calvin and Hobbes).
And he practiced walking by himself before going to bed.
Ziggie is the perfect size for Simon’s hand to hold and squeeze. It’s also a super soft plush so good for naptime at daycare and at home. It is a bit long though so Simon can get tripped up on the extremities and tail. It seems like Simon has gotten attached to Ziggie AND Pooh so at least he has two stuffed animals that he likes so we won’t be so stressed if one goes missing or if we need to wash one. Pooh went for a hand wash today since it’s starting to get a bit funky smelling and dirty looking.
This week we have also started to wean Simon off his pacifier. Lately he seems to be very dependent on it for calming him down. On Monday night, Ron decided to cut part of the nipple off of the pacifier so that Simon would have to “work” to keep it in his mouth. Simon cried for a while but eventually gave up and went to sleep. Now he has been pacifier free for the last two days and hasn’t been overly fussy which I thought he would be. We haven’t given it to him again since that first night and he’s been going to sleep without it and not needing it during the day. I guess “cold turkey” is the way to go.
