Introduction to iPad

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

I introduced Iris to this baby rattle game on the iPad. At first she just watched it then she started banging on the iPad. Basically, this object will bounce around the screen and make silly noises each time you touch the screen or touch the object. It’s a bit loud and I can see how it can be scary but she found it interesting but only for a short time. She rather play with physical objects.

“Mommy, turn this thing off!”

Intense Eating

Iris very intense and content while eating.

It’s spring break for Simon so he will be staying around home this week instead of going to “spring camp” at school. Last break he said it wasn’t very fun at “camp” because most of his friends don’t attend so he decided he’d prefer to stay at home this time around.

Iris, Happy 11 Months!

Sunday, April 13, 2014

Today we visited the Oakland Zoo with friends. Simon checking out the flamingoes.

It was a beautiful sunny day. Mommy and Iris.

We were so busy seeing the animals that we didn’t take pictures with our friends and kiddos but I’m sure we’ll have more play dates in the future.

At home after a fun filled morning. I love Iris’ little toothy grin.

Simon’s got a big toothy grin too.

Iris is 11 months already! Can you believe it? She is super mobile and it’s difficult to capture her in pictures sometimes, especially when I don’t want her to move or actually coordinate some sort of pose.

My favorite one though: “Look! I’m 11 months!”

Downtown Berkeley

Saturday, April 12, 2014

Simon had his swim class this morning and the teacher worked with him on floating on his back. Simon’s belly tends to sink and he pulls his chin toward his chest so the teacher was helping him to correct his position and he is able to float for a few seconds before having to “jack knife” and stand up.

After swim class, we visited the Farmer’s Market nearby and picked up some delicious strawberries and carrots. Simon’s favorite thing though was the balloon twisting lady. He requested a turtle and she kindly obliged. He’s so happy with his turtle.

Then we stopped by the Downtown Berkeley library to pick up our library cards and check out some books. The children’s section is near the top and it was beautiful and spacious. They had a large carpeted area for kids to read or play and had tons of books! Simon liked to sit in this rocket.

We went home for lunch so Simon could have a nap. While Simon and Daddy napped, I took Iris for a stroll around our neighborhood. She really likes being outdoors and observing everything.

In the late afternoon, Auntie Betty and Uncles Henry and William dropped by for a visit. Uncle Henry is eyeing Iris’ snacks while Auntie Betty is watching TV.

We all went to dinner at Bowl’d Charcoal Grill in Oakland. We were too intent on eating so I didn’t take many pictures except for their delicious fried potatoes (sweet and savory) and their delicious fried chicken (regular and special Bowl’d sweet and spicy). I love this place more each time we eat there. They even reserved a table for us on a Saturday night. Only problem is that parking is sometimes difficult on Telegraph Ave but it won’t deter me from eating here again. I really want to try their hot pot.

Also, generally, if the kids like it, we also like it.

Distracted by Television

Ron stayed home with Iris in the morning because Annie had to run an errand. Iris was still sleeping when I left to take Simon to school and go to work so Ron sent me this picture of them.

Iris has a favorite sleeping corner on Annie’s futon. Iris seems to like to be “enclosed” with pillows and blankets around her head. It must keep her warm and comfortable.

Simon really likes to watch television. He does not watch everyday so he thinks of it as a treat. Iris does not usually pay attention when the television is on unless there is a song she likes but she was very distracted by the television today.

Plus she loves to do whatever big brother does!
