Simon At Home Sick Day 2

Friday, May 9, 2014

Simon still did not feel well this morning so he stayed home from school again. He was still exhausted after we woke up although coughed a lot less last night. As I was leaving, he had a big smile on his face as Annie gave him a large set of cards featuring butterflies. He really loves butterflies lately. It was good to see him so happy even when not feeling well.

I brought him a treat after I got off work from a new drink place in Oakland Chinatown called i-Tea. They have a buy 1, get 1 free milk tea with boba offer for their grand opening. Thank you to Lucy for waiting in line to get all the drinks for us! From left to right: taro milk tea with boba and grass jelly, mango slushie with boba, and passion fruit QQ with boba. Then also the 3 free milk tea, subbed with grass jelly instead of boba (so that I could save them in the fridge and not have the boba get hard and inedible).

If you’re going to go try it out, expect long lines! Unfortunately, Simon ended up not like the mango slushie. For some reason, he didn’t want the mango fruit inside. So I drank it instead and he had milk. He was upset this morning that we ran out of milk so I went to buy some in the afternoon at the nearby Smart & Final. I haven’t shopped there in years so was surprised at how much interesting and good stuff they sell there. The milk we normally buy is a pretty good price there, cheaper than Safeway for sure.

Iris is becoming a better communicator. She signaled to me that she wanted to put on this headband.

She is still healthy so far. No signs of Simon’s cough. Simon was also much better today and Annie said he was full of energy and had a good day playing inside and outside. He seems recovered now and just needed another day at home to feel better.

At Home Sick

Thursday, May 8, 2014

Simon was coughing last night and this morning, he woke up exhausted and a bit wheezy so he stayed home from school today. When I got home from work, he was a bit warm and measured at 100.5F and had been laying on the sofa all day just resting. He ate some lunch but didn’t want to play at all. He was even too tired to just sit and watch TV (which is one of his favorite things to do). Poor guy was able to muster up a smile for me though.

Iris is over her illness but I hope she doesn’t get whatever Simon has. She’s full of energy though and did not want to take a bath to go to bed. She’s trying to escape the bathroom.

Little Chicks

Wednesday, May 7, 2014

Simon’s lunch of apricot, peach, strawberries, chicken quesadilla, and carrots. I can’t take credit for making this quesadilla, it was leftover from dinner last night.

It makes me happy to see the little chicks at school when I’m there to drop off Simon and pick him up. It reminds me of the time when I had a pet chick when I was little. Even though it gave me lice and it eventually disappeared from our backyard, likely eaten by another animal :(, I have fond memories of just holding and petting the little animal.

Now these are my little chicks!

I’m glad they get along relatively well. I think it’s sweet that Simon likes to take a bath together with Iris rather than by himself.

Today at work we offered free health screenings with a mobile health clinic. My Dad helped all afternoon with translation and the employees chipped in too in order to offer this great service to our community. Check out the bus!

When I got home from work, little Iris showed off her modeling poses.

Actually she just really wanted to escape the room but didn’t know how she should approach getting past the curtain.

Simon making a not so cute pose, saying “chooz!”.

Roseola

Simon’s lunch of mini corn dogs, carrots, cheese, mango, and probiotic drink.

Simon’s class has started a unit on living and non-living things. Apparently they had been incubating eggs and just this past weekend, some of the chicks hatched. They were brought to school this morning for the kids to observe.

A few weeks back, he had a field trip to Spiral Gardens and they planted some beans. The plant finally started to grow last week and it’s getting bigger each day.

After school, we decided to do some bubble blowing in the front yard. Simon was super happy.

Until the bubbles kept on popping as he was blowing. So I showed him he had to be more “gentle” and “slow” with his breathing in order to blow larger bubbles.

Little Iris has been feeling warm all weekend. I measured her once at 103F and gave her some acetaminophen since she couldn’t sleep that night. But surprisingly, she was still in a good mood and eating and drinking well so she didn’t seem sick.

Then today while changing her diaper, I noticed little red spots all over her trunk. Classic sign of roseola. A few days of high fevers then sudden full body rash. Just like Simon had when he was a baby.

At least now I know she’s recovering. High fevers can be scary but she knew she needed fluids so constantly asked to nurse at night and drank additional water throughout the day.
