Simon gets easily chapped skin on his cheeks but with proper daily moisturizing, it gets better quickly. Babies’ skin turns over so much faster than adults. Thank you to Auntie Joyce for bringing this outfit for Simon all the way from Singapore. CIA = Cutie In Action.
Crouching Tiger (Simon is year of the tiger afterall… haha)… Hidden Dragon. Simon is getting more stable and stronger everyday, he can do a controlled sit rather than plop quickly on his behind.
He loves us to read him books while he flips the pages.
Today we went to Oakland Chinatown to have lunch with my parents.
On the way there, I got Simon to do his new “trick”. Going “ah-ah-ah-ah” using his hand. One day he started mimicking me, so cute!
Simon did pretty well during lunch, wasn’t fussy and ate quite a bit. Apparently he liked this high chair as he tried to put his foot up to relax.
After lunch we went for a quick walk around the flower mart that was going on in the streets of chinatown. Simon let Grandpa Tam hold him while we walked around.
Then he suddenly wanted to switch to being held by Grandma Tam. Grandma took the opportunity to give him some kisses and make him smile, a bit ticklish probably.
It started to rain so we headed home. Simon had a good nap and woke up eager for dinner. I made him some whole wheat spaghetti with chicken and veggies.
He took the first few bites with a spoon then insisted on taking the spoon from me to play with and eating with his hands.
He was surprisingly able to eat a lot of it with his hands even though the noodles were pretty slippery. He is getting better with his pincer grasp. He didn’t finish the bowl, but maybe three-fourths.
After dinner, he had a little playtime. Who can resist those big eyes?
Excuse my bad singing but it made Simon laugh when I was singing “If you’re happy and you know it, stomp your feet”. I love his little giggle.
Simon has a cute Chinese silk outfit which he might wear for new year or else save for his birthday. We let him try the hat on for size, includes a pony tail.
Simon has expanded his repertoire of sounds. Instead of just da-da, now he says ba-ba and sometimes ra-ra, ma-ma, and la-la. Right now we think they’re just sounds but eventually they should be linked to objects or people.
I forgot to mention yesterday that I was treated to a bouquet of flowers! Ron surprised me with this little bouquet. It was made up of peonies and a very fragrant flower that I don’t know the name of.
Unfortunately the white ones seem to attract flies. They have a very sweet smell.
Simon had a very weird sleeping schedule today. He woke up at 6:30am and didn’t want to sleep after drinking his morning milk so Ron had to wake up and feed him breakfast. Then he wanted a snack at 10am. He had some red seedless grapes.
He didn’t want to sleep until almost 11:30 so only got about an hour nap before we went for Gymboree. He had his late lunch in the car in the parking lot.
Then he didn’t nap again until 3:45pm as we were driving and only for 10-15 minutes. He went for a nap again at 6:30pm and hasn’t woken up for dinner. He’s probably making up for the lost naptime today but still, it’s unusual how he went to bed so early. He didn’t even have dinner. We’ll see if he sleeps through the night.
Yesterday I had a bit of free time and did some baking. It’s been a while since I’ve made anything so wasn’t sure how it would turn out. I made this Red Velvet Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe that I found online. I brought part of the batch to work and they were gone by lunchtime.
They didn’t turn out as red as the pictures from the blog I got the recipe from. I maybe didn’t add enough coloring or added too much cocoa. The outside of the cookie ended up a bit crunchy so these would go good with a glass of milk or cup of coffee.
Another picture I have to add is one from dinner last night. Ron’s dad sent up the pictures from his camera, including one where Simon received a red envelope from the Grandma and Grandpa Chung which is going into his savings.
Only a few days until the start of the Year of the Rabbit.
So I have been a little behind in updating our blog this week but have just finished updating the past week. Not sure why I’ve been so tired but maybe due to Simon waking up earlier in the morning and needing comfort/entertainment. He used to wake up at 6am, drink some milk, then nap again until 7-7:30am. Today and the last few days, he’ll wake up at 6am and have this milk but then complain or start whimpering in bed and not want to sleep. So I’ll take him out of bed and try to entertain him but all he wants is to be held. If I try to put him down, he gets upset like this…
This morning he eventually settled down to have some breakfast. Today he tried Trader Joe’s freeze dried mangoes. They are the perfect size for little hands to hold and bite off chunks with his teeth.
We went for dinner with Ron’s family tonight and Simon surprised us with how much he ate. I packed him his dinner this morning and was almost afraid there wasn’t enough. His appetite came back with a vengeance. Shortly after we finished dinner and put Simon into his car seat, he fell asleep. He had a very full little tummy.
He was super konked out. He even let me manipulate his lips so I tried to take a photo of his new teeth.
It didn’t work out too well because of the lighting but he let me try a few times before closing his lips tightly. He was really tired. When we got home, he woke up for the walk from our car to home but after changing diaper and clothes, he went right back to bed. I put him in this cozy suit with hood since today is pretty cold.
Thank you Auntie Katherine and Cousin Chynna for this outfit, looks nice and cozy. It’s a great one piece suit with hood, long sleeves, and full length pants. Makes me wish I had an outfit like this to sleep in so that I wouldn’t need to use a blanket.
When Simon was about 6 months old, he had a little bit of interest in my book light (see here: Fascination with light) and he took interest again today.
