Singing KTV

March 30, 2011

Silly Simon playing with his neck pillow.

One of Simon’s birthday gifts was this cat piano that also includes a microphone. The piano has some songs and some background music as well. Ron taught Simon how to use the microphone.

Maybe he will be a future American Idol! Thank you to The Moons for this great gift!

Flipping pages

March 29, 2011

Simon’s belly is awfully round. After he eats, it gets even rounder, like a small basketball.

When we were visiting Singapore, our friends’ son amazed us by being able to flip pages of books that had pages made of regular paper. Simon was only able to open board books and flip pages of board books, he didn’t have the finger dexterity to be able to flip open pages of regular books or magazines. But it looks like he’s learning now, using his thumb to separate the pages.

Here he is experimenting with flipping open the cover.

Success with opening the cover! These are books we bought while in Singapore.

He’s getting more into pointing at objects and trying to talk or possibly to ask us what the object is. Our friends’ son points at items in his picture books to ask you to say what it is. Maybe Simon picked up that from him.

This is MY box of crackers!

March 28, 2011

On this chilly day, we decided to have hot pot at home for dinner so we went to the Japanese market on the way home to pick up some goodies. Simon spotted this box of crackers at the store and kept on calling out “cracker cracker” when he saw the box. So we let him carry it to the car.

He usually cries and protests by sitting down when we put him down to walk on the street but he was too happy about his box of crackers that he didn’t seem to mind on this day.

I love how he’s giving me this curious look like “did I do something wrong?”

Eating some edamame.

Using his foot to push open the car door, see his toes peeping out?

Hot pot was the perfect idea for dinner tonight. Warm bellies on cold evenings is always a good thing.

Celebrating Grandma Tam’s Birthday

March 27, 2011

Simon lounged around a lot today. His cold is probably catching up with him. He now has a really runny nose and cough.

After many cat naps, we made it out to dinner to celebrate Grandma Tam’s birthday a bit early. She bought him a lot of stuff from Hong Kong, including this tiger bib that has a scoop at the bottom to catch food. The good thing about this bib compared to the rubber ones is that this one is made from fabric and uses snaps to create the scoop so that the bib can be flattened. The fabric is waterproof though so you just have to wipe it clean. It worked out pretty well since the scoop can still maintain its shape.

Happy Birthday Grandma Tam!

Simon fell asleep in Grandpa Tam’s arms then took another nap on the car ride home. He was cranky when we got home then had a bath and whined himself to sleep. He’s been waking up periodically but since we are outside the room, he goes back to sleep.

So I have been busy bringing our blog up to date and I haven’t decided yet how often I’ll update from now on. I wanted to write a post and post at least one Simon photo each day until he turned 1. Now that he is 1 years old, I don’t know what to do. It’s become a habit for me to take a photo of him everyday and post date my posts if I get behind. Now I’ll have to figure out what to do from this day forward…

Dancing and Sorting Shapes

March 26, 2011

Simon likes playing with his new fire truck from Uncle Ken and Aunt Susan. When we got back from vacation, we finally opened up all his gifts so he has a bunch of new toys to play with.

Simon showed off his dancing skills today, this time while standing. He bends his knees a little and waves his arms around.

Then he also showed us he is learning to sort shapes. Ron helps him a little bit be he’s getting it.
