Headed to Asia

March 5, 2011

So we bought this travel bed for Simon, just in case we needed it for our trip. It has a self inflatable mattress and can be zipped closed to keep out bugs (and theoretically to keep him inside). We tested it out last night and he was sleeping in it for a while but after a few hours and rolling all around, we found him outside still clutching his Pooh. He moves a lot in his sleep. I don’t know how we will deal with that when we transition him to a real bed.

We spent the day packing and preparing for our trip before heading over to Ron’s parents’ house since Grandma Chung is coming with us and Grandpa Chung is giving us a ride to the airport. Grandpa had a little gift for Simon, the box is the perfect size for him.

Simon has some new shoes for the trip but he doesn’t know how to really walk with them on yet. Instead he wants to play with them. He has started raising both of his arms up and walking around. It’s pretty funny to watch as he is kind of unstable with both arms above his head.

We made it to the airport and waited around for our after-midnight flight.

We got preferential boarding since Simon is a baby and we also secured the seats where there is a bassinet that can be attached to the wall. It’s good to board early since all your carry-on luggage needs to be stowed above but it’s not good to board early because then you have a restless baby on your hands.

One Year Well Baby Visit

March 4, 2011

Today Simon has his one-year-old well baby visit.

Simon’s official numbers for this visit:

Weight = 24 lbs 2 oz (10.9 kg, 70th percentile)

Height = 29.75 inches (76 cm, 50th percentile)

Head circumference = 19.3 inches (49 cm, 98th percentile)

No wonder my arms have been aching, I can’t believe he’s so heavy already. Poor little man got some vaccines today and also some blood work done. They weren’t able to find a vein to get blood so they ended up pricking his finger and “milking” his finger for enough blood for two tubes of blood. Poor guy was screaming the whole time. I hope it didn’t really hurt that much and was just shocking. He got some acetaminophen before his vaccines so that should have helped with any pain but he did have a little bruise on his finger afterward.

Switch to cow’s milk

March 3, 2011

Simon has made the switch to cow’s milk. I hope his little tummy will be okay. Maybe it tastes funny?

Ahh…

We are going to wean him off the bottle soon too. He’s already been reduced to having a bottle only in the morning when he wakes up and right before bedtime. We’ve been using the Munchkin brand straw cups with one alteration. You need to use a lot of effort to get any liquid up the straw so Ron look a chopstick and poked it through the seal to make it more free. It only leaks slightly and very occasionally but makes it much easier for Simon to drink.

Simon’s First Birthday at San Francisco Zoo

Day 365 = ONE year! = March 2, 2011

HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY SIMON!!!

To start out the morning right, Simon had a healthy protein rich breakfast of scrambled eggs. At least, that’s what we hoped he would eat, he didn’t like them very much and only ate a few bites. He doesn’t seem to enjoy anything with a mushy or spongy texture.

But he’s still loving his strawberries.

Our little Superman is all dressed up for his birthday.

We decided to spend the day at the San Francisco Zoo. It happened to be free admission for San Francisco Residents today. Lucky us. It was a bit drizzly and cold but Simon was bundled up and wearing his ski hat.

His attention is focused on this giraffe having some lunch.

Simon and his pal Ziggy checked out some real zebras. The zebras are hiding out in the back underneath the trees because of the rain.

Simon found the penguins interesting. I found them a bit stinky.

We checked out the tigers that were let inside to warm up.

He wasn’t very interested in the peacocks roaming about.

We stopped for lunch at Lemur Cafe.

He was amused by me being on the other side of the glass window.

Daddy Ron’s blue sweatshirt acts as camouflage for Simon the peacock.

A photo opportunity during a break in the rain.

Simon very excited about the turtles.

Goodbye San Francisco Zoo! Thank you for a wonderful day!

Simon exhausted after a day at the zoo.

I can’t believe our little man is already one years old! We love you!

Let’s Limbo!

Day 364 = Marc 1, 2011

Simon is a very curious baby. He is fascinated by little things. In this case, daddy is putting together a tent for him to play in. Simon is very concentrated on what Ron is doing.

But sometimes he has that blank stare… makes me wonder what he’s thinking about.

Simon learned how to limbo today. Well, sort of, he learned how to go underneath things that are in his path. At first, he kept on running into Ron’s arm that was blocking his path and he would whine when he couldn’t get through but he figured out how to go under Ron’s arm to get to the other side.
