Monterey Bay Aquarium

August 6, 2011

We decided to take a short trip to Monterey to bring Simon to see the fish, turtles, penguins, etcetera. Simon had a nap and was all ready to run around the aquarium. Unfortunately it was really crowded and hard to see things without bumping into other people or people bumping into you. But he did get to do a few things like touch the abalone shell. He wanted to take it home with him!

Outside checking out the surge tank.

Then lunch at an outside restaurant (forgot the name) where we had fish and chips, lobster-shrimp sandwich roll, and chicken tenders with fries. Simon loved the dinosaur shaped chicken tenders. He even ignored the fries for the chicken.

After lunch, we went back inside the aquarium and to the kids play area. We brought him here before and he had fun except that he was smaller then so the other kids got in his way. Now he can climb the stairs by himself and even go down the slide all by himself. You can see him scooting himself down.

We left the aquarium around 4pm.

We went for a stroll on the trail then stopped by the Cannery Row Outlets. Inside, Simon had a ride on the EZ (Elmo Zoe) car.

Then relaxed in the green convertible with a puppy.

Next time we visit the aquarium will probably be on a weekday and not in the summer. Since we have a membership, we can visit anytime but it’s no fun when there are so many people there and you have to push and shove your way to see the animals.

Running Around Target

August 5, 2011

I used to always wonder about those kids who are running around stores… where are their parents? why aren’t they watching their kids? I guess after having kids, you realize you can’t keep them quiet all the time and you have to let them release their energy… hopefully in a safe way. Today Simon was a bit hyper and was running around Target… c’est la vie, what can you do?

In the evening, we went to Elephant Bar in Concord to celebrate Tim’s birthday. Simon was pretty bored and didn’t really want to eat. He finally calmed down a bit after we gave him this half an ear of corn to munch on.

Eating Korean Food

August 4, 2011

We went out to dinner at a Korean BBQ Plus! in Concord and Simon dug right in to the chap jae appetizer.

Delicious ban chan (side dishes).

Steaming hot kalbi.

Simon ate a lot of rice with some of the soup from the soon tofu jigae. We were pretty amazed that he didn’t mind the spiciness.

Then tasting some seaweed.

He ate quite a bit. He especially liked the rice mixed with the soup broth. Their tofu soup was the best thing we had. Their side dishes were delicious too and aplenty. Next door is their grocery store where we’ve bought the marinated meat and side dishes. We plan on going back again when we’re out that way (it’s on the way to Costco and where I fuel my NGV).

Happy 17 Months

August 2, 2011

Today Simon is 17 months old and weighs 27 lbs!

Cookie Monster Baby.

Simon checking out the door to the cat enclosure that Ron built. He put the litter box outside in hopes that the cats will use it there instead of inside of our downstairs bathroom. For now it’s a strange concept to them which will probably take a long time for them to get used to. There are also two separate areas where they can perch and watch the squirrels and birds in the backyard.
