Handcrafted by Simon

Saturday, November 30, 2013

I worked today and it was a pretty busy day. I had a great crew and no big issues but I was glad to come home to hang out with the kiddos. Simon worked on some arts and crafts and made this all by himself.

He traced his hand, cut out everything, drew on the face, and glued on stuff for decoration. He even cut in between the “feathers”. So cute!

Tonight I used the Yelp app to order food. Some restaurants have integrated online ordering with Eat24. We picked delivery from La Val’s. We ordered their Brazilian salad, Berkeley special pizza, and Rio calzone. It was a bit expensive, $55 for everything. We ordered the 12″ size pizza and calzone. Everything was just ok. It was delivered on time, the salad refreshing, and they didn’t skimp on the toppings. The crust was a little soggy/chewy. For the price, I kind of expected something special.

Good night Simon.

He’s still trying to master the art of “cheese”.

Preparing for Santa’s Visit on Christmas

Friday, November 29, 2013

We were reading the newspaper ads this morning and Simon got excited about all the toys. So I suggested that he cut out the pictures of some of the toys that he really, really liked and we could make a wish list and write to Santa. Last year, he was still a little young to understand how to write Santa a letter but he’s really excited to do it this year.

Ron and Simon went to get haircuts today and do a bit of Black Friday shopping. Here is Simon saying bye to me, sporting his new beanie.

Iris and I didn’t travel far from home today and enjoyed each others’ company for the day. She tried some new food combos today. For breakfast, carrots with apples.

I did go grocery shopping to make more variety of baby food for Iris. She’s still getting used to solids so has been having BMs only every 3-4 days so I stewed some prunes/dried plums for her mixed with some apple. She surprisingly liked then but it was super messy.

She also has some zucchini and broccoli to try that I finished making already. I also bought ingredients to make corn, peas, butternut squash, spinach, pears, carrots, and chicken with leeks. She also has fresh mangoes and new avocados to try. It is pretty easy to make baby food but takes up a lot of time. It’s worth it to see her expression when she tries new flavors. I think it’ll be more fun when she moves on to finger foods!

Thanksgiving 2013

Thursday, November 28, 2013

A day of indulgence, rest, and to be thankful for all the wonderful people in our lives.

We had a quiet morning at home before heading out to lunch at Tomi Sushi and Seafood Buffet in Concord. When we were there for Iris’ Red Egg party, we didn’t get to eat much so I was excited to try it again. There were way too many types of sushi rolls but I’m glad they were small pieces.

Simon tried a hand roll and surprisingly liked it.

Iris tried papaya for the first time but wasn’t that excited about it even though it was pretty sweet. It was a delicious treat by our nanny Annie and with full tummies, we had a nap before going into my parents’ house.

We just hung out and watched TV before dinner. Iris took a little time to warm up but was a happy baby overall.

Simon contently played with his new school bus from Grandma Tam and wore his new beanie.

Our delicious meal included prime rib, creamy lobster, turkey with stuffing, salad, sticky rice, and brussels sprouts with pancetta.

Yummy tiramisu for dessert.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I am so thankful to have such wonderful family and friends in my life. I probably don’t say it enough but “Thank you! Thank you!” It really means a lot to me to have such a great support system.

Baby Concentration

Simon’s lunch today of mini corn dogs, fries, cucumbers, carrots, pears, and a clementine. He loves these mini corn dogs but not the big ones. Probably because these are more his size.

Simon likes drinking lemonade now (the cup next to his foot). He went to Costco with Ron today and got the hot dog and drink combo. He used to hate it because he thought it too sour. But now he gets it as a special treat sometimes as long as it is sugar free or light.

It’s amazing what little thing babies can become fixated on. Tonight, Iris removed this cushion we were using to cover the back of her high chair. It’s part of Simon’s car seat that he no longer needs. Iris was really interested in the white label that was sewn on it. She kept on touching it, scratching it, pinching it, etc for at least 30 minutes.

Just a curious little girl.

Simon and Iris

Simon’s new favorite lunch: sushi. These are carrot, cucumber, and hot dog. The leftover fillings as sides plus some pears.

I was taking pictures of Iris this morning and Simon decided to join in the fun. He’s learning the art of photobombing.

Iris didn’t seem to mind at all. Thank you to Auntie Betty for the onesie!
