Simon’s Big Head

Day 278

Simon loves to feed himself. We always have to make sure his hands are clean before he sticks them in his mouth.

Yes, we did not change his clothes from yesterday. He went to bed without a bath or a change of clothes so was still wearing the same clothes this morning when I was feeding him breakfast.

He’s been having really itchy teeth so has been gnawing on his teething rings.

Uncle Henry and Auntie Betty came to visit Simon in the afternoon. Simon’s head is pretty big, he can almost fit into Uncle Henry’s hat.

Simon did something pretty amazing tonight. He stood up by himself for maybe 30 seconds… but only because he didn’t realize he was doing it. He pulled himself to standing on his toy bin shelf and he grabbed the blue disc with both hands and ended up just standing up on two feet. I tried to get Ron’s attention to turn on the video camera but without scaring Simon into sitting down… so he was only able to capture the end of the time he was standing up. Simon ended up bending his knees and activating the toy with his butt (when you press the yellow thing with eyes it activates the toy).

We tried to get Simon to do it again but he wouldn’t. I think he doesn’t feel safe so sits down right away when he realizes nothing is supporting him. It was pretty amazing to us though that he could stand by himself for more than 10 seconds.

Chicken Nuggets

Day 277

Just awoke and ready for breakfast. He’s leaning eagerly forward. I love his little teeth!

While Simon had a nap, I let Maxwell sit in my lap and scratched him behind the ears. Maxwell is 12 years old now, an old man in cat years. He’s still seems pretty healthy except maybe a bit skinny.

Simon had an hour nap before we went to Gymboree so he was a little more active and not so cranky. Right when we got there, he went straight for the whiffle balls. He likes them because they are easy to grab with his little fingers in the holes.

Today’s class was too crowded though so it was hard for me to get him to play with all the set-ups. His favorite of the day was still the crawl through the fabric tunnel. I put him down on one end then quickly went to the other side to entice him all the way in. He crawled way too fast to give me enough time to take a photo of him inside.

Tonight Simon had some chicken nuggets for dinner. We put them in the microwave, let them cool a little bit, and cut them into little chunks. He always goes for the new food right away but also had avocado and grapes for dinner.

It usually takes an hour for him to have a meal. I wonder if this is normal? We do a mixture of him letting him feed himself and also feeding him. I guess it’s better that he eats slower, it’s better for his digestion.

Long naps

Day 276

Simon had a long 3+ hour nap today. He’s been having long naps lately. Likely because he is teething. You can see the whites coming out on his upper gum. Those teeth are going to pop out soon!

Hammer in the air!

Apparently Simon likes watching Super Grover. Check out that grin.

Little drummer Simon.

All dressed up to come pick me up from work. Thank you Grandma Tam for my warm sweater.

Tonight was McD McRib and Chicken Nuggets night. Yum!

Happy Nine Months! – Eating Meatballs and Grapes

Day 275

Happy Nine Months Simon!

Ron found this Gymboree wire and blocks toy on Craigslist so we picked it up before Thanksgiving. It’s useful to have him practice standing up and practice his dexterity.

Simon had red seedless grapes for the first time today.

I cut them in small chunks so that he could grab them and could gum them. He seems to like them.

Simon also had meatballs (actually started last night) made by daddy using ground beef, basil, onions, and baby oatmeal (fortified with iron). They were a bit dry but Simon seemed to like them and just needed to drink some water while eating them or have some fruit along with it.

Yay! for new foods.

Nine Month Well Baby Visit

Day 274

Our spoils from our vacation. The Muppet Whatnot that we made at the FAO Workshop. Currently he is nameless, can you help us think of an appropriate name? He is wearing a black leather jacket (but clothes are interchangeable, apparently they fit 6-12 month old baby clothes).

We went to Nintendo World and bought Simon this Yoshi plush. We actually wanted to find him another Winnie the Pooh, in case it gets lost, but we haven’t been able to find one the same size. It was a gift so I have no idea where it came from. So we thought we’d try getting Simon attached to this one as well so that we can have a backup.

I finally got to eat my Crepe Cake from Lady M Confections this morning for breakfast. It was in our hotel refrigerator overnight then went with us all around NYC on our last day then in the airplane ride home. Surprisingly it held up pretty well taste-wise, except that it fell over. The crepes were much thinner than when we made it at home and the cream was lighter, more like whipped cream but still tasted like butter cream. We’ll have to try again using all-purpose flour and a different cream…

FAO Schweetz were kind of expensive but had a great collection of different flavor gummy bears (one of my favorite candies): mango, strawberry, apple, blueberry, pineapple, etc.

From Shake Shack, we got a great deal on these onesies. Original price was something like $18 each but one was the older style so was supposed to be only $6. The cashier actually charged us the wrong price on the new style so when we decided to buy the other style, we got the both for $6 each. I think they’re super cute.

Check out the back.

Simon had his 9-month old well baby visit today.

Here he is playing with the house in the waiting room.

Simon likes these blocks on wires toys.

Simon’s official numbers for this visit:

Weight = 21 lbs 3 oz (9.6 kg, 63rd percentile)

Height = 28 inches (71 cm, 43rd percentile)

Head circumference = 18.5 inches (47 cm, 91st percentile)

So he is continuing on the same curves for all measurements. He was a pretty good boy during the visit today. No shots today. His doctor gave us some tips on how to increase Simon’s iron intake, suggesting he can eat chicken nuggets and meatballs. So Ron will be preparing him some homemade meatballs and we’ll have to find some chicken nuggets with no trans fat.

Simon and Daddy playing with his new Whatnot. He seems excited about it so I hope it will be a good way to teach him some things by keeping him engaged.

Simon is getting stronger everyday. He can pull himself up from sitting and keep stable on his car. He used to push the car away from him and not be able to stand up all the way.

Simon officially turns nine months old tomorrow!
