First day back to work

Day 118

Today was the first day back to work for me. It was so hard to leave this morning since Simon was still awake when I left and wanting to play. I’ll admit I cried when giving him a kiss goodbye as I headed out the door.

Yesterday I baked this cake to say thank you for their well wishes and their gifts for Simon. The cake pan is from Williams-Sonoma, comes as a set of two for the top and bottom of the donut. I used the recipe on the back of the box and substituted whole wheat flour for all-purpose flour.

The cake was a hit especially the chocolate glaze.

Simon had a good day with daddy and I got to see pictures of him throughout the day on Facebook on my phone.

He’s wearing one of his Paul Frank outfits with his “Stud” bib, Ron called him a “Stud Monkey”.

And he changes into “Super Monkey”, just by moving the bib to his back… up, up, and away!

When I got home from work Simon was napping so didn’t get to play with him right away. He woke up around 7:30pm so that I could play with him for an hour or so before giving him a bath and putting him to bed.  Ron went out to the Giants vs Dodgers game (Unfortunately Giants lost 2-4) with friends so I had Simon all to myself in the evening.

It will be an early night for me as I am still figuring out my routine. Work itself wasn’t overly stressful but trying to figure out what’s changed in the last four months is a bit difficult. Plus I had sudden afternoon sleepiness and didn’t have the luxury of a nap so had to push myself through.

Simon’s First Hamburger

Day 117

Since it was such a beautiful day, we packed up Simon and went out for lunch.  What a hunk!

We went to Pearl’s Deluxe Burgers.  This is called “Phat Bob”.  Simon is amazed.

After lunch, we went to Union Square and Ron got the bright idea for this photograph.  Thank you to the folks who were clapping and whistling behind me to get Simon’s attention toward the camera.

There’s so much to do before I start work again tomorrow but I took a moment to take a new photo for my phone’s background so that I’ll have a smiling Simon looking at me whenever I take out my phone.

I know it will be so hard to leave tomorrow morning…

Visit to Mt. Tamalpais

Day 116

We visited Mt. Tam this afternoon for a friend’s birthday picnic.  It was cold and foggy in San Francisco but the vista point we were at on Mt. Tam was warm and sunny… but also a bit windy.  Simon was a little bit cranky while we were there so didn’t get a really good picture of him.

He may have been too warm but we can’t really know.  He surprised us by quieting down as we were packing up to leave, like he knew he was going home.  As you may be able to see, we’re at a point above the clouds.  A beautiful place to have a picnic!

Am I handsome?

Day 115

I finally had a chance to do Simon’s laundry so now he has a lot of new outfits.  He has almost outgrown his under 3 month size clothes so I thought I’d cycle in some more 3-6 month and 6-12 month size outfits.  It’s a good thing he has a lot of outfits since we don’t do laundry that often since we don’t have our own washer and dryer.

This is a gift from one of my relatives.  I love the built-in long sleeves as I’m always afraid his arms get too cold.  If he’s wearing short sleeves too long, his skin feels really cold to the touch.  The outfit is matched with Trumpette monkey socks.

Another reason I love the long sleeves is that it is easier for us to go take our evening walks.  Since it is cooler in the evenings, I usually put on a sweater for him but since I carry him in the Baby Bjorn, he gets hot easily so with the long sleeve outfits, no sweater needed so he is more comfortable.  I got him this hat on sale at Janie & Jack for only $5.99 (original price $25!) and it happens to match the color of his outfit.  I love matching things, I know it is kind of dorky but… if you know me, I’m sort of a dork, you should see my outfits!  He also has a whole new set of bibs that say things like: Lil’ Dude, Flirt, etc… including Handsome!

When we were out for a walk, there were too ladies who came up to me and said: Yes, he is handsome!  Then proceeded to touch his little hands…. now, what do you say to someone (nicely) to keep their hands to themselves?  Lately with the rise in whooping cough in California, it’s making me a little bit afraid that he could catch it but he is getting his next set of vaccines next week so at least that will offer a bit more protection.  I just spent the rest of our walk keeping his hands out of his mouth (he was sucking on his pacifier and then briefly fell asleep) and washed his hands when we got home.  I hope with going back to work that I won’t bring back germs that may get Simon sick.

Standing Up and Watching Television

Day 114

Simon has such a sweet smile, I love it!

IMG_0718.JPG

Although, doesn’t it look like he is plotting something?

Ron decided to test Simon’s leg muscles for standing up so propped him against the couch and he was able to stay up for a bit by leaning back.

IMG_0722.JPG

Unfortunately he got a little unstable and fell over to the side.  He probably cried out because his poor little foot was twisted and he couldn’t move it or get back up.

IMG_0726.JPG

So to reward him, Ron let Simon watch a little bit of television.  Simon can’t get enough television, he likes to watch it no matter what is on.  It must be the flashing lights and the sounds all in one.  He always turns his head toward the television no matter where we are in the room.  The only time he won’t watch it is when he is fussy.  Ron recorded a video of his excitement of watching television:
