Homemade Bread

Thursday, January 9, 2014

I pulled out my mini 1 lb breadmaker to bake some bread for Iris. She loves baby puff snacks so seems to like starches. She will choose puffs over eating rice or noodles so I thought she might like some fresh baked bread. I started with plain white bread.

“Hmm? What’s this?” (It’s some of the crust cut off into a small stick.)

“Let’s taste it…”

“Yum!” *happily sucking and gnawing*

It was a big hit not only with Iris, but also with Simon who enjoyed some for breakfast. By the end of the breakfast, half the loaf was gone and we finished off the rest for dinner. The loaf of bread is small so it’s good that we can have fresh bread that will only last 1-2 days and then we can try a new recipe. Not sure what will be next, maybe banana bread…

For lunch, Simon had mini hot dog buns, carrots, clementines, and some holiday gummy snacks (from Target’s after Christmas sale!).

Iris’ new favorite place is standing up and holding onto the side of her play bins.

Grin Day

Wednesday, January 8, 2014

One of Simon’s favorite lunches, mini salami sandwiches with cheese and Asian pears.

Today was a slow picture day, only two good ones of the kiddos with their little grins (and cute Tea Collection clothes).

Go Niners!

Tuesday, January 7, 2014

Back to making school lunches. I forgot to take a picture of yesterday’s but here is today’s. We bought these mini chicken tacos at Costco that Simon actually liked. He also surprisingly likes Romaine lettuce. He loves croutons and breadsticks. He also has some leftover chocolate Pocky sticks. His meal is finished off with clementines and raspberries.

After cleaning out some more boxes, I found this Niners hat that Simon insisted on wearing today. Go Niners!

Iris’ playspace has been rearranged a bit and she has Simon’s old toy cubby so that she can pick her own toys to play with. She has been trying to pull herself up lately but can’t quite do it on her own yet but her legs are pretty strong.

I feel safer with her crawling on the ground.

Babies end up in funny positions when sleeping.

Simon and Daddy had some fun this evening jumping with joy. Ready?

Go! Super blurry picture but there is genuine joy there!

Temescal Farmer’s Market and Sushi House Alameda

Morning “Hi!”

Today we were meeting up with friends at Temescal Farmer’s Market. Iris enjoyed being outside and Simon had fun hanging out with new friends.

He was especially happy with an ice cream treat. Blackberry ice cream sandwiched between two brownies. We cut it into four pieces to share. The kids got their own quarter and the parents shared one quarter for each couple. Tara’s Organic ice cream is right by my work but I’ve never had the opportunity to drop in for a treat. It was really delicious so next time I walk by, I just might need to grab a scoop.

We ended up in Alameda for lunch at Sushi House. Simon has been off from school so misses playing with other kids. He was really happy to hang out with Maddie and her parents.

Iris is at the point that she can sit in a high chair at restaurants which makes it much easier on me when feeding her. She used to have to sit in my lap or else we would have to prop up the car seat.

Lunch was good. It was really busy though so service was a bit spotty. Everything tasted great and the kids were entertaining each other so it wasn’t too bad. This is their Oyster Euphoria roll. The oysters are fried and the roll is wrapped in a soy (?) wrapper.

Good to bed home though.

After being out for most of the day, poor Iris has chapped cheeks.
