Last Day of School Before Winter Break

Friday, December 20, 2013

Last night Simon and I went to Safeway and he really wanted these mini slices of sourdough bread. He had some for dinner and wanted them again for lunch today. So mini salami and cheese sandwiches with clementines and raspberries. I wonder if I can bake bread like this at home? Anyone ever done this?

Today was the last day of the term and school will be closed for the next two weeks. Simon has been working on his cards all week so now it was time to give them to his teachers. Here are the front of the cards.

Here are the backsides. He did the majority of them himself like the cutting, gluing, sticking, and designing. I only helped him with writing letters S, M, and N.

Plus a small gift to go with the cards. An oversize mug with Hello Kitty hot cocoa, tea bags, and an assortment of chocolates.

I put together these fruity candy canes with a pencil for Simon to give to his classmates.

Simon made a snowflake decoration at school today.

Since it was the last day of school, Simon got to stay up later than usual and watch a movie. This makes for an exhausted Daddy. Simon shows no sign of exhaustion.

Iris was a bit fussy during the day according to Annie but was all smiles in the evening.
So Simon is off for the next two weeks and I haven’t planned anything for him yet in regards to activities. Lucky for me that I am also off except for Thursdays and Fridays for the next two weeks. I think I’m done with Christmas gift shopping but still haven’t finished unpacking/cleaning. Seriously seems like unpacking never ends!

Plus there’s still wrapping the presents and preparing for Santa… maybe get a tree, hanging our stockings, making cookies for Santa, etc…. I love the holidays but it’s a lot of work!

School Celebration

Thursday, December 19, 2013

Today at Simon’s school, they were having a celebration and all families were invited to attend the musical performance, playing at the park, and for a picnic lunch before their naptime. I packed quesadillas, pears, apples, raspberries, and strawberries for our lunch.

The kids sang and performed seven songs in Mandarin. It was so fun for me to watch and see that Simon was so happy. I recorded most of the performance on my phone but haven’t had time to upload it yet.

Afterwards, everyone walked to the mini park right near the school for some playtime. Playing in the sand is one of Simon’s favorite outdoor activities.

Then walking back with friends to use the restroom, wash hands, and retrieve lunch for the picnic.

Simon’s favorite way to eat raspberries.

Simon was sad when I had to leave and go to work. He didn’t want to stay for nap and wanted to come with me. He said he could be patient and wait at my work until work was over. But I had to leave and he cried which made me sad but it was a wonderful morning at school.

Iris had a much better day with her cold. She was still congested and her nose started running again in the evening. But no fever and less fussy so I think she’s on the road to recovery.

Hello Kitty Bear Spirit

Wednesday, December 18, 2013

Little Iris is a bit of a bed hog. She usually ends up kicking me so she can stretch out. But she’s too cute to move and disturb.

DIY Lunchables. Surprisingly, Simon likes salami. He usually says things with too much pepper or spices aren’t good but he likes salami. He also had some delicious strawberries and raspberries.

Go Bears!

Simon going to bed. We were very strict with Simon always sleeping in his own bed so he has not complained much about sleeping by himself except for a short time when he was about 1.5 years old. It’s harder with Iris since I don’t want her crying to wake up Simon. It would be a very difficult morning with two sleep deprived kids. But I know we’ll have to work through it somehow, I just haven’t figured out how yet.
This evening, Iris was sneezing and had a runny nose. After bath, she went to sleep fine but woke up an hour later all stuffed up with mucus running out of her nose. She was very unhappy and wouldn’t calm down. We cleared her nose but that made her more angry so Ron ended up driving her around in the car to calm her and let her rest a bit. Definitely not a good time for sleep training.

Happy Grin

Tuesday, December 17, 2013

Dinosaur chicken nuggets, mini corn dogs, a clementine, apples, carrots, and two OREO cookies.

Big happy grin when Simon and I arrived home.

Simon enjoying popcorn.
I don’t know why Simon likes to wear tank tops lately. I’m always afraid he will be cold but he says he never is cold. Maybe he’s growing and his metabolism is up?

Holiday Crafts

Monday, December 16, 2013

Monday lunch of pizza rolls, carrots, clementines, and apple fries.

At school, these lovely “trees” were all around the classroom. Creative and pretty neat.

At home, I had Simon start on his holiday cards for the teachers. He colored some snowmen and snowflakes before cutting them out. Then glued them into cardstock and used foam alphabet stickers to spell the teachers’ names and wrote his own name. It’s a lot of work so will take him a few days but I’ll take a picture of the finished products.

Mommy’s little cupcake. Love those kissable cheeks!
