Tilden Park Steam Trains

Saturday, June 1, 2013

Daddy took Simon to Tilden park today to visit the animals at the Little Farm and then to take a train ride. At the steam trains, they were having a 61st anniversary meet-up so had at least four trains running all day. They are there on Sunday too if you want to swing by. This is Simon’s “cheese” although he hasn’t quite mastered looking at the camera while smiling.

Mommy and Iris stayed home. While Iris was napping, I cleaned up our baby bath so Iris could have her first bath at home. We haven’t had a chance to bathe her because it was so cold before but with the weather warming up, we thought it would be a good time to try. She had a puzzled expression when she first touched the water but didn’t seem to mind the rest of the bath. Here she is being dried off with her Hello Kitty hooded towel.

Now her hair is feather soft and she smells like my favorite Mustela brand body wash and shampoo. Her skin is still peeling but we will just have to wait it out. She was immersed in water for 9 months and now being exposed to air, everything is drying out. The doctor says she should lose about three layers of her skin in the next few weeks then to use moisturizers and such after that.

Just Like Mommy

Our parents think that Iris’ lips are very similar to mine. What do you think?

She also has double eyelids (some days they “go away” like mine). It’s more visible in her left eye than her right. She seems to still be a bit puffy on her right eye so the double eyelid gets hidden.

Simon doesn’t like to smile for pictures these days. He now does this pucker face thing and says “choooo”! (Instead of saying “cheese”!) These days, Simon and I usually only get to spend time together when Iris is napping. After dinner tonight, we sat together and watched TMNT and took this picture. I love my little man 🙂

Ike’s

Wednesday, May 29, 2013

Iris cried in her sleep yesterday but after a good night’s rest, she started to smile in her sleep this morning.

Iris had her 2 week checkup this morning and has gained 8 oz. We are thankful that we don’t need to worry about her gaining weight. Her next checkup will be when she is two months old and will need vaccinations at that time.

Late afternoon nap on the sofa next to mommy.

Today I had a break from my confinement diet and had a sandwich from Ike’s in Walnut Creek. Pretty delicious. The Dutch crunch bread was the best. Maybe a little too much sauce for me as it was a bit messy to eat.

Since it’s better for my health to take the confinement diet, my carbohydrate wish list has mostly been put on hold until the month is over. But while in the hospital, my SIL brought me some goodies that I can check off the list: Beard Papa strawberry filled cream puffs, Nacho Cheese Doritos, Snickers, and Oreos. All were yummy. She also brought me a passion fruit macaron from La Boulange for Mother’s Day. (Thank you BL!) One of my hospital meals included a bagel but that one might warrant a do-over since it was not that yummy. So far at home I’ve also had sashimi and now an Ike’s sandwich! So far, completed #3, 6, 11, 12, 13, 15, 20 and 21. Eight out of 25 isn’t too shabby. Most of the rest will have to wait until at least after confinement or until I complete my 2 hour glucose tolerance test in 4 weeks.

Ohayou!

Tuesday, May 28, 2013

Iris says “Ohayou!” (“Good morning” in Japanese.) In this case: “Oh Hi… Yo!” I originally bought this onesie for Simon but by the time I remembered where I put it, he had already outgrown it. I’m glad at least Iris gets to wear it now.

Simon enjoying his chocolate frozen yogurt with mochi and pearls. Special treat from daddy today after lunch. I am looking forward to having a big bowl after my confinement. Right now, it’s too “cold” and not good for me.

Today we had a short visit from the Chung grandparents and afterwards, Iris had a hard time sleeping comfortably. I think she was overstimulated with different voices and loud talking. She was tired as her eyes kept on closing and it seemed like she would sleep for a few minutes but she would startle herself awake and cry out in her sleep. She stayed up about 4 hours and she was finally able to fall into deep sleep after some nursing and cuddling. It took some time because she kept on opening her eyes slightly to make sure one of us was still nearby. When she finally falls asleep, she looks so comfortable.

Tomorrow she has a checkup so I anticipate her to be a little fussy tomorrow afternoon too. Poor babies, can’t handle too much stimulus. Might be time to introduce a pacifier to comfort her in times like these.

Baby Acne

Monday, May 27, 2013

Iris’ baby acne has really flared up today. It’s normal and supposedly doesn’t bother babies but I still feel bad for them. It looks like it could be pretty irritating especially since it’s all around her forehead, eyes, and nose. I hope it clears up soon.
