Eating out with family

Day 61 (Happy 2-month old birthday!)

We celebrated Mother’s Day early with dim sum in the morning with my family and then dinner at House of Prime Rib with Ron’s family.

Here is Simon all ready to start the day.

After dim sum, we went back to my parents’ house to hang out.  The dogs were happy to see us (Buddy on the left, Happy on the right).

Dinner was at House of Prime Rib.  We had a lovely (and filling) dinner complemented by a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon from Neal Vineyards in Napa Valley.  Simon had been sleeping before we went out to dinner and continued to sleep through dinner until we got home, almost 5 hours total.  We were all impressed he could sleep through the noise in the restaurant.

Did they get new plates?  For some reason I don’t remember the plates being red.

For the first time we actually had room for dessert at HOPR.  We ordered the creme brulee and the English trifle to share.  The creme brulee was excellent, very creamy and nice sugary crust.  The English trifle had blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and a delicious Grand Marnier anglaise.  The fruits tasted very fresh and juicy.

We were really stuffed and really relieved that Simon survived such a busy day without a complete meltdown.

Puppy Pals

Day 46

Simon slept this morning with his puppy pal playmate.  My co-worker Monica bought this for him when she visited last weekend.  It’s soft and cozy so a comfortable place for him to sleep.

This beautiful Saturday afternoon we decided to drive down to Pacifica to have some ribs at Gorilla BBQ.  On our first visit, we showed up too late and they sold out of ribs.  They open at 12pm and close when there’s no more food.  So today we got there around 12:15pm and were able to score ourselves a rack of pork ribs.  Yum yum, look at that nice smoky bark on the outside.

As I mentioned before, Simon is smiling a lot more now and we’ve been trying to capture some of his different smiles on camera.  So adorable!

More puppy pals.  Carter’s has a cute line of puppy clothes and we’ve gotten quite a few different outfits.  Here’s one of the tops which Ron says reminds him of a kung fu shirt.  It has cute pants to go along with it but we didn’t bother with putting them on since we were just at home.

This is Simon sleeping… with his left hand in the air.  “Teacher, teacher, I have a question!”  A good sign?

Kitties steal the show

Day 39

Grandpa Chung came to visit Simon this morning and brought us lots of fresh vegetables and fruits.  I’ve been craving some fresh fruit since we haven’t had time to go out yet for groceries.

Breakfast at home and Lunch at Epic Roasthouse

I had a lovely breakfast this morning prepared by RC. He used these cute egg molds that we bought at Disney World many years ago.

In the late morning we went to the Ferry Plaza to walk around the Farmers Market before meeting up with our friends Susan & Ken for lunch. We wanted to catch up and to thank them for planning our baby shower a few weeks ago. We had lunch at Epic Roasthouse.

It was a lovely day and we had a seat near the windows. I read that this restaurant has great happy hour so I look forward to being able to enjoy that sometime as well.

I started with the lavender lemonade with green tea. The lavender flavor is obvious but the lemon and green tea is not. It was refreshing though.

Ron ordered from their “Hangover Libations”, this is called “Orange”. It tasted like a mimosa except that it had a bit of bitters.

At the table they offered three types of salt: pink, sea salt, black salt. We taste tested them all and I personally liked the black salt.

Their bread selection included a puff (cheese I think), cornbread-like madeleines, and a airy but chewy bread.

They had a few changes to the menu so I ordered one of their specials, the lobster quiche which was topped with potatoes and a small salad and a sauce of caviar creme fraiche. There were only a few pieces of lobster but the flavor of the quiche was good, I like the pastry and the freshness of the salad.

Ron had the steak enchiladas (one of the lunch items). I thought the wrapping was a bit too thick and the meat not seasoned enough but then I only had one bite.

We also tried their side of onion rings with the housemade ketchup (with anchovies). It was yummy.

I had a lovely day of eating then a massage at Burke Williams in the evening. This was my fourth pregnancy massage, I still have two more to use before baby is born. I look forward to taking my maternity leave in a week and a half and having some more time to prepare but also relax.

Burger Bar San Francisco – Build Your Own Burger

Now on my second visit to Burger Bar San Francisco I decided to build my own burger. I wanted to try the buffalo meat patty since I’ve heard that it’s very moist and does not have a gamey taste like you would think.

So I chose a buffalo meat patty on a whole wheat bun topped with grilled bell peppers (yellow and red) and peppered jack cheese.

I agree the buffalo meat is moist but not oily and this was cooked medium. The burger alone was $16.50 plus it is extra for each additional topping. So perhaps a bit on the higher priced side but you can’t beat the view from the the 6th floor of Macy’s.

Thank you K for treating me dinner!
