I’m cool

Day 75

Continuing with the cute outfits.  We got this hat and sunglasses combo from H&M.  The SF stores on Powell Street and in the Westfield Shopping Center have baby and kids clothes.

“I’m too cool for school” (Not really, we’re still going to make him go to school).

“Yo, what you lookin’ at?”

“I’m cool, I’m cool”

I’m finding that baby boys do have cute clothes.  I used to think only baby girls had really cute clothes.   If any moms out there like Hello Kitty, Macy’s has Hello Kitty and Chococat clothes now.  I wish they would have Pochacco and Kerokerokeroppi clothes for boys but I guess they’re not popular enough.

Tuxedo Simon

Day 74

We think that Simon is starting to recognize the camera and possibly our iPhones.  When we try to take a picture, Simon looks at the lens and usually smiles and will track the camera in our hand.  Apparently he likes having his picture taken.  He probably knows he is too cute to resist and wants to make sure he looks good in the photo.  Here he is posing while having tummy time.  Couldn’t you imagine this as a pose for one of those Asian photography studios?

As you probably already saw on Ron’s Facebook page, Simon attended his first wedding banquet.  I wasn’t sure how babies are supposed to dress at weddings since adults usually wear suits and dresses.  Then I came across this while shopping online at Gilt, a bib with a tuxedo design.  It worked out really well, it made him look dressed up even though he was only wearing a white cotton onesie with dark gray cotton pants and his Trumpette socks that look like shoes.

Here he is sitting on daddy’s knee.

Family portrait.  Simon is yawning as he was getting tired and getting ready to fall asleep.  We are having dinner at Legendary Palace.  We decided to only attend the reception since we were afraid that Simon would get fussy at the ceremony and ruin it.  I know it would make me upset to hear a baby crying in the background while I’m saying my vows so didn’t want to put our friends through that.

It’s the first time that we’ve had to dress up ourselves.  I found it hard finding something to wear that didn’t make me feel fat!  Hopefully this will motivate me to work harder to lose this weight.  Although I’m happy to say that my feet are no longer swollen so I can fit into all of my shoes!  It would have been nice to go buy a whole new set of shoes but it’s also nice to wear the shoes that I love.  If you know me, I love my shoes, it’s almost an obsession.

Simon milestone for the day: Last night he slept for 6 hours continuously.  We were super impressed.  He woke up not too cranky wanting to eat but also couldn’t really fall back asleep that easily.  He probably tired himself out by staying awake in the late afternoon while we were on our walk.  He usually naps 2 hours but probably only napped 45 minutes.  We hope he’s getting into a pattern but we’ve been wrong before.

Skechers Shape-ups and Sushi Rika

Day 73

This afternoon I went for a walk with Simon in my new Skechers Shape-ups.  I’m not sure if the shoes are just a gimmick but I figured it doesn’t hurt to try them out.  The only thing is probably hurts is your wallet as the shoes are about $100.  I took a break in Union Square before heading home and once I got up I could feel a little soreness in my calves and thighs so perhaps they really are doing something.  It’s an interesting feeling walking with these shoes, it’s a bit awkward at first since it is kind of sponge-like.  They are supposed to simulate walking on sand which is thought to take more effort and it also takes more effort to keep your balance on these shoes.

I hope wearing these will improve my posture and help me lose a few more pounds.  It was really easy to shed about 80% of my pregnancy weight but these last 20% (~6 lbs) is still taking some work.  I need to find some more time to do some actual working-out.

Plus I probably should go back to a higher protein, lower carbohydrate diet.  Although we didn’t follow that when we went for dinner at Sushi Rika tonight.  I have missed sushi because of the rice and the raw fish.  The restaurant is very close to where we live and I bought a Groupon a few weeks ago for $20 for $40 worth of food so we thought we’d finally try it tonight since neither of us felt like cooking.

Without realizing it, the specialty rolls we ordered were all fried.  My bad.  Next time I want to try their sashimi over rice dish.  But for tonight, the rolls were delicious although the fish was probably a bit masked by all the sauces on the rolls.

Jumping Tail Roll.  A little sweet, a little spicy and with a nice little salad in the middle.

Dynamite Roll.  The asparagus was quite refreshing.

India Express.  There was a bit of curry powder mixed in somewhere, a bit light but nice.  Nice presentation.

We also ordered the hamachi kama appetizer, always a favorite of ours.

Overall, our tummies were satisfied.  The size of the rolls were good for the price (~$10 per roll).  They also have Happy Hour everyday from 5-8pm on beer and hot sake.  Unfortunately we didn’t get the happy hour special because it was one of the restrictions for the Groupon so we paid full price for a bottle of sake.  Since all these rolls were cooked, I would be interested to see how their raw fish dishes taste.  Even though it is so close by, I’m not sure when we will be back since the service was kind of spotty.  This was actually our second attempt to eat here since when we tried a few weeks back, there was a bunch of people waiting although there were empty tables that just needed to be cleaned.  At that time they told us the wait was still going to be an hour so we decided to leave.  During this visit, we felt like they were trying to get rid of us as soon as possible after we finished eating.  Maybe they were unhappy we were using a Groupon?  Even so, they shouldn’t act any different than if we were regular customers.  Why else sign up with Groupon?

Blowing bubbles

Day 72

Now Simon likes to blow bubbles with his saliva.  It’s kind of cute although sometimes he drools.  I always thought the drooling started with teething but I guess I was wrong.

More tummy time and another outfit change.  Simon’s schedule must be a bit out of sorts since he has been pooping at different times than normal and more frequently which required multiple outfit changes today since it leaked.  We recently changed to back to Pampers (from Huggies) which have been better for his sensitive skin (he hasn’t had any diaper rash since we switched) but seem to be a bit easier to leak through if not properly secured.  Not sure what we’re going to do when this box of diapers runs out.  Keep Pampers or back to Huggies?

Also, now we have a new issue.  During our vacation and since our return home, Simon has been very fussy with feedings.  He refuses to breastfeed unless I trick him first by giving him a pacifier or bottle then remove it and put him to my breast.  Most of the time the trick works the first time but there are times when I have to try a few times or let him drink about 10ml from the bottle first.  He can get really upset and fussy.  I called the Kaiser SF Lactation Center again and they advised me that it probably is just a phase since when we were on vacation, we fed him with the bottle so he was out of practice.  She said breastfeeding is a skill and he probably is just out of practice.  So now it’s back to full time breastfeeding until he gets back into the habit.  I have read that breastfeeding could be difficult but didn’t realize how difficult until I’ve experienced it.
