Playing with his balls

Day 167

Dirty mind. What were you thinking? Simon is playing with golf balls!

Uncle William gave these to us last night so that Simon could play with them. Since he seemed to really like those round pieces of fruit, he thought Simon would like golf balls and they’re not perishable.

Simon’s legs are getting stronger by using this jumper to exercise. It will play music when he moves, it stays quiet when he just stands there.

Simon practicing his professional photo pose. Looks a bit serious doesn’t he?

Now not so serious here. A good way to practice his stomach muscles though when he wants to get up. Assisted stomach crunches.

Another of Ron’s ways of keeping Simon occupied with his toys. Biggie Pooh to prevent Simon from toppling forward and the Boppy to prevent him from hitting the back of his head then all his toys in front of him so that they’ll stay there rather than being tossed around.

Lately Ron and Simon have been coming to pick me up after work. Usually Simon has had an exhausting day so is asleep in his car seat. I love his little chubby hand and fat wobbly cheeks. I tried to open his little fingers but his hands were clenched tight. I wonder what’s so stressful in his sleep that he can’t relax?

Here is Simon exercising his voice, talking to “da-da”.

I wonder when “ma-ma” will come…

Simon and Simon

Day 166

Today we went out for dinner for Grandma Chung’s birthday. We wanted to try something new so I found Wasiiki Peruvian Restaurant in San Mateo. Yesterday, I was able to easily book a table for 9 adults on Opentable.

We got Simon dressed up for the outing. His OOTD is a Tigger tank top that says “Hug Me” and Paul Frank pants.

Simon hadn’t slept much during the day so was exhausted by the time we put him in the car to drive over to the restaurant. Auntie Betty gave Simon a new toy! Simon the Chipmunk!

For dinner, we had the chicken, shrimp, and beef skewers. Unfortunately they were out of the beef heart skewers, apparently delicious so sold out. Check out the big piece of corn at the top, kind of starchy but in a good way.

These are sliced potatoes with a creamy sauce and some sort of olive drizzle. Simple but good.

The ceviche, what a huge portion! We ordered two nonetheless. Had a really good tangy taste and very fresh seafood.

I had the pescado a lo macho, a white fish fried (I think) with shrimp, calamari, clams, and mussels with a little bit spicy and creamy sauce. Served with a bowl of rice. It was yummy but I was so full from the appetizers already so took half of it home.

This is the seco. Highly recommended by most Yelpers. A braised short rib with cilantro sauce. The sauce was delicious but the piece of meat I tried was a bit dry. There were only two portions of this left so the table shared one portion and Grandma Chung had her own.

Ron had the half rotisserie chicken with salad and fries. You better be really hungry to order this because it is large half of a large chicken.

Everyone else ordered the two steaks on the menu and they all seemed to enjoy it, especially the one with the fried egg on top. It was a quiet night there it seems, only two other groups of patrons were there while we were there. The food is good though and unique so I think we will probably be back. I can still taste that delicious ceviche…

After dinner we went back to the house and had cake. A green tea mousse with red beans. Yum.

Uncle Henry being silly… Simon paying him no mind.

Simon had a fun time playing with some apple pears from the backyard. They were all on a plate and he was trying to pick them up or scoop them into his lap. Perfect size for his little hands but not small enough to fit into his mouth.

Ron trying to teach Simon a new trick… to hold his bottle with his hands AND his feet… little flexible monkey he is.

Simon was out way past his bedtime and didn’t want to eat his dinner while we were having dinner so he’ll probably take a day or two to readjust to his regular schedule. It’s amazing how little things can affect him so easily.

Relaxing at home

Day 165

It feels like we’ve been really busy recently so we wanted to spend the day at home in San Francisco. Simon is sitting on my lap wearing his OOTD. He is almost growing out of these CAL onesies.

We went for a walk to the SF Ferry Plaza Farmer’s Market and picked up some fruits and veggies to make Simon some food. We had been using jarred baby food that we got from my coworker Zoe but I thought I’d try my hand in making my own now. We picked up some yellow squash, white corn, an avocado, and some peaches. I will let you know how that goes.

Here is Simon relaxing at home with Biggie Pooh.

Simon has been giggling quite a bit recently. In this video, he is laughing at Ron while Ron is making funny noises and faces at him. Simon thinks Ron is quite the comedian.

Although I think this may have overstimulated him as he could not fall asleep at bedtime. He took a one hour nap then did not want to go back to sleep. Instead, he wanted to play but only things that didn’t involve too much movement. We propped him on the sofa and let him play with his xylophone. He likes to bang on the keys and likes it when we also play with him at the same time.

Eventually he did get tired again and is back asleep.

Dog barking = Simon laughing

Day 164

Simon enjoys looking at bright colors. Ron bought this ABC toy which is a caterpillar with each foot being a letter of the alphabet. Simon enjoys banging on it but not sure if he understands much of it when it is talking to him.

Simon’s OOTD. Green polo with overalls.

So after work today, we dropped by my co-worker Julie’s place because our pharmacy team has a twice monthly study session and tonight was the night. We haven’t had a chance to introduce Simon to most of them yet so I thought this would be a good opportunity. Tonight they were studying pain management but I just didn’t have the energy to attend the session. Anyhow, Julie had a dog named “la mei” (= spice girl) who she adopted a while back. She had been abused in the past so can get a bit anxious and start barking. She especially dislikes men, and even dislikes them more when they are either wearing a hat or hoodie. She seemed to dislike Ron, possibly because she is from Taiwan and he reminds her of her past abuse… so she would bark at him. I thought Simon would be scared of her bark but quite the opposite, it would make him burst out into giggles. It was quite random but funny.

Yay for the weekend!

From Singapore with love…

Day 163

We had a busy evening planned to meet up with our friend Joyce from Singapore. So Simon had to have a hearty meal in the afternoon.

What? No more?

Simon’s OOTD (Cutest Dude!)

Joyce came over after I got home from work so that we could all go out to dinner.

She mentioned that she had a craving for Mexican food and couldn’t get enough since she’s been visiting. Singapore doesn’t really have any good Mexican restaurants. The only decent place was called Margarita’s but they didn’t serve the type of burritos that you eat while holding, they are more like enchiladas with sauce and cheese on top. So anyways, Ron found this place on Yelp called El Farolito which is rated 4.5 stars (out of 5) with >1300 reviews so we were thinking with that many reviews and still such a high rating, it must be good. Plus it’s in the Mission which is known for great Mexican food.

I would say we weren’t disappointed, I had a carnitas super burrito and Joyce had a chicken quesadilla.

Ron ordered a carnitas torta (a sandwich) which was also excellent. Plus it was pretty cheap. We got there around 6:30pm and there was a short long line, by the time we left around 7:30pm, there was a line out the door.

It was good catching up with Joyce. Just like old times when Ron and I were living in Singapore. She also came bearing gifts from my former co-worker in Singapore.

Thank you Suanty, Soon Yee, and Samuel for the custom made pillow for Simon and the turtle shape sorter toy (plus other toys and clothes). (The pillow is above his head and he is grabbing onto the toys from the shape sorter.) Joyce also got Simon some gifts (including Hello Kitty socks! hehe, they’re blue) which we will surely take pictures of sometime soon.
