I love mangoes!

Day 212

Simon checking in from Grandma and Grandpa Chung’s place.

Well rested after a 2 1/2 hour nap. Ron said Simon seemed to have slept a lot today and wasn’t really in the mood to drink or eat. We think maybe he is growing? Babies need more sleep to grow, right?

But tonight he ate dinner when I fed him. This was his first taste of mangoes and at first bite, he wasn’t so sure but then started to open his mouth eagerly to eat. Yet I still managed to get it all over his face as he kept on moving all over the place getting distracted by the cats and various sounds outside.

Simon has gone back to sleeping through the night, 9-10 hours, since the weather is cooler now. It still amazes us each day he manages to sleep all night. I wake up around 6:30am and I hear him starting to rustle around but he will soothe himself usually for another 15-30 minutes before he gets too hungry and wakes himself up. I wonder how he’ll do when we’re on vacation with the time difference.

Looking good in my orange shorts

Day 211

Do I look cute in my orange shorts and wife-beater tank?

Practicing my flying pose.

Simon prefers to stand up even though he can’t do it by himself yet. I hope we’re not giving him a false sense that he is able to walk on his own since we always support him so he won’t fall and hurt himself. Here he is using Ron’s arm as a support so that he can stand and play with his toys.

When he stands without us, it is usually him leaning against something. Here he is leaning against his activity table. But if he tries to move his legs, he will topple over since he is only be supported by his stomach against the table and the friction of the legs on the floor keeping the table from moving.

Simon is starting to like rattles more, shaking them all about. Here is his set of “keys” but he has another rattle which he really likes that he will try to crawl toward.

Apparently Simon tried to stand up in his bassinet so Ron had to remove it to let Simon sleep at the bottom of the Pack’n’Play. This seems like it will be killer for my back as I lean down to put him to bed, especially since he is so heavy. But what can you do? It’s safer for him to sleep on the bottom so that he won’t try to crawl out and fall and hurt himself.

Simon looks so funny in this picture to me. It’s like his bottle is a crown or a sword and he’s declaring that he is the king… yet sticking out his tongue and has droplets of milk in his hair.

Another rattle he likes… especially to chew on. His teeth are starting to come out more so are probably “itching” him.

Nom Nom!

As daddy likes to put it: Simon playing with his balls.

Hairstyle like daddy

Day 210

Simon had a crazy hairstyle when he woke up this morning. Kind of like daddy’s crazy hair, a bit curly and wavy. Simon’s hair is still very fine though and I hope it doesn’t get too coarse. I think his hair color is more like mine, more brownish than black.

Apparently Simon was a bit of a fussy baby today and didn’t want to nap. He even went to the baby gym again today and used up a lot of energy but couldn’t settle down to sleep.

Here he looks like he wants to go to sleep but instead he sees Ron and tries to move toward him. Simon hasn’t really figured out the coordination for crawling yet but he can move himself forward kind of like a inchworm.

Today Ron and Simon didn’t actually get to attend the baby gym class because the owner told him the wrong time so again they played with the equipment and will attend the class on Friday instead. At least they have been letting Simon play for free during these open gym sessions so we’ll see how he likes the class to see which gym we’ll participate in.

Day at the gym

Day 209

My nerdy little boy, cute in his striped shirt.

But shortly after he got him shirt all wet while trying to drink from his straw cup. He just really wanted to show off his muscular arms.

Well, maybe more like chubby arms, you can see another crease forming on his forearm.

Today Simon went to a baby gym to play during the “open gym” hour.

He didn’t seem to enjoy the pool of plastic balls.

Ron and Simon will go back another day to try out an actual class and see if it is different and/or better than Gymboree.

Old Town Cafe

Day 208

We went to visit my parents and have lunch together at Old Town Cafe in Dublin for some Singaporean food. Simon had a little nap in the car, he’s giving me the finger…

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Singaporean food. Delicious and almost like the real deal. This is tahu goreng (fried tofu with peanut sauce and cucumbers with added jicama which was yummy).

This is roti prata with accompanying curry sauce. Fresh and piping hot!

Hainanese chicken with rice. The chicken was really tender and the hot sauce was oh so good.

Beef rendang. The meat was very tender and the sauce yummy, very thick and creamy.

Sambal kang kong. Almost like the way we remember it, just not as spicy.

I forgot to take a picture of the laksa noodles before we dug into it. The noodles were a bit soft and we told one of the staff and he said he would be sure to check on it since he says it is supposed to be more al dente. Next time I’ll ask them for more spice since it wasn’t hot enough for me.

Simon and Grandpa Tam outside of the restaurant. Check out those smiles!

Simon had his first taste of fresh watermelon. He was really getting into it and using his lower teeth to try to bite off a piece. I was afraid he was going to choke on it though so didn’t let him eat too much. If you click on the photo, It should bring you to the video.
