Rx: HUG qd et prn

Day 343 = February 8, 2011

Simon is starting to watch what we eat and want to eat what we’re eating. I had a banana with my breakfast this morning and he was watching me so I gave him a piece. With his top four teeth and the bottom four (mostly out), he is able to bite off small chunks to eat.

When we got home today, there was a package waiting for us. Simon seemed to know there was something inside for him.

The nerdy pharmacist in me had to get this shirt for Simon. “Rx: HUG qd et prn” (Prescription: HUG daily and as needed)

Daddy Ron picked up food from San Tung (dried fried chicken wings and string beans) and Simon enjoyed eating some green beans.

He’s back to eating vegetables and fish and eating larger portions. I wonder if this means he’s growing again?

Be My Valentine

Day 342 = February 7, 2011

Simon has some funny sleeping positions lately. Although it doesn’t look very comfortable.

Simon is preparing his valentine card for someone special…

Actually this is a piece of mail from Kaiser. He likes to check out our mail every evening when we get home.

Turn lemons into lemonade

Day 341 = February 6, 2011

Simon’s appetite is a little better now that he’s been getting his antibiotics. He’s been taking amoxicillin for the last few days and he has been less fussy, nose less runny, and cough not as often. He was probably also a little constipated but the antibiotics have helped that as well. I’m just glad he’s willing to eat a little more.

We had some fun this morning during breakfast. He had a good laugh at me.

And was a messy eater this morning. I have no idea how he gets all those food on his face.

Today I also tried out my new gadget, a Soda Stream carbonated drink maker. Makes delicious sparkling drinks, even just plain sparkling water. I look forward to tasting all the flavors. This is diet grapefruit soda.

We went to have dinner with Ron’s dad this evening. We ordered in and finished watching the Superbowl. Simon had his first taste of a lemon.

He was really excited about the lemon and took a few bites of the rind, until he got to the lemon pulp, then his expression changed.

Maybe he’ll like oranges instead?

Zeum

Day 340 = February 5, 2011

Since Simon is still sick, we skipped Gymboree today and decided to go check out a museum. It happens this weekend is one of the free weekends sponsored by Bank of America, a program called Museums On Us. So we chose Zeum to visit today. It’s a museum with hands-on exhibits, good for kids and adults.

We stopped by the lego wall and I watched closely while Simon munched on a yellow lego.

Daddy Ron was making Simon’s name in LEGOs.

We also visited the claymation area, the music video production area, digital photo editing, and more. Here is our creation at the digital photo editing room.

Ron and Simon making a time-delay movie.

After our visit, we went for lunch and Simon was impressed with the size of the tostada that Ron ordered.

Then on the way home we stopped by Cafe Madeleine to pick up a cake and to try their hot chocolate with chocolate whipped cream. Yum!

Check out Simon’s outfit of the day. These cute overalls are from Grandma Tam.

During the evening, we went to dinner with friends to celebrate CNY and also celebrate Dan’s birthday. Here he is cutting into his birthday cake, a chocolate cake with raspberry mousse and fresh berries.

First Ear Infection

Day 339 = February 4, 2011

Simon’s Outfit of the Day: Wearing Paul Frank while reading Paul Frank.

Morning nap time. We’ve been trying to prop Simon up on his pillow so that he can breathe easier.

So poor baby had a fever to 102 F (tympanic/ear temperature) while at daycare so I went to pick him up and got him an appointment to see the doctor. Thank you to my co-worker Zoe for giving me a ride to pick him up and then drop us off to this doctor’s appointment and thank you to the rest of my coworkers for covering for me while I went to take care of Simon. At the doctor, his temperature was 101.4 F so to make him comfortable, they gave him a dose of acetaminophen. After his exam, the doctor diagnosed him with an ear infection so prescribed some antibiotics (amoxicillin) for 10 days. Simon’s lungs were clear so at least not pneumonia. Poor little guy did not like having his ears looked at so protested quite a bit. It tired him out though so he sat very quietly while waiting for his prescription. I really like Kaiser for the ease in getting urgent care appointments for situations like these. We had to wait a while when we got there though, Simon even had a small nap while waiting but I understand it is cold and flu season still so there were lots of other sick kids there. Their pharmacy efficiency probably could do with some improvement though, we waited about 30 minutes for Simon’s prescription. I’m not sure how they prioritize their orders but there were a lot of people waiting and not many leaving. Maybe they were short staffed so I didn’t want to be one of those annoying impatient patients. I’m glad I could skip the counseling, one less thing to wait for.

After we got home though, Simon seemed pretty okay, except a little hungry. Apparently he did not eat at daycare and didn’t drink much milk or water. He ate a little bit of everything for dinner tonight: chicken, cheerios, veggies, grapes, etc… full mouth… *nom**nom*

He did a lot of standing tonight and tentative steps but we didn’t have a camera handy to take a video. Looks like he is slowly getting the hang of taking one or two steps before crouching or sitting down. He must of used up a lot of energy though since he went to bed early. Sleeping like a baby.

He got his antibiotics when we got home and another dose of acetaminophen before bedtime to help with the pain from the ear infection. Let’s hope Simon gets some good rest tonight.
