Jet lag

March 20, 2011

Yes we are jet lagged. When we got home yesterday, I thought we would be okay since we were able to go to sleep. Simon woke up a few times but eventually would fall sleep. This afternoon we all decided to take a nap and it ended up being a 5 hour nap. Simon having his early evening snack.

Mmm, I missed my peas, corn and Cheerios!

Or maybe I don’t…

Simon basically stayed in his pajamas all day. We all just wanted to rest.

We will see how many days it takes for all of us to get over this jet lag. With Simon waking up at night, it wakes us up and once awake, it can be hard to go back to sleep.

Back to San Francisco

March 19, 2011

Simon seemed like he really wanted to go home. He wanted to push the luggage out all by himself…

We had breakfast with Peai Tean, Ray, and Reuben then packed and headed to the airport.

We had a stopover in Taipei first so had a bite to eat.

I had a latte, Ron had a papaya milk, and Simon got a free glass of milk.

Simon slept really well from SIN to TPE and slept really well again from TPE to SFO. There was a kid screaming most of the flight but it didn’t seem to bother Simon (although it bothered everyone else). Our flight was really full so we had someone sit next to us this time. She said she was actually glad she sat next to us because Simon was so good. When we arrived in SF, he still looked a bit tired with his baggy eyes.

We are home!

Swimming in Singapore

March 18, 2011

We went to visit Joyce at work since I also didn’t get to see her last night. We only caught up for a few minutes but hope to see her in SF soon. Too bad Simon was sleeping. Thank you Joyce for this photo, I also borrowed this photo from her Facebook.

We ended up at Chinatown for lunch.

Chicken murtabak.

More delicious laksa.

After lunch, we went back to our friends’ place to spend a little time in the pool.

Reuben seems to enjoy being in the water a lot. Simon was probably a little tired and wanted a nap.

He had a nap right after we got back from the pool.

Then we met up with Ron’s INSEAD classmates for a classic “Friday Foodie” at Jumbo Seafood at Riverwalk.

Delicious prawns.

Singaporean chili crab, the real deal!

Complete with fried buns.

Yum yum! Ready to eat!

Photo opportunity with Jackson before he leaves.

Just finished and ready to go. Wouter took this photo because he didn’t want to be in it.

Then we went to Clark Quay to have a beer with Wouter and meet up with Clarence.

I love taking pictures of Simon sleeping. He always has such interesting positions.

Our last day in Singapore, we leave tomorrow afternoon.

Shopping Day

March 17, 2011

Even though we woke up early, Ron and Simon needed another nap before heading out for lunch.

We had lunch with Ron’s INSEAD classmate Charles, his wife Iliana, and their daughter Eva. I downloaded this photo from their Facebook. I hope they don’t mind I borrowed it 😛

After lunch, we went in search of things for Simon. We ended up at Marina Square where they have a store called Mothercare and also lots of other children’s stores on the third floor. One of the stores even has a play area full of plastic balls for kids to play in while their parents shop. Simon enjoyed it.

There is also a small playground inside that has a jungle gym of sorts. Then we ended up walking around to Raffles City, City Link Mall, and all around that area looking for more things for Simon. We lost track of time so I missed the talk at the National University of Singapore that I was going to attend. We also had a terrible taxi driver who didn’t know how to get to the condo and drove us around in circles and still tried to overcharge us. So since I missed my talk, we went to dinner with Peai Tean, Ray, and Reuben at Jurong Point at Fish & Co. I had one of their specials where you get two types of fish and pasta.

Ron ordered the crawfish pizza.

They ordered the platter for two.

It was way too much food for all of us even though Simon had some. He only like the noodles and some pizza crust. He got a little seaweed on his nose so that’s not a dirty spot on my camera lens, it’s actually his dirty little nose.

After our dinner, we met up with Patrick and Pearlyn at one of the food courts downstairs. Patrick moved to Singapore last year to be with his wife and I was supposed to meet up with them at the talk but since I missed it, they kindly drove out to meet up with us. We had dessert while they had dinner. We only had a short time to chat but it was good to catch up. They even gave us a ride home, we are ever so thankful.

Simon and I konked out for the night.

Sentosa

March 16, 2011

Today we decided to visit Sentosa Island but stopped by Clementi Hawker Center for some breakfast. I had some laksa. Yum yum! I missed this.

We took the MRT to VivoCity to catch the Sentosa Express to Sentosa Island. It only costs 3 SGD round trip and you can use for MRT/EZ-Link card.

From the tram you can see the Merlion.

Simon was extremely fussy when he wanted to take a nap. He wanted us to hold him to sleep so we tried to buy him this Tigger plush because we didn’t bring Ziggy. It didn’t work so Ron ended up holding Simon to sleep then putting him down in the stroller.

When we got off the tram, we walked around a bit. This is an updated Merlion.

We stopped by Universal Studios but decided it wasn’t worth it to go in because Simon was too young still.

Napping and sweating.

After a little nap, Simon was refreshed and ready to enjoy the sights.

Unfortunately he was still pretty hot.

Check out the big origami.

At VivoCity, the information lady recommended that we visit the Butterfly World and Aquarium since Simon was so young. They have a combo ticket which you have to request and it saves you a bit of money, Simon was still free. We visited the butterflies first.

There was a bunny in the butterfly garden.

Newly “hatched” butterflies. They are drying their wings, preparing to fly.

They had plenty of pretty specimens flying about.

They also had an Insect Kingdom.

There were live specimens like these plus also dried specimens in glass cases.

Then we walked to the aquarium where Simon explored the hands-on pool.

He seemed to enjoy looking at the fish.

We exited the aquarium after some effort just for lunch. They don’t have a stamp-out policy so they make you go to information and get a hand written return ticket to staple to your actual ticket then stamp your hand so you can exit. Then you have to turn in the hand written ticket and original ticket before being allowed in again. Kind of a hassle.

Mommy imitating Simon.

Singaporean bee hoon.

Simon and mommy bored.

After lunch, we went to watch the pink dolphin show. Unfortunately we got there too late to get a seat so had to stand outside. We were delayed by waiting for someone to open up the baby changing room door. Someone at information needs to get a key to open the door. A bit silly to have one if it’s not accessible. Anyways, Simon had watched the seal show earlier and during the dolphin show, he clapped his hands. I only caught a short video of it though. He claps with his right hand and left index finger.

Back to checking out the fish.

On the travellator going under the dome.

One last photo before leaving.

Our friends that we are staying with took us out to dinner.

Chicken rice.

Vegetables.

Pork ribs with fried bread.

Hainanese chicken. Delicious with their chili.

Deep fried battered fish with sweet and sour sauce.

Simon trying Hainanese chicken.

The boys were ready to leave.

It was a good thing we went early as there was a line outside when we left.

Simon was all pooped out.

While the babies slept, we had some chocolate hazelnut ice cream and some Mao Shan durian ice cream. Don’t “ew!”, the Mao Shan durian is much better tasting than the regular durian ice cream.
