Go Bears!

Lucky onesie 🙂

20130907-232742.jpg
Iris looked too much like a little baby boy so I put on some pink little shoes (from Grandma Chung).

We went to lunch in Berkeley with a friend visiting from Japan. Since there was a football game today, I pulled out Simon’s old onesie to show some school spirit! Here is a side by side of Simon and Iris.

Go Bears!

For lunch, we tried a place called La Mission in West Berkeley. They have their own parking lot, wasn’t crazy busy, and food was good overall. The best thing was their mole burrito. We tried it with the spicy mole but I think next time I want the sweeter one. Here is the filling:

We also had enchiladas. Ron said he really liked the steak.

20130907-234603.jpg
Tostada salad.

20130907-234624.jpg
Fish taco.

20130907-234643.jpg
Horchata. Love this drink!

20130907-234710.jpg
Chips with ceviche. I think they cook the seafood in their ceviche so this wasn’t really to my liking.

20130907-234734.jpg
Simon loved the chips of course.

20130907-234854.jpg
Then we went to Philz and ordered the mint mojito coffee and Simon had a delicious chocolate chip cookie.

Although he was too excited and forgot to share with us.

It was a beautiful day in Berkeley.

First Little Cold

Friday, September 6, 2013

What a rough first week. Actually for me, getting back to work was fine except for being a little tired. This morning, Iris woke up at 4am and was babbling and kicking her legs and flailing her arms until 5:30am. She really didn’t want to go back to sleep. After she did finally fall asleep, she slept until almost 8:30am.

Then she had her rough day with a little cold. A runny nose with probably a sore throat. She kept on gulping and struggling while drinking milk with Annie today. She looked a little groggy most of the evening.

20130907-033420.jpg
Simon had been a little sick last weekend with a sore throat. Then with all the crying, his throat hasn’t been able to heal and he’s been hoarse. Plus he or I could’ve picked up germs from other kids. I also have a bit of a sore throat :(. Vitamin C to the rescue!

When I picked up Simon from school, he was whimpering while listening to a story being read by the teacher. At least not outright crying. The teacher was kinder today but still kept on pointing out that he wouldn’t stop crying. But I think he was a little better today because Ron let him bring Ziggy to school today. He was still tired though and fell asleep briefly in the car but at least a little smiley when we got home.

20130907-033807.jpg
Then we told him we were going to Chuck E Cheese for dinner. Yay!

20130907-033848.jpg
Tired eyes Iris.

20130907-033927.jpg
Happy Simon at Chuck E Cheese.

20130907-034004.jpg
All tired out from a long day. Iris finally fell asleep on the ride home but only slept for about 30 minutes before getting a bath and to bed. She fell asleep by herself after watching her mobile and sucking her thumb. I was surprised she fell asleep as she usually requires more comforting when she is uncomfortable.

I am glad it’s the weekend. We can all try to make up on missed sleep!

Rough Day at School

Thursday, September 5, 2013

Saying goodbye to sleeping Iris this morning. She woke up at 6am, had milk, and slept until I left for work.

20130905-225943.jpg
I had an okay day at work but Simon had a difficult day at school. I got to leave a little early so was early picking up Simon. Sadly, I found him crying, sitting by himself, away from the teacher and other kids. He was saying, “I want my mommy”. I was a little disappointed in the way the teacher addressed me when I entered the classroom. She said something like, “he just keeps crying and won’t stop. I don’t know why.” It is the first week of school, I would think they would understand that some kids will have a rough start. She just seemed annoyed with Simon. I hope they haven’t “dismissed” him and still give him a chance to charm them. I found out from the another teacher that he did not take his nap so he fell asleep in the car ride home. He needs one of those wraparound neck pillows!

20130905-233819.jpg
When we got home, I checked his lunch bag and he hardly ate anything. Only the fruit and the baby bel cheese. This was the full box this morning.

20130905-234000.jpg
Iris waiting for us to come home with her smiley face.

20130905-234227.jpg
Simon likes his old Bumbo seat. Maybe he’s wishing he was a baby again so he won’t have to go to school.

20130905-234352.jpg
*sigh* I hope tomorrow will be a better day for Simon. It’s hard to see him so unhappy. He was like this with summer day camp but I think with the longer hours, it’s harder for him to adjust.

Simon’s First Day and Back to Work

Wednesday, September 4, 2013

Busy busy busy… Still trying to catch up.

Tuesday, September 3:
Our little guy’s first day of preschool. All packed and ready to go.

20130904-232152.jpg
I’m trying to pack him cute lunches everyday. Here’s his first one, a dinosaur ham and cheese sandwich with veggies. He only ended up eating the Dino chocolate eye (not the sandwich), a few vegetables, and the fruit I packed. He was probably anxious the first day so I hope tomorrow he will eat better.

20130904-232246.jpg
I wish I didn’t need to go either! Iris yanking on my hair.

20130904-232350.jpg
Simon getting acquainted with his school toys and classmates. Although he had a bit of a rough first day with crying and playing by himself only. He probably just needs some time to warm up to the other kids and his teachers.

20130904-232738.jpg
We all survived the first day back and relaxed in front of the TV with dinner and a movie.

20130904-232520.jpg
Both kids sleeping in similar positions.

20130904-232632.jpg

Wednesday, September 4:

Lunch Day 2 of chicken and cheese quesadilla with bunny cheese cut outs and veggies.

20130904-233219.jpg
Iris desperately sucking on her hands this morning. We all woke up too early I think so she was probably tired.

20130904-233337.jpg
Today Simon had a better appetite and ate all of his quesadilla for lunch. He seems to like tortilla skins. Ron put this one in the oven and it really puffed up! Simon loved it.

20130904-233511.jpg
Silly Simon sitting in his old Bumbo.

20130904-233556.jpg
I love kissing these cheeks when I get home.

20130904-233629.jpg
I hope I will be able to provide breast milk for Iris for at least a year but its pretty challenging to pump while at work. When I worked at UCSF, there were multiple pharmacists so one could relieve me while I took a break. Now there is only me so I have to find a “slow” time to get away for a few minutes so as not to irritate or inconvenience patients and their families who are waiting. So far I’m still doing okay with the production but also luckily, I have a good freezer reserve.

20130904-234030.jpg
I’m glad this is a shorter week so we all can have some rest, sooner rather than later. We are still trying to figure out our routine. Right now we are a bit disjointed and inefficient. Lots of adjustment but it will all be for the better.

Labor Day Weekend

Long, relaxing weekend…

Saturday, August 31:

Lunch with Tam grandparents before we all head out to Thunder Valley Casino.

20130903-232451.jpg
Checking out the beds in our hotel room.

20130903-232659.jpg
Time for a late afternoon swim. Iris put on a swimsuit for the first time (a gift from Auntie Tanya).
IMG_0036a
And wore her Hello Kitty robe.
IMG_0041a
For Iris’ first time in a swimming pool, she did great! She didn’t complain one bit and even did some kicking.
IMG_0053a
Simon had so much fun bobbing and swimming around with his arm floats. He stayed in the water so long that he got really wrinkly.
IMG_0070a
But smiling all the way.
IMG_0071a
Iris was pooped out too and fell asleep.
IMG_0073a
After her nap and refreshing shower, Iris and Ron had fun in the mirror. She’s really interested in looking at her reflection and smiling.
IMG_0085a
Yummy buffet desserts!

20130904-223602.jpg
Her makeshift bed for the night. Two armchairs pushed together with a fluffy bathrobe draped over it. She was already too tired so we didn’t have enough time to ask for a crib or pack and play to be brought up to our room.

Sunday, September 1:

Early in the morning, Iris ended up in bed next to me.
IMG_0096a
Tummy time!

20130904-223749.jpg
Piggy back on Grandpa Tam while waiting in line for brunch.

20130904-223828.jpg
One more time in the pool before we head home.
IMG_0097a
Beautiful day.

20130904-224001.jpg
Exhausted so time to go!

20130904-224030.jpg
Simon’s tiger plush is all packed and ready to go home.
IMG_0106a
A cozy warm bath at home wrapped in all her towels.

20130904-224731.jpg

Monday, September 2:

Last day of relaxation before I go back to work and Simon has his first day of school. I’m going to miss sleeping in late next to this cute little face every day.

20130904-225509.jpg
Iris really likes standing up.
IMG_0107a
She also really likes watching Ron’s fish tank. It’s like TV for her. It will usually calm her down when she’s fussy too. We need a mini aquarium to carry around with us. Comfortable in her bouncer just watching.

20130904-225747.jpg
Tomorrow is Simon’s first day of preschool. He’s growing up so fast!
