Wednesday, November 20, 2013

Got a little behind in picture posting so here’s an update.

Saturday, November 16:

Ready to try some new food. Before:

In the afternoon, we went to Coyote Point in San Mateo to celebrate C&T’s birthday. They had good food and fun games. Simon’s favorite were these bouncy balls.

Plus he had fun with the piñata.

Iris just enjoyed some time on the picnic blanket and watching the sky and swaying tree branches.

Later, Iris had a lovely photo shoot with Auntie Betty.

We went out to dinner in Burlingame at a Turkish restaurant called Istanbul Turkish cuisine. Delicious kebabs. Simon liked all the different meats which was surprising because he dislikes trying new things. He even liked the baby lamb chop!

Sunday, November 17:

We had a lazy morning at home before meeting our friend visiting from Japan. Iris enjoyed eating a book before breakfast.

We went to Cinnaholic and Purple Kow on the west side of Berkeley. Iris was really interested in my drink. Caramel black tea with boba and pudding with 50% sugar.

Simon wasn’t so interested in his drink. One of the iced milk drinks. He had just eaten a Ben & Jerry’s chocolate fudge ice cream cone so was full and played with his party hat from yesterday’s party.

Monday, November 18:

I’ve been having a hard time keeping Iris in her own bed all night. She’s been waking often to nurse. Maybe her bed is too small. She stretches out like this and moves around a lot.

Tuesday, November 19:

Sprawled out again in bed.

Ready to try some avocado! Can you see her teeth on the bottom?

20131121-063954.jpg
She liked it a little. It seems like she prefers texture to smash the food herself. So instead of making it into a purée, I just scraped off small bits for her to eat and she ate more this way and was less messy.

Simon’s lunch today were mini hot dogs over rice with carrots, strawberries, and apples.

20131121-064229.jpg
I used the little hot dog cutters to make penguins and crabs. I over cooked them a little…

Today was the first real rain and it was cold so I treated myself to a hot grass jelly drink with red bean and lychee jelly. Yum!

Iris got a new delivery of toys today and was so excited when we pulled them out of the box. You could see her eyes light up. These simple rings were her favorite. She gnawed on them and swung them around.

Wednesday, November 20:

Simon’s lunch today of ham and cheese quesadilla, carrot and apple “fries”, Asian pear, and grapes.

Iris is able to sit up by herself now but can still tip over when she can’t correct her imbalance. It’s amazing how much stronger she can get in only a few days time. It’ll be interesting when she can start crawling using her arms. Right now she can move forward by pushing her legs only but her arms get caught underneath her body. She’ll get there soon, I just know it!

All caught up!

Fishy Face

Friday, November 15, 2013

Since we moved, I haven’t had time to make Simon nice and pretty bento lunches. Usually it’s just baked chicken nuggets, bakery hot dog buns, mini corn dogs, rice with dinner leftovers, etc plus his usual fruits and vegetables. Today I finally tried out the mini hot dog cutters I bought a while back which are supposed to look like little fish. You can barely tell though so maybe I’m using it wrong. He still loves these little smokies hot dogs though. Also for lunch is a grilled cheese sandwich, carrots, grapes, and Asian pear.

So Iris really doesn’t like rice. She cried this morning when I was feeding her and also cried when Annie tried to give her some. So tomorrow we will move on to something more flavorful.

20131116-063726.jpg
Tonight we tried a Thai restaurant for dinner. No accidental peanut exposures for Simon. We have found out he really likes roasted or deep fried little birds like squab or quails. He thinks it is fun to eat. So at Plearn Thai restaurant, they have deep fried quail and Simon ate two out of the four pieces. Then he enjoyed the tamarind hard candy they give you with the check. It’s a bit sour but also sweet so he’s puckering up just for fun.

First Solid Food

Thursday, November 14, 2013

Iris had her first taste of solid food this morning and evening. I just cooked up some rice last night then used the magic bullet to purée it with some water and breast milk. I’m not sure how much she swallowed but she was curious and swirled the rice around inside her mouth.

20131115-050252.jpg
She was more interested in the spoon and gnawing on it.

20131115-050330.jpg
She tried again in the evening for dinner. Again she didn’t take much in and got tired of sitting in the high chair.

20131115-050434.jpg
I remember Simon not particularly liking rice as a baby but was more excited to move on to fruit, vegetables, and fish. I’m going to try one more day of rice then maybe add some vegetable purée this weekend when I have time to cook some up.

Simon has been a good eater the last few days. He’s been having second helpings of his breakfast cereal and finishing his portions of dinner.

Simon entertaining Iris.

Simon was my helper this evening to bathe Iris. He helped me to pump the soap into my hand and use a small cup to pour water over her head to wet her hair then wash out the shampoo. I think it’s a little hard for him sometimes when he has to “share” mommy but it seems to make him happy when I ask him to help out with Iris.

Iris, Happy 6 Months!

Wednesday, November 13, 2013

Iris had her 6 month well baby check today. She’s about an 80th percentile baby. She weighed in at 17 lbs 9.8 oz. She is 27 inches tall. Her head circumference is 43 cm.

20131114-045543.jpg
She did really well at the doctor’s office. Happy, smiling, and playing. Only when she got her shots did she turn really red when she burst out crying but quickly calmed down after hugging her and patting her back. Her legs are a little sore to the touch but otherwise she’s in a cheerful mood. She even fell asleep in the car so it must not be too painful. I love that she’s grasping her blanket.

20131114-045910.jpg
Simon didn’t really want to take a picture with me today so I only got one where he was looking at the camera.

20131114-050023.jpg
Iris is at the stage where she wants to put everything in her mouth. Like trying to eat the tray table of her Bumbo seat.

20131114-050152.jpg
It’s super hard to get a picture with her little 6 month old sign because she wants to play with it. “Hmm, what is this?”

20131114-050344.jpg
“I want it!”

Iris, happy 6 months!

Tomorrow she will commence solid foods!

Bath Time Fun

Tuesday, November 12, 2013

We woke Iris from a nap when we arrived home. She is really starting to pick up on our voices and the time/schedule of daily activities. When Simon and I get back, she wants to play!

20131113-032635.jpg
Simon has always enjoyed his bath time. These days he likes these scrubbers instead of toys.

20131113-032753.jpg
I look forward to the time when Iris can sit up by herself in the bath and play with some toys. Right now I think she finds bath time boring while lying on her back getting cleaned. She gets excited when I hold her into a sitting position and can watch the water running. She’s almost able to sit up by herself but a bit wobbly and too eager to move so will tip over. I know she’ll get there soon. Little girl is growing up too fast!
