Near my work in the Temescal neighborhood, the first Friday of each month, many stores open late and sometimes offer special discounts or events. This evening we went to one of my favorite stores in the neighborhood called Ruby’s Garden where they had a sake for the parents and a magic show for the kids. Simon was excitedly waiting on their sofa for the show to start. It was definitely worth braving the rain to see his happy face.

Little lady Iris stayed at home this evening. She impatiently waited for us to come home. Around 7:30pm, she got quite upset when we weren’t back yet. She was all smiles when we finally arrived home.

It’s a good feeling when both kids are happy.

Good morning Iris!

Today Simon helped me a bit to make his lunch. I spread the rice on the nori and he spooned on the “rousong” (肉鬆) then I added the carrots. We used a bamboo mat to roll the sushi then I cut it up in large and small rolls. His lunch was completed with Bosc pears and clementines.

The unit of inquiry that’s currently going on at Simon’s school is based on “play” so they’ve been learning different games. They displayed this game they played recently. They sang a song and made these pictures.

They also had a “toy show” or “show and tell” where each student brought a toy to show everyone how to play with it. Originally Simon brought his Ziggy but decided instead to show them how to play with a paper airplane. This picture was displayed on the wall.

We had Hello Kitty pineapple cake as a treat today from co-workers who just visited Taiwan. So cute and yummy!

Simon loves his tank tops. Maybe it’s too warm in the house?

I just upgraded to a new phone (Nokia Lumia 1520) so still experimenting with the camera and WordPress app so it’s taking me a while to post since I’m still trying to get used to it all so please bear with me!

Sprawled Out to Sleep

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

These mini hot dogs are cut with a little “fish” cutter and then pan fried. Kind of hard to see but fun for Simon to eat with his sticky rice, carrots, apples, and clementines.

Letter to Santa

Tuesday, December 3, 2013

Today I just baked up some mini corn dogs for Simon’s lunch. He also had baby carrots, a clementine, strawberries, Ritz crackers (per his request), fruit snacks, and half a cookie leftover from Daddy’s lunch.

In the evening, Simon worked on his letter to Santa. Here he is writing “DEAR SANTA”.

While Simon worked on his letter, Iris played with the Gymboree cube. She loved spinning all the beads and blocks.

Completed letter. Simon wrote most of the letters himself! He used a glue stick to put all the things he cut out of the ads from the weekend. He wrote “DEAR SANTA” and “SIMON”. I’m amazed that he can pretty much write his own name and now is brave enough to at least try. Usually he says “I can’t do it”, “I want you to help me”, or “I don’t know how”. We will help him but he did most of this by himself. Again, so proud!

Sitting Pretty

Monday, December 2, 2013

I love to sleep on my stomach and apparently Iris likes it too! It was so hard to be comfortable sleeping when I was pregnant since I was not used to sleeping on my back. So glad to be able to sleep in whatever position I want now.

Simon’s simple lunch today. Ham and cheese sandwiches with cucumbers, carrots, strawberries, and a clementine.

All ready for school! Simon wanted to wear this CAL hat to keep his head warm. He got a haircut this weekend so maybe he was a bit cold.

I forgot how amazingly fast babies grow up. She’s so strong now and eating pretty well in just two weeks. She’s also getting heavier and she now has 6 teeth (3 very visible and 3 just breaking through).

Simon is growing up too and becoming more independent. He didn’t get upset when I dropped him off at school and is able to verbalize more and tell me about his day at school. He used to just say “it was good” but now tells me about what he did with his classmates and the activities they had in class. Next week they have a field trip and I volunteered to drive and help out so I’m excited about that so I can see how Simon interacts with his classmates and teachers.
