On The Move and New Haircut

Sunday, January 26, 2014

Iris has learned how to move a bit in this walker. She can kind of scoot around but prefers to stand holding onto the outside.

She will “yelp” at you when she wants your attention or if she is making an effort to move. She also tends to wave or flail her arms in your direction when she wants something.

Iris seems to like paper things like boxes, tissue paper, and now this Starbucks coffee cup sleeve.

So Simon went to get a haircut this morning and the stylist did not listen or understand what Ron asked for. He asked her to cut it shorter but I think she cut it way too short. I was a bit shocked but Simon says he likes his new haircut. Here he is after a quick shower to rinse out the stray hairs.

Oh well, it will grow back eventually. I just hope he won’t get too cold.

Lunar New Year Celebration #1

Saturday, January 25, 2014

Sometimes I need to distract Iris in the morning for a few minutes as I get ready. Today’s distraction is a basket full of toys.

We spent some time this morning before lunch at a park in Alameda. Iris really loves the swing.

Simon had fun playing with some other kids at the park. He also really liked the airplane.

A butterfly was sitting on a flower bush nearby and Iris and Simon were both very interested in looking at it.

We had lunch with Grandpa Tam in Oakland Chinatown before heading out to Millbrae to hang out with the Chung grandparents. Simon fell asleep on the way and we didn’t want to wake him yet so Ron took the whole car seat out of the car and set him down near the Chung’s piano to sleep. He slept this way for more than 2 hours. He really must have exhausted himself at the playground.

Iris wasn’t tired at all so had a fun time playing with Grandma Chung and Uncle William.

We finally woke up Simon because we had dinner reservations at Mokutanya Yakitori Charcoal.

Iris fell asleep on the car ride over.

Unfortunately, she woke up soon after when she heard a loud noise and was fussy for most of dinner until she could fall asleep again. I had to carry her in the Ergo and walk around the restaurant until she fell asleep. It was a little smokey, a little noisy, and a little dark so probably confusing for her. We watched them do a little grilling in this little window.

After dinner, we passed around red envelopes. Simon was very happy.

He even posed for this super cute photo with Auntie Betty.

More celebrations to come!

Dentist Visit and Paper Fun

Friday, January 24, 2014

Simon and I had our dentist appointments this morning at Contra Costa Dentistry. Simon was very excited to go to the dentist because he would get to watch “Planes” while having his cleaning. The office has monitors on the ceiling so you can have a nice distraction while getting your teeth worked on.

Simon did a great job with his first set of x-rays and his cleaning. He collected three tokens today and got some fun prizes like this mustache. Lorax Simon!
SavedPicture-201412701834.jpg

Unfortunately he has developed some small cavities that need to be worked on so he will be back to see the dentist another day to have those filled in.

Simon went back to school for lunch and the afternoon activities while I went to treat myself to some coffee before heading home. Philz… yum! It took me a few hours to clean and organize the backyard but I’m proud of how organized everything is now. Simon will have a few days in February when school is closed so he’ll get to enjoy the outdoor space as long as it doesn’t rain. He really enjoys going outside to paint and ride his balance bike or scooter or draw on the ground with chalk.

Simon did this fun projects at school in the afternoon. Year of the horse.

Iris received a gift from Auntie Tiffany and inside was some tissue paper which she found more interesting than the gift. She had so much fun with tugging the paper and ripping it.

We all had a good laugh about the situation in this picture. I asked Simon to pose for a picture and Daddy decided to give him bunny ears.
SavedPicture-201412701930.jpg

Then I let Simon see the picture and he was confused about where those “ears” came from so he looked behind him and actually got up to check to make sure there wasn’t anything on the table. But then I took another picture for him to check if it still showed up. The second picture was at a bad angle so he couldn’t see the “ears” so I took another one.

When he looked at this picture, he started cracking up too and said “Daddy! It was your hand!”. He was so confused and it was so funny to all of us because he was so intent on figuring out what that was behind his head.

Little Iris wasn’t paying much attention, she just wanted to stand up and try to “cruise”.

Chapped Cheeks

Thursday, January 23, 2014

I love Iris’ funny sleeping positions. I guess as long as she’s comfortable…
SavedPicture-2014124124337.jpg

I think packing smaller lunches has worked out better for Simon. Less waste and he hasn’t been complaining about being too hungry after school. Today is mini chicken tacos with cheese, cucumbers, strawberries, and half a banana.
SavedPicture-2014124124345.jpg

Iris has had chapped cheeks lately. Probably due to a combination of cold weather and drooling.
SavedPicture-2014124124354.jpg

Simon was not in the mood to have his picture taken today so I had to sneak it in.
SavedPicture-201412412442.jpg

*nom* *nom*… teething?

Ron got a little better looking picture for Simon.

And yes, he is not wearing pants.

No Nap = Too Tired

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

For the first time in a long time, I didn’t bring lunch so treated myself to Bakesale Betty’s Fried Chicken Sandwich. The bread has changed and I think the price changed. It was $7.75 for the sandwich and $6.95 for the salad. The slaw was still just as yummy, the chicken breading delicious though the chicken a little dry, and the bread was delicious except that it kept on breaking apart. My 1000 calories for the day.

When I picked up Simon from school, I observed all the Lunar New Year decorations the kids were working on. They made firecrackers.

And some signs.

SavedPicture-201412221652.jpg

Simon was a little bit in a bad mood when I picked him up. When he gets in the car, I always buckle him in before he is allowed to have his snack. Today, he got a bit upset with me for trying to buckle him in and almost started to cry. Then he started disagreeing with whatever I said on the drive home. Within a few minutes of finishing his snack, he was out cold. He did not take his nap at school so this is probably why he was fussy. Ron carried him into the house and Simon continued to sleep.

Iris greeted me happily at home.

After his nap and some dinner, Simon was in a better mood and had a good bubble bath.
