Simon’s lunch of clementines, carrots, and butter pasta with mini sausages.

Simon really likes his sofa fortress. Iris wanted to join in the fun today.

But Simon likes to hide inside by himself.

We received a bunch of boxes this afternoon and Iris was really curious to explore what they were. I opened one box and there were still packing peanuts inside and she really wanted to look inside. Caught in the act!

I can hardly believe that Iris is already 9 months old!

She wouldn’t sit still for a picture and was curious about her little sign.

She wanted to rip off the circle.

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day so I helped Simon prepare his treats for his friends at school. At first, we used stickers to spell out his classmates’ names but he got tired of that so I wrote all their names and he cut them out and taped them onto the treat packs. Iris was curious as to what we were doing so climbed up to stand against the table next to us.

Sofa Fortress and Peanut Butter Challenge

Simon’s lunch of broccoli, pizza rolls, strawberries, and a Girl Scout Thin Mint cookie. Simon usually does not like mint flavored things but I let him have a a Girl Scout cookie last night and he liked it, most likely because the chocolate masked the flavor of the mint.

After my lunch today, I took a brisk walk to my favorite store on Telegraph Ave: Ruby’s Garden. I left my phone at home today so didn’t have an easy way to tell the time since I stopped wearing a watch long ago. So I went to Ruby’s Garden since it was close and they have a clock so I could tell when I had to leave to get back to reopen the pharmacy. On my way out, one of the owners came running after me with a gift for Iris: cute Hello Kitty bibs! Thank you Mary! This is why I support this business, they are always so kind and thoughtful plus they carry great products. These bibs are perfect for Iris’ recent excessive drool!

Iris now has 8 teeth! Lots of drooling lately leads to soaked necklines. Iris has been “stealing” Simon’s toys lately and Simon hasn’t been too happy about it. He gets kind of whiny and says “No! Mei Mei!” then tries to take his toys back. But if he’s not playing with it right then, he will let her have it. She’s just a little busy body and curious about what everyone else is doing.

I forgot to mention that last night Iris had a few Cheerios with peanut butter and did not have any reaction! Yay! I hope this means she is not and will not be allergic to peanuts. Her pediatrician says the sort of “golden” period was 8-9 months old for her to have mother’s milk protection from potential allergens. I am still hopeful that Simon may grow out of his peanut allergy or when he gets older, to try to enroll him in a desensitization trial.

Matching Outfits

Simon’s lunch of mini sausages cut into fish and crab, cheesy pasta, mango, and a few chocolate covered pomegranate seeds. This time I didn’t burn the sausages!

Iris loves playing with Simon’s old activity table. We finally dug it out of the garage and cleaned it up so she could play with it.

These days I need to ask Simon’s permission to take a picture of him. He knows I take a picture of him every day but he won’t smile for me unless I ask him, “Simon, may I take your picture for today?” then he will pose for me and look into the camera.

I didn’t notice until they were both playing together that they had matching outfits! Yellow tops and dark jeans. They changed out of their pajamas at different times and I pick out Iris’ outfit and Ron helps Simon pick out his. So this was a funny coincidence!

Mochi and Misu’s New Home

Sunday, February 9, 2014

I get a kick out of Iris’ eating yogurt pictures.
IMG_0077.JPG

Last week, I received a call from Home At Last with information about a potential adopter for Mochi and Misu. We’ve been talking through the week and she really wanted to adopt them and she sounded like she would be a great owner for them. She lives in Redding which is a 3 hour drive from Berkeley. So we decided that we would meet about halfway in between so that neither of us would need to make the whole drive. We decided to make a little road trip of it and stop to have lunch in Williams, CA. Iris had a nice long nap and Simon got to play with the iPad.

The kitties meowed for the first 40 minutes of the car ride but eventually quieted down. They would only meow when I turned back to look at them in the back of the minivan.

Our meeting place was Granzella’s in Williams and we bid farewell to the kitties so they could make their way for another hour and a half to their new home. I was sad to see them go but also glad that they will have a nice warm home and be spoiled by their new owner.

We had lunch in the restaurant before heading back home.

I had the Reuben sandwich with onion rings. It was so-so. The rye bread got really soggy and the onion rings weren’t as crispy as I would like them but everything tasted okay.
IMG_0084.JPG

Simon even took a bite of my sandwich and said it was good. He usually doesn’t like to try new things so this was surprising. He ended up having kid’s fish and chips but likes the chips more than the fish.

On the way back, Simon, Iris, and I had a nice nap while Ron drove. He stopped off at a reef store in Vallejo while the kids continued to sleep for a bit.

Good to be home!

Check out Iris dancing! When Iris hears a song she likes, she will stop what she is doing and start wiggling her little bootie around.
