Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park

Sunday, March 16, 2014

We ordered in for breakfast on our last day in Lake Tahoe. One of our favorite places is nearby called Driftwood Cafe. So far we have loved everything we have ordered. This time around the french toast and the loaded waffle were really delicious.

After checking out, we went exploring and ended up at Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park. On the way, we stopped by to take some pictures of Emerald Bay. Iris fell asleep during the car ride up.

At the park, it was $10 for parking and we took the wheelchair accessible trail to the water. It was a beautiful day.

Iris woke up for the stroller ride, drank some milk, then went back to sleep again.

Simon and Ron had fun with the pine cones on the beach. Ron spelled out the kids’ names and Simon made a heart.

Simon built a little “rock man” by stacking up some stones.

He really enjoyed climbing the rocks and hugging the trees. Actually, Ron asked Simon, “do you think you can reach your arms around the whole tree?” so Simon tried but, of course, couldn’t do it.

Iris spent most of the time napping again. I love her long lashes but yes, she does have chapped cheeks.

Awake in the car finally as we take a break for stretching before heading home.

We stopped by for dinner at Pacific East Mall in Richmond and shopped for some food at Ranch 99. Both kids love sitting in the shopping cart.

A nice warm bath to end the night.

Weekend excursions can be fun but also very tiring. Since Iris was still a bit sick, she had trouble sleeping at night so I was very tired most of the time and she was also very tired most of the time. Her nap and feeding schedule was all mixed up and she didn’t really eat much solid food, just wanted to drink milk, be held, and comforted. I don’t mine but my arms are really sore after holding her most of the weekend. It seems she is on the tail end of her illness so here’s to a better week!

A few more pictures from our trip, mostly the same but I couldn’t decide which were better:

Adventure Mountain and Hot Tubbing

Saturday, March 15, 2014

The kids woke up early to have breakfast and watch morning cartoons.

We decided to head out to Adventure Mountain for the kids to do some sledding and play in the snow. Caden and Simon all dressed and ready for the snow. Strike a pose!

Iris was taking a morning nap so we arrived a little later to Adventure Mountain. Simon and Daddy had already been riding the sled down the hill a few times.

Then it was our turn. Iris didn’t seem to mind but also didn’t seem to enjoy it. I think she was still tired.

Iris in her little snow suit. She insisted on being held for most the time we were out in the snow.

Simon had fun sledding down by himself.

And having a snow ball fight with Uncle William.

Eventually Iris was interested in playing in the snow so I made a little snowman for her and she used the shovel to smash it flat.

Ron and Simon put together this snowman. The base was already there but Ron made the hat and decorated the face. Simon used his Doc Hudson car for the mouth.

After lunch (where Simon had a little allergic reaction 🙁 probably to peanuts somewhere in the restaurant) and a nap, we decided to go swimming in the heated pool then into the hot tub.

After an exhausting day, we stayed in for dinner and did some coloring while watching a movie.

Drive to South Lake Tahoe

Friday, March 14, 2014

We drove up to South Lake Tahoe where we will be spending the weekend with some friends and family. We left late morning to start the drive up so that we could also stop in Sacramento for lunch. We had lunch at Ramen House Ryujin. We stopped her the last time as well and we really liked it. I had the spicy version this time around. It was good but I think I prefer the white or black tonkotsu ramen.

Iris wasn’t showing any signs of illness on our drive up. She enjoyed sitting outdoors for our lunch.

Our friends joined us on the ride up to Sacramento so Simon was glad to have his friend Caden to sit next to during the car ride and to have lunch and to have frozen yogurt.

We arrived at the Marriott Timber Lodge and were greeted by “Tim Bear”. The kids were so happy to meet him.

I think they were both super excited to be in Lake Tahoe and to be able to hang out together and play in the snow (tomorrow). Here they are jumping for joy to be able to have pretzels!

Iris, Happy 10 Months!

Thursday, March 13, 2014

Iris checking out her “10 Months” sign.

I gave up and removed the Hello Kitty so she could just hold the number part.

Simon’s lunch of grapes, apples, Mickey Mouse chicken nuggets, and carrots. We are finally putting good use to all the ketchup packets we collect from various fast food joints. They are easy to stick into his lunch box rather than squeezing ketchup into portable/disposable containers.

At Simon’s school, they are learning about “Seasons” so they’ve been doing various artwork related to it. I think the first one was to determine what the kids thought about each season, the second one are trees, and I’m not sure what the third one is about. When I asked Simon, he says “I cannot tell you”. That is his response when he actually means “I do not remember”.

He seems much more creative than Ron and I. Growing up so fast…

Poor Iris had a fever to 102F this afternoon (using an ear thermometer) and had a runny nose and wet eyes. Annie gave her some acetaminophen so her fever went down and she was able to get some sleep while being held. But poor little girl was exhausted by the time I got home so I took her to have a nice warm bath. Her eyes were still a little watery but the steam helped to clear her nose a little bit. Poor baby girl but “Happy 10 Months!”

Simon’s lunch of apples, green grapes, a ham’n’cheese sandwich, and Savannah Smiles Girl Scout cookies.

Guess who really loves ice cream? Check out Simon’s big smile.

Iris can really move across the floor if she wants to. Speedy little girl.

She is starting to “wave” a little now. She will wave hi and bye… sometimes. Still learning.
