Lot 1 Food Court, Sim Lim, and Rochor Tofu

We didn’t eat real food today, just snacks!

Since we were heading to the MRT, we stopped by the CCK Lot One food court for a snack of Taiwanese goodies. We had the oyster noodle soup, fried chicken chop, and papaya pearl drink.

After some shopping at Sim Lim for electronics. We went to their food court for some spicy ramen, fried chicken, and thai style chicken. Ron bought me this weird green drink with tapioca in it but I had no idea what flavor it was.

In the evening, we went to have the famous Rochor bean curd and “yao tiao”. The line was long but it went fast and the bean curd was creamy and good.

Right next door is another bean curd place which apparently is owned by a relative or friend of the place we ate at. The rumor is they had some sort of fight so they split up to compete with each other. But the line was so much longer at the place we ate at. Too bad we probably won’t have the chance to try out the other place to compare.

NUS Canteen and Sakae Sushi

We really are trying to eat our way through Singapore before we leave… I think food will be one of the things we miss most.

Today at work was actually slow enough that we could walk to NUS for lunch. Usually we stick the staff canteen which is in the basement of the hospital. The NUS canteen is about a 5-10 minute walk. We tried something a bit healthier, an herbal soup with duck and preserved vegetables. It may look a bit oily but it was very appetizing with a bowl of rice.

For dinner Ron and I went to Sakae Sushi at Bukit Batok. We’d ordered delivery from them before but only had sushi. They have a lot of other things on their menu in the actual restaurant. The menu is on paper but is also available right at your fingertips as there is a computer monitor at each table with a mouse underneath the counter so you can just click and order. Pretty high tech.

I wouldn’t say the food was to die for but it was a cool experience.

Pepper Lunch and JUMBO Seafood

Today I had a half day off and I had no idea why. Actually I think it’s because I will work this coming Sunday so to make up for it, they give us a half day since they don’t pay us more.

I met up with Ron for lunch at Pepper Lunch at the Choa Chu Kang mall called Lot One. I saw this place the last time we ate at the food court and it looked pretty interesting. It’s a curry beef hot plate.

The meat was a bit dry and it needed a bit of some type of sauce.

Ron ordered a typical Taiwanese meal of stinky fried tofu, pork over rice with a tea egg, and pickled vegetables.

In the evening, we met up with an old classmate of Ron’s dad. He originally picked us up at the airport when we arrived last year and unfortunately we haven’t had time to meet up in all the time we’ve been here. Now that we’re leaving, they kindly wanted to send us off with a good Singaporean seafood dinner at the famous JUMBO seafood on the East Coast. It’s right on the water.

We had steamed oysters with garlic.

Cereal prawns.

Black pepper crab.

Chili crab.

We had a terrific and tasty dinner thanks to the Chang family!

Bali Thai at IMM

Our friends Timo and Elina are heading back to Finland tomorrow so we had one more dinner with them tonight. We tried Bali Thai at IMM. They didn’t have the specialty drinks I ordered and it was a bit expensive but tonight was more about the company then the food.

After our dinner, I went back to my coworker’s place and had DURIAN!!!

It’s pretty good once you get over the smell. Tastes a bit like sweet onion but creamy/milky. I had quite a few pieces, yum!

Farewell at Build-a-Bear in Suntec City

Boy I was so nervous today at work since today was the day my co-workers picked for my farewell party. I said I’d pick the place and have Ron make the reservation. Little did they know I wanted to surprise them with a thank you gift to show them how much I appreciate them allowing me into their workplace and treating me like a friend, not just a colleague.

The pharmacy staff we have at the cancer centre are all young and heart and we get along really well so I thought they’d really like Build-a-Bear.
So we reserved a time and gave everyone a budget to spend on their bear. They were really surprised and I think everyone had a good time even though they were starving.

We chose our bear.

We heard our bear.

We stuffed our bear.

We stitched our bear.

We fluffed our bear.

We dressed our bear.

We named our bear.

Then got to take them home.

Afterwards we had a quick dinner at Pizza Hut since it was the only place open. Our original choice for restaurant was already closed since it took us longer than expected to Build our Bears. Good times Good times.
