Happy Lunar New Year 2011

Day 338 = February 3, 2011

Simon’s new PJ outfit. You’re supposed to wear something new for the new year and Simon needed something comfortable since he’s still not feeling so well.

He slept okay last night but was fussy this morning so Ron ended up holding him to take a nap while I had to head off to work.

Throughout the day, Ron had to wear Simon in the Baby Bjorn while he was napping or else he couldn’t fall asleep. Part of it was so he could breathe but he also wanted some comfort.

But as the day wore on, he seemed to get better, his appetite picked up: chicken, blueberries, freeze dried strawberries/mangoes, grapes, and Cheerios.

Then later he eats some freeze dried blueberries which are crunchy if you don’t soften them with saliva first. They are probably soothing his itching gums, perhaps his molars are coming in too…

Simon seemed a lot better today so we did some more standing exercises today.

Ron says all he wanted to do today was read books and sleep. I guess he’s not quite back to his normal self but at least not fussy all the time and not super lethargic. He didn’t have a fever today so will go to daycare tomorrow. He just has a bit of runny nose and that intermittent cough.

Eve of the Year of the Rabbit 2011 (4709)

Day 337 = February 2, 2011

HAPPY 11 MONTHS SIMON!

It’s the eve of the Year of the Rabbit 4709. Grandpa Chung came to visit in the morning and brought Simon some lucky money.

Simon’s Outfit of the Day: If crying…

Insert Burger. From the Shake Shack during our trip to New York.

Today Simon had a temperature of 99.5 F so Ron was called to pick up Simon early from daycare. His nose was stuffed up and he had difficulty breathing when laying down to go to sleep. We let him sleep for a few hours before heading to have Chinese New Year Eve dinner with my parents. We had a traditional dinner. My mom made individual shark fin soup, steamed in her super sized wok in the wok room.

We also had roast pork, chicken, and lettuce dish with mushrooms, abalone, black seaweed, and oysters. Simon is not so happy as he was a still tired and not feeling so well.

My dad took care of Simon for part of the evening so that my arms could rest. They walked around the house taking pictures with their flowers for the new year.

My mom is holding a rice cake.

Can you believe this is edible? Kind of neat.

Simon had another nap in my arms before we home after dinner.

After we got home, Simon had a temperature to 101.3 F so we gave him a dose of acetaminophen. I hope he will sleep okay tonight. At least Ron will stay home with him tomorrow so he will be comfortable in familiar surroundings.

Tentative Steps

Day 336 = February 1, 2011

Simon seems to be getting sick again, a little stuffy nose and intermittent cough. He had a rough time with sleep since he had a hard time breathing.

Simon’s Outfit of the Day. Batman! I’ve finally packed up some of Simon’s clothes since he can no longer fit them and I just washed all his new clothes so he’ll have lots of new outfits to showcase. Thank you to Sabrina and Min for this T-shirt. When we first got it, I couldn’t imagine the time when Simon could fit into it, I can’t believe that time has come so soon.

He’s been a bit of a picky eater today as well. The Grape Divide… when given the choice of blueberries and grapes…

He chooses all the grapes and leaves most of the blueberries.

Simon had an exciting evening today with taking some of his first steps! Ron and I were super excited. He’s been teasing us with standing up by himself and using his car to take steps… and today he finally took some independent steps before falling into Ron’s arms.

Just a little more practice and we think he’ll be able to walk confidently.

CIA – Cutie in Action

Day 335 = January 31, 2011

Simon gets easily chapped skin on his cheeks but with proper daily moisturizing, it gets better quickly. Babies’ skin turns over so much faster than adults. Thank you to Auntie Joyce for bringing this outfit for Simon all the way from Singapore. CIA = Cutie In Action.

Crouching Tiger (Simon is year of the tiger afterall… haha)… Hidden Dragon. Simon is getting more stable and stronger everyday, he can do a controlled sit rather than plop quickly on his behind.

He loves us to read him books while he flips the pages.

Visit to Oakland Chinatown

Day 334 = January 30, 2011

Today we went to Oakland Chinatown to have lunch with my parents.
On the way there, I got Simon to do his new “trick”. Going “ah-ah-ah-ah” using his hand. One day he started mimicking me, so cute!

Simon did pretty well during lunch, wasn’t fussy and ate quite a bit. Apparently he liked this high chair as he tried to put his foot up to relax.

After lunch we went for a quick walk around the flower mart that was going on in the streets of chinatown. Simon let Grandpa Tam hold him while we walked around.

Then he suddenly wanted to switch to being held by Grandma Tam. Grandma took the opportunity to give him some kisses and make him smile, a bit ticklish probably.

It started to rain so we headed home. Simon had a good nap and woke up eager for dinner. I made him some whole wheat spaghetti with chicken and veggies.

He took the first few bites with a spoon then insisted on taking the spoon from me to play with and eating with his hands.

He was surprisingly able to eat a lot of it with his hands even though the noodles were pretty slippery. He is getting better with his pincer grasp. He didn’t finish the bowl, but maybe three-fourths.

After dinner, he had a little playtime. Who can resist those big eyes?

Excuse my bad singing but it made Simon laugh when I was singing “If you’re happy and you know it, stomp your feet”. I love his little giggle.

Simon has a cute Chinese silk outfit which he might wear for new year or else save for his birthday. We let him try the hat on for size, includes a pony tail.

After bathtime, time for bed!
