This is what handsome looks like

Day 293

Doesn’t Simon look handsome?… well, except he’s got a little yogurt on his lips…

“Sorry mama, I won’t do it again…”

It’s so nice not to have a sick baby anymore. He is refreshed and ready to go after his morning nap.

Yesterday Simon kept pulling on the blanket that was on our small couch in his playroom/our bedroom so we decided just to lay it on the floor. It makes the ground softer and he has been lounging on it when he gets tired.

Brunch at Four Seasons

Day 292

Simon’s little fingers are getting chubby.

We met up with Kathleen for a late afternoon brunch at the Four Seasons. It has been about 2 months since we had the chance to catch up. Since Simon had been sick, I was afraid we wouldn’t make it to brunch but with a long (almost 2 hour) morning nap, I think he was refreshed and ready to tackle the delicious brunch.

The waiter brought Simon this little crab stuffed toy. Not sure why but it was good to distract Simon before food came.

We ordered the two-course meal with one bloody mary. I had the salmon salad appetizer (which was actually additional $5 on top of the two-course meal price, just for the salmon). Actually, Simon had most of the salmon. He really liked it and kept on wanting to eat more. Likely because it was fresh and moist, not like the frozen stuff we try to cook him at home.

Ron had the croque monsieur to start, basically a ham sandwich with a poached egg on top. Quite a large portion for a first course.

Kathleen had the tuna tartare with avocado and shrimp chips (at least I think that’s what they were) on top.

I’m not usually a fan of bloody mary but these were pretty delicious. Tart and spicy, yet refreshing.

I had the brioche french toast with fresh stawberries. I was already pretty stuffed from the salad so only ate 1/2 a slice but it was yummy.

Ron had the crab sandwich served with salad and potato chips. He said it was a bit “fishy”.

Simon and Kathleen.

After brunch, we went to the lobby to have Simon open his gift from Kathleen. He didn’t seem too interested in tearing apart the paper himself but seemed curious as we did it for him.

She got him this stuffed polar bear and a T-shirt that says “Future CEO”.

Simon was kind of tired and probably full. He hasn’t eaten much all week until today. But he tolerated some tickling and laughed for us.

The nutrition must have given him lots of energy since he had this hyper moment at home.

Winter illnesses are no fun for baby or parents.

Simon’s back!

Day 291

Smiling Simon has returned!

And I am almost back to normal as well. We even went for a short walk around Union Square and visited the animals for adoption at Macy’s.

We found enough energy to go to my work holiday party for a few hours although Simon fell asleep right before we got there. We are slaves to our sleeping babies… I stayed in our parking spot until Simon woke up then went into the party.

It was an exhausting time for me because Simon just wanted to be held by me. After the party, I was ready for Simon to have an early bedtime. He was overstimulated probably so was ready and excited about his bath because he knows it leads to bedtime. He started to get really cranky around 8pm and when I asked him “are you ready to take a bath?”, he calmed down right away. He waited patiently for the bath water to fill up, had a fun time splashing for a while then getting his bath, then put on his PJs and drank a bottle of milk before going right down to sleep. He was sound asleep within 5 minutes.

Another sick day at home

Day 290

I stayed home another day from work because I was having all over body aches and still exhausted. There was enough coverage at work so at least I wasn’t worried that I was leaving them high and dry. I basically slept most of the day. I think I was only awake an hour for each meal and basically slept the rest of the time. Simon also slept a lot (although not quite as much as me) and did not really eat much. He basically stuck to a liquid diet of milk all day long. Ron tried to feed Simon but instead Simon felt like making raspberries… complete with saliva overflow…

Ron ordered dinner for us and we were waiting for it to be delivered. Simon discovered all our takeout menus and decided to test out what sounds they make.

He had a good time flapping them around once he realized they make a fluttering sound. We were afraid he might get a papercut or try to eat the paper but just had some fun with holding them and waving his arms around.

At least he seems like his usual happy self for a few minutes. He must be feeling better and slowly so am I.

BRAT diet

Day 289

BRAT = Bananas Rice Applesauce Toast (and add “TY” for Tea and Yogurt)
Simon really hasn’t had much of an appetite since yesterday and didn’t want to eat any breakfast with me this morning either. He actually also seemed to have vomited a little in bed, there was some sticky white stuff on his blanket and Winnie the Pooh plush. Ron also hadn’t been feeling well. So I shouldn’t have been surprised when nausea suddenly hit me at work. It was too overwhelming so that I had to go home sick. I’ve only ever done this one other time in almost 7 years on the job. I think this it the third or fourth time I’ve been sick with something this year but the first time it’s been bad enough for me to be home.

Luckily for me and Simon, Ron was feeling better so he took care of us. I went home and crawled into bed while Ron entertained Simon. Ron tried to teach Simon to share his toys.

Simon is also probably still sick and a bit tired since even though he wanted to play, he seemed like he wanted to lie down to play with his rattles.

After I finally was able to get up to eat some dinner, I also fed Simon some dinner. His first solid food meal all day. They are freeze dried bananas and Joe’s O’s. Simon doesn’t like rice and we didn’t have apple sauce so this is the closest I could find to bananas and toast.

“Hmm… sour”

“Yo mama!”

“Just playing!”

“Mama, are you ok?”

After this I had to go back to lie down again after having some porridge. I think it made me nauseated and tired again so Ron had to finish feeding Simon.
