Generous Big Brother

Simon’s lunch of mini corn dogs, carrots, cucumbers, Bosc pear, strawberries, animal crackers, and Whopper eggs. The teacher told me that I should pack Simon more lunch since he always seems to be hungry and whatever is leftover, Simon can have during afternoon snack time.

Though it never fails that after picking him up from school, he has his *one* allowed snack and wants more. Today I allowed him to finish his carrots and cucumbers from lunch then have his snack of Pretz. He was in a generous mood today and shared with Iris. She is like “yum!”

Simon kindly shared more.

Too Much Fun in the Sun?

Monday, April 28, 2014

Ron packed most of Simon’s lunch today: leftover chicken quesadilla with tortilla chips. I just cut up the watermelon and gave him a probiotic drink.

Simon did not take a nap at school today so he fell asleep in the car during the ride home. I thought he would wake up when we arrived home like he usually does but he stayed fast asleep and his cheeks were very pink.

I decided to carry him inside to see if that would wake him but nope! He continued to sleep.

Iris was a bit tired too when I got home. She was sucking on her thumb.

We went to check on big brother and even with Iris touching him, he didn’t wake up.

I suspect he was out in the sun too long today without enough sun block. I saw he had some remnants of sun block on his face but perhaps it just wasn’t enough. Plus he didn’t nap so was probably tired because of that as well. Simon ended up not waking up for dinner and Ron just carried him upstairs to go to bed.

Yerba Buena Playground

Sunday, April 27, 2014

Ron had to go into the office to get something so we decided to take a trip into San Francisco. Our first stop was a snack at Cako in the Sony Metreon for some cupcakes.

Then we went to the Yerba Buena Playground. They had some hula hoops laying around where you could try to spin them around your belly or just roll them like wheels on the ground. Rolling them like wheels was a lot easier. The size was just perfect for Iris to grip with her little hands.

Iris and Ron explored the BIG slide.

Then Iris explored the climbing wall. This was a new feature for us at this playground. Simon got a little frustrated and upset after attempting to climb this wall (he did get to the top) so quit playing and sulked in the stroller.

Simon was in a better mood after we got home and helped me make banana bread. We used some ripe baby bananas which made the bread smell much sweeter than using regular bananas. It will be lovely for breakfast.

Eating breakfast. I am looking forward to when mealtime is less messy.

National Take Your Child to Work Day is the fourth Thursday of April (I only know this because of Facebook) so since I missed it, I had an opportunity for a “make-up” day today since I had to work and because Ron had to take Simon to his swim class. Iris definitely won everyone over and she was really well behaved. She worked at each station, first the typist station.

Then the filling station (she learned to open an easy open cap).

Then the checking station.

After all that hard work, I carried her in the Baby Ergo until she fell asleep. Then Simon and Ron came to have lunch in Oakland Chinatown and pick up Iris to take her home before I got off work so she wouldn’t need to work the whole day.

Simon did really well in his swim class today from what I could see in the videos. He wore goggles for the first time and they seemed to help him swim farther. He has resisted goggles in the past but the instructor mentioned them last week so Simon was willing to try them for this week’s class.

Here he is swimming towards the instructor.

Here he is swimming back towards the wall.

Lawrence Hall of Science Field Trip and Iris’ First Step

Simon’s lunch of apple pear, mini tacos, carrots, fries, and a probiotic drink.

Today, Simon’s class had a field trip to the Lawrence Hall of Science and I volunteered to drive. The teacher arranged this trip so they could watch the 3D movie about rainforest bugs but also to just explore the museum. Simon was still a bit scared of the larger than life robotic bug displays they had, especially the spider. He was “ok” with the butterfly and lady bug but they were still a little frightening because they are so huge. But I think they all had a good time exploring with their classmates. It can be exhausting chaperoning though. I had one teacher with me plus four kids total and I was responsible for watching two of the kids while inside the museum but they didn’t always necessarily want to go to the same place so tried to got different directions. Everyone was well behaved though and mostly listened so that was great but still mentally tiring because of the worry of losing a kid.

Little girl is slowly getting ready to walk. Her legs are pretty strong to be able to climb from bean bag to the sofa. Plus she can stand with only holding on with one hand.

And yes, she took her first unassisted steps today. I had to be behind her in this video or else I would distract her and she wouldn’t take a step. Daddy is super excited! I don’t know why she insists on holding on to her sock…

Almost walking… yikes!
