Biggie Pooh Attacks

Day 203

Simon has taken to chewing on the tail of this lion toy. This toy is great because it has so many things for him to chew on, like the plastic star and flower on the arms.

Biggie Pooh might have been annoyed at Simon and decided to go on the attack.

But Simon was able to escape after some wriggling and creeping.

Likely Simon was trying to crawl up Pooh’s chest and pulled him down on top of himself. At least we know Simon can get himself out if necessary.

Last week Simon had a photo session at a studio called Whippersnappers. I had purchased a Groupon a few months ago and decided to use it when Simon turned 6 months old. Today we had our viewing of the best shots. Our package included the 45 minute photo session, a photo CD with 35-40 shots (for home printing up to 8×10), two 8×10 prints, and two 5×7 prints. We are deciding if we should get a framed family portrait… but if you would like to view the photos, click here and the password is “click34” (without the parenthesis). They will be up for 2 weeks.

Clicking the above photo will also bring you to the online gallery.

Future Hunk

Day 202

This morning, Ron took Simon to a open play time at Parents Place. It costs $5 per session but Simon had fun playing with some new toys. He seems to really like this one with the wooden pieces on wires.

Plus he seems to like toys that have some height. He likes to hold onto these with both hands.

Since Parents Place is close to my work. I had the nice treat of having lunch with my little family. After lunch, my future hunk went home to play.

His play mat pal is Biggie Pooh.

He may be trying to use Biggie Pooh to held him stand up. He tries to grab at his red shirt.

Since he couldn’t climb up Biggie Pooh, Simon tries to climb up Ron’s arm… Simon and the beanstalk!

Unfortunately he was not successful. He wasn’t grabbing onto Ron’s arm tight enough and didn’t have enough leg muscle to stand up. Although he is getting stronger every day!

Orson Restaurant

Day 201

As I mentioned, Ron has been working to get Simon to sleep through the night. Usually in the early morning, Ron will move Simon from the bedroom onto his playmat blanket to sleep the rest of the morning. After some crying, he falls asleep.

A few minutes later, he moves.

Then a bit later, more movement.

Still moving.

So to be safe so that Ron can get some sleep too…

The pillows were to keep him from moving off the mat and so the kitties wouldn’t bother him. Simon looks confused to wake up with those pillows surrounding him.

Even though it was a bit of a cold drizzly day, we went to brunch with some friends at Orson Restaurant. Simon fell asleep on the walk to the restaurant.

Some of us had bottomless mimosas (for $10) and we shared the cinnamon sugar donuts with peach jam and glaze.

Ron ordered the OTT burger served with duck fat fries. The sauces are kimchee ketchup and tonkatsu mayonnaise. The burger was huge and a bit mess to eat since it was so tall. The sauces were pretty delicious yet simple.

I had the crispy pork belly with kabocha squash and brussel sprouts. A fried egg and pickled cherries. As expected, the pork belly had plenty of fat, probably more than meat so it took some effort to cut out some of the fat. Also, by the time I got to eat it, the skin wasn’t very crispy so it was hard to cut so I just ate that part at the end.

Our friend ordered the french toast with butter pears. A HUGE portion, way too much for one person. The bread was a very thick slice and soaked through with egg and covered in syrup.

I didn’t eat right away because Simon was a bit cranky. He woke up at the restaurant when Ron sneezed and couldn’t get himself back to sleep. I had to cover him with a blanket and hold him until he fell asleep. I swear he’s like those birds who need their cage to be covered by a blanket in order to sleep.

They gave us a complimentary cream cheese brownie. It was very rich. More like fudge.

Needless to say, we were very stuffed after our brunch. We went for a walk to Borders in SOMA which is closing so most of the store is 30% off. We bought some bargain books for Simon which were an additional 40% off the bargain price. The cashier says they plan on closing in mid-October so likely things will be even more discounted then. A good time to get Christmas gifts?

Simon has been doing really well with eating. He eats almost anything… the only thing he doesn’t like is peas or green beans. We’re not sure if it’s the color of the food or the texture. He seems to really like anything with bananas. After he has his meal, he gets to play with the toy part of his tray table. He enjoys sucking on the purple “pen” for the magnetic board.

Simon has now been sitting up while taking a bath. He has a few toys to play while splashing around in the water.

Stretching and Stepping

Day 200

Simon sometimes gets shy in front of the camera. He will be talking and active then suddenly quiet down when he realizes that the camera is on him. In this video, I was trying to capture him saying “dada”. He is coughing here because he sometimes chokes on his saliva, he hasn’t really learned how to swallow it yet.

This morning, we went for a car ride to check out a gym for Simon called My Gym.

Ron had been looking online for different activities for Simon. We just went to check out the gym today but will go back for a free class next weekend. They are offering two free classes right now so we’re going to check them out and see which one better suits Simon and see if he enjoys them. They basically have different exercises and activities depending on the age group.

Simon seems to be over his cold, he no longer has mucus in his nostrils. All clear!

Simon’s two little lower teeth are coming out and more visible now. It’s hard to take a picture of them though since he keeps on moving.

Simon just has a really funny expression here.

After meals, we have been giving Simon a cup with a straw filled with water. He likes to chew on the straw but not sure if he is sucking up any water. But he is learning to grip the handles and maybe he’ll accidentally get some water through the straw and want to figure out how he did that.

Ron has been doing different exercises with Simon including having Simon stretch his arms above his head. When he stretches his arms above his head, Simon will take a few steps. It’s kind of like a chimpanzee or something. We missed it in this video but Simon was able to keep his balance and take one step before falling over. He might just skip crawling and head straight to walking.

Our arms are getting a good workout with supporting Simon while he tries to stand. My back is getting even more of a workout when I carry him these days since he seems to weigh so much more. In the evening Simon and I went out for a walk and my legs and back are tired. Also, during out walk we made a stop into Old Navy to change his diaper and he peed all over himself, the changing table, and me. It’s the first time in a long while that he has peed while having a diaper change.

Also, Simon seemed to have a good night’s sleep last night. He went to bed around 10:30pm and woke up around 6am this morning, 7.5 hours without a peep. He woke up to have some milk then went back to sleep for another 2 hours. Ron has been trying to train Simon the last few nights to sleep through the night. Simon has been crying quite loudly in protest (I can hear him through the door) but eventually does go back to sleep with some coaxing. This is the first night that he didn’t wake up at all but I’m guessing it is a fluke since he was probably making up some missed sleep from yesterday. I guess we’ll see in the next few days if the training is really working or not.

Giants versus Brewers

Day 199

Waking up after a good morning nap. Check out the turtle shell on Pooh’s head… a future Halloween costume or school bag for Simon.

Getting ready for the Giants game tonight. Thank you to Auntie Patsy for the bib.

Simon and daddy heading to the ballpark. Thank you to a random stranger for taking this photo!

Simon’s second time at the ballpark.

Unfortunately, Simon slept for the entire game. He did not have a very long afternoon nap so was tired out by the time the game started. He got a bit cranky but when I covered his head with a blanket and rocked him a bit, he fell asleep. He even slept through the screaming and screeching children behind us. Everyone was amazed he slept so soundly.

Our coworker’s sister was performed at the pregame show for Polynesian Culture Night so also offered us discount tickets. That’s why a bunch of our coworkers went to the game tonight. We all walked away with a souvenir Scorpion bowl. Here are some pictures of our crew from the evening.

Me and our technician Remi.

Me and Ron (this photo needs flash…)

Ed and Julie (a Dodgers fan at a Giants game! hee hee!)

Although the Giants lost, it was still fun. Good eats of course and good company too!
