Kids Love Water

Sunday, September 15, 2013

Weekends always go by too quickly. It was good to sleep in and have a relaxing weekend with family.

Saturday, September 14:
Just chilling on the bean bag chair.

Simon attended the monthly Lowe’s build and grow clinic. He was so excited and happy that it was a fire truck.

We headed out to the Peninsula to have lunch with Ron’s family. We had a good Taiwanese lunch at Joy Restaurant in Foster City. Iris with Uncle Henry and Auntie Betty.

Iris with Uncle William.

After lunch, we went to Hillsdale Shopping Mall and Simon got a Hello Kitty lollipop for a treat.

20130915-214601.jpg
We hung out at the grandparents house for the rest of the evening. Both kids needed a nap but Simon wouldn’t fall asleep and Iris cried (loudly) for almost 15 minutes before calming down and falling asleep.

Hi Mommy! I’m just quietly watching the fish tank while you finish dinner.

Sunday, September 15:
Our little flower.

Iris’ nails grow so fast. It’s hard to keep up with the trimming. So poor thing scratched herself in the middle of the night.

Simon enjoying our dim sum lunch.

Iris really likes watching Daddy’s fish and water movement.

20130915-215225.jpg
She tracks the fish a little as they swim around.

Simon is less interested in Ron’s fish tank but prefers to be hands-on with water like swimming, water tables, building sand castles, water fountains, etc. Today, he helped Ron to wash the car!

He helped to wash both cars and happily did it. Our cars now look super shiny and finally clean! A nice way to start a new week 🙂

Iris, Happy 4 Months!

Friday, September 13, 2013

Simon’s lunch of pizza rolls, chicken and broccoli pasta salad, white nectarine, edamame, babybel cheese, animal crackers, and a few fruit snacks. I think Simon is eating more lunch, in part, due to the little treats like fruit snacks. I also packed an afternoon snack of apple chips, goldfish, chocolate bunny cookies, and brownie cookies. Only things left were the edamame and pasta salad. I didn’t have time to try making onigiri this week so that will be next week’s goal.

Sweet little Iris this morning. She was surprisingly in a good mood considering she had immunizations yesterday. She was a little warm but not anything close to a fever.

20130914-040830.jpg
After school, Simon was so happy to see our neighbor’s grandkids. They had started school too so haven’t been over to visit in the last few weeks. Simon wanted to go over and play right away and they were willing to watch him while I went inside to make dinner. I found him in their backyard “fishing” (pool noodle) for “sharks” (pool boogie boards).

Iris, happy 4 months!

It was difficult to get a good picture of her with the sign since she kept on grabbing hold and trying to put it into her mouth. Her grip is getting pretty strong and likes to grab onto lots of things like clothing, hair, toys, burp cloths, your finger, etc. She is starting to recognize people and get startled when it’s not who she expects. Like yesterday with the doctor, she kept on staring intently with big eyes as the doctor examined her. She didn’t cry but just stared as the doctor talked and would turn toward me if I said something. She will search for Ron when he says something nearby and give a smile if she sees Daddy looking at her. When I get home from work and picking up Simon, she will also look for me once I start talking to Annie. She kind of bobs her head around, craning to see. Her neck and back aren’t completely strong yet so it’s cute to see her trying so hard to find us. *heart melting*

4 Month Well Baby Visit

Thursday, September 12, 2013

Simon’s lunch of mini corn dogs, strawberries, and raspberries. Also his snack of low sodium Ritz crackers, dried persimmons, animal crackers, and a few fruit snacks. He cleaned up everything except the raspberries. So proud our little guy is finishing his food.

So far, perks of working in Oakland Chinatown are my favorite pearl tea place (Sweetheart Cafe) and the Cupkates truck. I didn’t get to go to the truck myself but my brother brought me back some. Unfortunately they ran out of my favorite, salted caramel, so instead got red velvet, s’mores, and caramel apple. Looks yummy and looking forward to digging in!

I was able to leave work early to take Iris to her 4 month well baby checkup and immunization. She did well and didn’t cry at all during the exam. Here she is waiting quietly on the exam table.

20130912-230919.jpg
She only cried for a minute after her three shots and one oral vaccine. She’s 15 lbs 13 oz and 25.75 in long. Growing and growing! She was surprisingly calm on our way back to the car. She was really tired and quickly fell asleep.

Simon seemed to have a better day today. Ron picked him up and he was happily playing pretend as a doctor. He still asks when school will be over and says he doesn’t want to go but it seems he’s slowly adjusting. I dropped him off this morning and he started crying and screaming as I left. It was difficult for me to walk away and just close the classroom door so he wouldn’t run after me.

Happy to be home and taking a bath before turning in for the night.

Bumbo Escape Attempt

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

Simon’s lunch today of Hawaiian sweet rolls with hot dogs, strawberries, white peaches, broccoli pasta salad, animal crackers, and babybel cheese. He ate most of it except left half the peaches and half the pasta salad. He also ate his snack of crackers and apple chips. Plus drank a 10 oz thermos of milk. I think his appetite is definitely back!

Little Iris sleeping this morning. She has been twisting and turning in bed so has rubbed off part of her hair in the back. She’s able to more easily scoot herself around on her back so has to be watched more closely whenever on her back, including the diaper changing table.

20130912-033325.jpg
Simon’s school project. They are learning about the five senses. This is from yesterday.

20130912-033409.jpg
Today he had art and they made these which is supposed to be a turkey with their handprint as the base.

20130912-033515.jpg
Simon wasn’t crying at all when I went to pick him up. He was playing dress up as a policeman. But he did not nap today so was tired in the car. We hit bad traffic on highway 24 so it took is an hour to get home 🙁

20130912-033704.jpg
We were late getting to eat since I had to make dinner. But Simon was very happy to get home and have dinner and his evening fruit.

20130912-033745.jpg
Iris had a long day of being awake. Nanny said she didn’t nap in the afternoon so both of them were a little tired looking. But Iris perked up and was happy to play. I put her in the Bumbo and she wasn’t in the mood for sitting still. She kept on trying to escape by leaning toward one side.

20130912-034029.jpg
Daddy getting Iris to smile at the camera.

20130912-034152.jpg
Simon imitating Ron. At bedtime, we read and sing a song while lying next to Simon on his bed. Ron usually lays on his side and uses his arm to prop up his head. I guess Simon felt inspired to copy him today and found it humorous hence the funny grin.

20130912-034439.jpg
Still two more weekdays to go. I’m already pretty tired and looking forward to sleeping in on Saturday. I wish there was some way to pump while laying down and sleeping. Saving all this milk is best for Iris but it is also time consuming when you’re already tired and just want to sleep. My routine lately has been to put Iris to bed then pump, sleep a few hours, wake up to pump, go clean the kitchen (dishes and baby bottles), make lunches, feed Iris when she wakes up, then back to sleep a few more hours until we all have to get up for work and school. Everything gets done that needs to be done in these wee hours of the morning.

Lunch Bento Leftovers

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

Simon’s lunch of ham and cheese sandwiches with fruits and vegetables. Surprisingly he ate all the little sandwiches!

20130911-022318.jpg
Ever wonder what happens with the leftovers after cutting out all those cute shapes? They become mommy’s lunch! (Or maybe some people throw them away, but that’s wasteful!)

20130911-022435.jpg
Every day gets a little easier I think. Simon pleaded not to be taken to school this morning. He complains but still gets ready to go each morning. When I picked him up, he was a little sad but not crying. He had a little after-school pick-me-up of frozen yogurt with gummi bears.

20130911-022839.jpg
Apparently Iris had a rough day with a rumbling tummy but she showed no signs of that while playing with Daddy.

20130911-023006.jpg
Laughing out loud.

Happy children are one of the best things in life.
