Tilden Park, Family Outing, Lazy Sunday

Sunday, August 11, 2013

Another weekend already over?! Time is going by too fast…

Friday, August 9
Simon and I started out the day by visiting the Little Farm at Tilden Park. We brought some Romaine lettuce to feed the animals.

Simon wanted to show me his climbing skills on their fence.

20130811-210919.jpg
We went in the small visitors center they have nearby and Simon patiently waited his turn to sit in this cat carving.

20130811-211059.jpg
Then we had a picnic lunch on the grassy field next to the parking lot.

20130811-211206.jpg
Simon enjoyed his chocolate chip cookie for dessert.

20130811-211256.jpg
Then we headed to the steam train to take a ride.

20130811-211404.jpg
And surprise, Simon wanted to take a second ride. He’s usually done after one but wasn’t ready to head home yet this time.

20130811-211521.jpg
But pretty much konked out quickly on the car ride home.

Iris stayed home with our nanny while we were out and about.

20130811-211903.jpg
We all went out to dinner together at The Habit and Yogurtland. Simon was so hungry, he started licking the ketchup! Eww!

20130811-212011.jpg
I got some yummy frozen yogurt, including Tweety’s lemon cream.

Saturday, August 10
Iris watching her favorite animal on her mobile, the yellow lion.

20130811-212301.jpg
Our family outing included a trip to Larkey Park and dinner at a new Mexican restaurant for us.

20130811-212435.jpg
Unluckily for Simon, he got injured again. An older and much bigger kid, at least four times his size was climbing on the toddler slide and jumped off the top, hitting Simon who just slid down to the bottom. Poor Simon got hit on his temple and arm.

20130811-212709.jpg
Big kids should not be playing in an area called the “Tiny Tot Playground”. But at least Simon recovered quickly and doesn’t seem too hurt except for the redness. Other interesting note for the day, Simon ate his first taco and liked it! Now we finally have a new food item that he will willingly eat. He doesn’t usually enjoy new things so this is a big deal for us 🙂

Sunday, August 11
Hello everybody! Iris hasn’t practiced tummy time for a few days so I found her in a good mood this morning to try.

20130811-213214.jpg
Ron and Simon went to watch the Planes movie this morning and also came across a classic car show in Pleasant Hill. He must’ve been so excited.

20130811-213404.jpg
Iris was a happy but poor napper today. The longest period she napped for was 45 minutes. This face is irresistible!

Everybody, Peace Out!

Ron took this picture of Iris today.

20130808-224301.jpg
Taken just at the right moment of her hands and funny expression.

Now rewind the day. This is Iris sleeping this morning. Cozy in her fleece jammies, hanging out with her Hello Kitty. Look ma! No swaddle needed.

After a fussy, nap-less morning, sleep eating.

My guy Simon looking sharp in his bow tie T-shirt. Today was the last day of camp for the summer so he dressed up for the little party.

Nyah Nyah Mommy!

20130808-225409.jpg
Smiley Iris.

20130808-225456.jpg
Iris laughing out loud.

This is the first time she has laughed out loud like this while awake. She does it often while she is asleep. It was so fun to watch her smiling and laughing so excitedly. Please excuse my silly mommy voice trying to get her to laugh 😀

Watermelon versus Double Chocolate Chip Cookie

Wednesday, August 7, 2013

Watermelon versus double chocolate chip cookie, which would you choose?

Simon chose:

20130807-222442.jpg
In actuality, he chose the watermelon first, had a few pieces, then went ahead to try the cookie.

20130807-222519.jpg
He proceeded to finish the entire bowl of watermelon and his half cookie. I was surprised he went for the watermelon first since he absolutely loves chocolate. I guess fruit is his first love. And yes, those are band aids on his forehead. He tripped and fell again at camp, too excited to see his friends.

It was a chilly day today in Walnut Creek so it was even cold in the house. Iris wore the sweatshirt from last night to stay warm while playing on her play mat.

20130807-223329.jpg
To encourage Iris to use a pacifier instead of her fingers, I bought this baby item called a Wubbanub. The pacifier is sewn onto a soft toy, in this case, a tabby cat.

20130807-223853.jpg
She likes it sometimes but it seems she prefers her hands if she had a choice. But I realized today, when she is really exhausted, she doesn’t want a pacifier or her hands, she just wants to fall asleep without anything in her mouth.

Today, I also figured out why Iris has been fussy recently while drinking from the bottle. She would drink eagerly but suddenly stop and cry out. When she stopped, you could hear the air rushing through the valve. Basically the flow was too slow for her and she was getting frustrated! So today I tried the next flow size and she eagerly drank 140ml (about 4.5 oz). She had only been drinking about 60-120ml (2-4oz) before. Now it makes me think she just wasn’t getting enough milk which led to afternoon fussiness. Poor baby. Mommy will try to do a better job in reading your signals.

Oakland Zoo, Out with the Girls, Dinner with Family

Tuesday, August 6, 2013

Here’s what we’ve been up to the last few days.

Sunday, August 4
We visited the Oakland Zoo in the afternoon. Simon wanted to have a picnic so we just got some food at McDonald’s then had lunch at one of the picnic tables at the zoo. My guys looking so happy.

20130807-002113.jpg
It was so crowded at the zoo, we parked near the gate and went through the rear entrance near the Children’s Zoo area. Simon started climbing over everything.

20130807-134026.jpg
Mr. Daredevil even decided to hang upside down on the rope web.

20130807-134042.jpg
Iris just chilling under the sun.

20130807-134209.jpg
While Simon played, Iris and I took a stroll. This time with the Ergo, I just used the little pillow and not the whole insert and that was much more comfortable for both of us.

20130807-134352.jpg
So comfortable that Iris fell asleep.

20130807-134448.jpg
Simon had so much fun climbing around that he hardly saw any animals. We have membership so can go back anytime so at least he had fun today.

Monday, August 5
Today was a day out with the girls! My friends Vicki and Kathleen came out for brunch and shopping. We had brunch in Dublin at Denica’s. Vicki and I shared the berry crepe and bacon and sweet onion omelette.

20130807-135525.jpg

20130807-135536.jpg
Kathleen and her daughter Elyse joined us shortly after. Elyse was so cute in wanting to touch Iris’ hand. Iris didn’t know what to make of her advances.

20130807-135819.jpg
Brunch was not bad. Everything fresh. Crepe could have been a little thinner, was kind of gummy. Omelette filling was delicious, difficult to go wrong with bacon!

After our brunch, we headed to the Livermore Premium Outlets. It was the first time for all of us. Lots of high end shops but also the usual outlet shops as well. Very clean and lots of seating throughout. Also pretty easy to navigate without weird alleyways or unexpected turns anywhere. I just bought some clothes for Iris for next year but nothing for myself this time around. Tried to show some restraint! Iris did well out and about today, even taking a 2 hour nap in her carseat/stroller. Here she is with Auntie Vicki.

20130807-140548.jpg
We headed back before rush hour traffic and Simon was happy to take a picture with Auntie Vicki. Especially since she also brought him a bucket of toy dinosaurs.

20130807-140814.jpg
Iris fell asleep at 7:30 pm. Tired little girl.

Tuesday, August 6
The amazing sleeping baby slept until 4:30am. 9 hours! I didn’t take advantage though and went to bed late. I think excursions from home exhaust Iris.

Tonight’s plans included swimming class and dinner with the family.

It was windy and cold but Simom didn’t seem to mind being in the pool. When out of the pool, he didn’t mind the cold as long as he was wearing his robe.

20130807-141351.jpg
We had a belated birthday dinner planned for my brother. With the cold weather, I pulled out this sweatshirt for Iris. Auntie Betty gave this to Simon for his first Christmas. I’m glad to be able to use it again.

20130807-141622.jpg
Simon wore a hoodie too. Go Bears!

20130807-141721.jpg
Iris with Grandpa and Grandma Tam.

Simon helping Uncle Tim blow out the candle on the cake. Haagen Daz has the best ice cream cakes.

It’s been a busy few days. Looking forward to a lazy next few days before the weekend activities start.

Strong Simon

Saturday, August 3, 2013

Simon climbed on top of this tunnel at the playground all by himself. He’s built up his muscles so he’s able to pull himself on top. Amazed.

20130803-223256.jpg
Sweet smiling Iris.

20130803-223508.jpg
She had a lot of smiles for us today.

20130803-223742.jpg
Mixed in with a lot of fussiness. She turned in early tonight, around 8:30pm instead of the usual 9:30pm. We went out to lunch with Ron’s family then they came over to hang out. I think she wasn’t used to so many voices. But we have to get her more used to more stimulating environments or else it will just get more difficult to take her out as she gets older.
