While he was playing, I spotted Simon sucking on Moo-Moo’s foot. Maybe he’s telling us he’s ready to try beef.
We haven’t tried solids with him yet since we haven’t found a big chunk of free time to do it in. I’ve heard from friends that the first time with rice cereal can be time consuming and also very messy so we’ll have to try it on a weekend when we don’t have anything to do. For now, he’s still drinking plenty of milk and still hungry every 2-3 hours. He is more consistently eating 4 oz (120ml) at a time so has gotten out of the habit of snacking.
As I mentioned yesterday, we created a little play area for Simon. Can you find Simon?
This is great for all of us so Simon has a safe place to play and we can be down on the ground with him without hurting our knees. Since Simon can turn around more easily, it’s no longer safe for him just to play on the sofa since if we turn away, even for a second, he can roll himself off and potentially fall and hurt himself. Although I’m guessing once he starts to crawl, this area may become obsolete since we can’t confine him into this area. Ron is thinking that we should place these mats all over our floors but I’m not convinced considering our cats are still walking around and they are bound to try to use it as a scratching pad. But it’s working out great for now.
So apparently last night someone messed with our blog and it went down for a while until Ron had time to figure out what went wrong and fixed it. So now it is fixed and hopefully more secure. So while I was waiting for Ron to work on our blog, I just spent the morning with Simon. He let me sleep in a bit later today, until 7:15am.
Simon seems really determined to put his entire hand into his mouth, it’s quite funny to watch but I can’t imagine what his expression will be if he actually achieves stuffing his entire fist into his mouth…
Simon proceeded to take a really long late morning nap that was lasting more than 2 hours. It was about 11:30am when he went to sleep and we figured he’d be up by 12:30pm so that we could go out to lunch… but he fooled us, he proceeded to sleep until almost 2pm and by then Ron and I were starving so wanted to wake Simon up and didn’t want to make him unhappy either. We knew he could hear us as he kept on smiling and peeking when Ron was talking to him. It took over 2 minutes to wake him up. I put socks on his feet and we unwrapped he blanket to finally get him to wake up.
Check out his new outfit from Grandma Tam. A cute set of a white polo onesie with Mickey Mouse overalls from Walt Disney World.
We finally went to have lunch and also dropped by Costco to pick up a few things. Surprisingly it wasn’t quite the madhouse it usually is at Costco so we were able to leave quite quickly after picking up a few things. On our way out we noticed they had signs for “gelato made fresh daily” and it was only $1.50 for three scoops on a waffle cone or $4.99 for a quart to take home. We couldn’t pass up such a deal and for the cone, you can choose all three flavors: mixed berry, pistachio, and vanilla with chocolate shavings.
Simon had fallen asleep inside Costco so we enjoyed the gelato by ourselves. In our opinion, the best flavor is the pistachio. It was a big cone though, I can’t imagine one person finishing the entire thing. Imagine one person ordering the $1.50 hot dog with drink and the $1.50 three scoop gelato cone? Only $3 but probably not the most healthy meal… oh well, once in a while indulgence it okay I guess. I certainly had my carbohydrate quota for the day with the noodles I had for lunch and the amount of carbs in the gelato and waffle cone.
After we got home, we spent the afternoon arranging our living room to better accommodate Simon’s growing amount of toys. He doesn’t have his own room a lot of his stuff is in our living room. Only his bed and clothes and boxes of diapers are in our bedroom for now. It felt surprisingly good to clean and it feels so much more spacious in here even with the addition of Simon’s toys and playmat. At Costco, we picked up this set of foam mats that interlock to create a bit mat, they were only $13, probably cheaper than if you bought them at a baby store. I’ll take a picture and post it tomorrow after we finish arranging everything else. We need to find some sort of toy chest to store all his toys and books.
This morning I stayed home with Simon for a bit while Ron had an appointment so I went to work a bit late. Simon decided to wake up at 6am so I got up with him to spend as much time as I could with him. He only stayed up for about an hour before decided to go back to sleep for another 2 hours. He probably didn’t get enough rest overnight.
He naps with his entourage of friends. Winnie the Pooh, Pudding the puppy, and Moo-Moo the cow are around him so that when he wakes up, he can play with them.
After I went to work, Ron took over playing with Simon and maybe got a bit overwhelmed…
Nah, just kidding! Ron decided to do the laundry and took this fun picture of Simon in our laundry basket. He’s probably wondering how the heck he’s going to get out. I wonder how he’ll feel when we put him at the bottom of the Pack’n’Play rather than just the bassinet part. I hope he won’t hate it.
As you see, Simon has this great bib that says “Moo Moo” so he can relate to Moo-Moo the cow and they can have a nice nap together.
Look at all the drool on his bib! Thank goodness this is one of those bibs with the waterproof lining on the other side so he doesn’t get all wet himself.
Here is Simon making more distinct “RAZZ” sounds and also playing on hit playmat. He is starting the like the parrot toy because when he squeezes the feathers, they make a “crinkle crinkle” sound.
Although we don’t have anything planned, I am looking forward to the weekend of just relaxing and hanging out with Ron and Simon. It’s been exhausting going back to work and being a wife and mom but I can’t imagine doing anything better right now.
Simon saying to me in the morning, “Mommy where are you going?”
It’s so hard to leave in the morning when he is awake, I just want to keep playing with him and listening to his cute little cooing.
Ron and Simon came to pick me up from work again so I didn’t have to take the bus and could spend more time with Simon. We decided to go for an evening walk since we haven’t gone out together for our walks since I started work again. I bundled him up since it was cold outside. He may not be able to wear this CAL hoodie for too much longer, the arms are too short for him already.
He had a little nap during our walk, like usual when we were in Old Navy.
Cute dresses on sale for ladies and cute onesies and hoodies for baby boys… but didn’t buy anything this time, solely for exercise walking around the floors.
Simon has moved on from sucking on this thumb to sucking on multiple fingers instead. Sometimes he’ll even try to stick his whole hand into his mouth and he’ll slobber all over. It’s quite cute but very messy.
Simon has also started to make new sounds… kind of like “razz” and high pitched cooing. It’s very cute too but also very messy since he will usually splatter his saliva all over the place. Here he is talking to Ron and making razz-berries and his new high pitched voice.
He kind of randomly does this talking and we can’t yet make him do it on demand. He does recognize when we’re smiling at him and will smile back and I can usually make him laugh out loud when playing with his cow chime ball. We have been trying to get him to recognize hand movements just like the simple wave “hi” but I don’t think he understands it yet. I wonder if baby sign language is the way to go? Anyone have an opinion to share?
Apparently Simon had a bad day with gas. Ron took Simon to visit his grandparents for the day and he was cranky for most of the time because he couldn’t release his burps. Next time we have to remember to bring along his simethicone so he won’t have such a bad day again.
But he was still cheerful later in the afternoon while playing with Grandma Chung.
When I got home, all I wanted to do was play and hold him so that’s just what I did. Until I needed to go to sleep myself then I put him down on our bed for a while and got ready. He was sleeping so soundly, he didn’t even notice that I moved him from my arms to the bed.
I am glad for the short work week this week so that the weekend seems like it comes earlier.
