Contentment

Day 177

Hi everyone!

Simon drinking at 45 degrees.

The picture of contentment.

I love it when Simon falls asleep on me. It also reminds me how big he’s getting. He used to fit so compactly on my chest but now he can wrap his legs around my sides. He’s a warm bundle of joy.

Pho Garden Challenge

Day 176

*nom nom* Simon has learned to grab his toys with both hands so he can bring his toy straight into his mouth.

Simon went with Ron to Chinatown.

Ron tried out Simon’s regular sized stroller without the car seat so that Simon could face forward. He seemed to enjoy it. At least he was relaxed enough to fall asleep.

For dinner this evening, we went to Pho Garden, home of the pho challenge. It was my co-worker’s last day with us so we went to commemorate the day by having a fun dinner out. We were hoping that one of the guys would try the pho challenge but they all wimped out! Well, everyone wanted to get an individual bowl and enjoy their pho, not overstuff themselves… so instead, we got the super pho to share between 3 girls.

It was impressive as it was brought to us.

2 lbs of noodles, 2 lbs of combination beef. The bowl is $25 to share but you don’t get to keep it if you finish it. (The challenge is $22 and you get to keep the bowl if you finish.)

We asked the waitress if we could borrow a bowl for a photo. She said the bowls cost $85! So we were careful not to break it.

I hope next time we go, someone will try the challenge. It was a lot of food and we almost finished… three girls plus Ron had some and Patsy’s husband also had some. Good thing their pho is really tasty.

Pooped after a long day:

Update on poop:
So I think prunes really work. Simon needed a diaper change early this morning. He started fussing and Ron went to check on him and said Simon was stinky. Simon had quietly had a bowel movement sometime in the early morning. Then, he also had another dirty diaper during the day. So his system must be clear now and now we know what to do if he hasn’t pooped for a few days.

Mum + Dad = Me

Day 175

Simon’s morning exercise includes:

Walking around my Exersaucer

and doing some push-ups

After his morning exercise, Simon gets really tired and takes his nap. Lately it’s been 3 hours long! Not sure what is going on with him but at least it gives Ron a prolonged period of time to do work at home during the day. Here he is waking up from a restful nap, all smiles and happy.

Ron dressed Simon up in a new outfit. I bought this tank top at H&M that says “Mum + Dad = Me”. It was a warm day again so he didn’t want to get Simon dressed up in anything too warm. Ron tried to prop Simon up against the couch to stand and he can sort of lean backwards against it but wasn’t really in the mood to have his photo taken. This is the one with the best expression though. It almost doesn’t look like Simon. It also looks like he’s about to fall forward but daddy is always there to catch him in case.

Sometimes babies are so funny. They just want to keep on playing and playing… then suddenly fall asleep.

Ron said that Simon was sitting quietly playing with his toys at his feet. Then a few minutes later when Ron looked up, Simon had completely konked out. So hilarious. Poor guy must have been pooped out.

Simon had more prunes for dinner and unfortunately I got some on his clothes. So I changed him back into his white tank top and just a diaper. It was still too warm for him to wear much else. This heat wave is great! I wish it would last. But anyhow, you can check out all of Simon’s chubby parts: face, arms, legs, belly. Makes you just want to pinch him, doesn’t it?

He was suddenly fascinated by the Boppy pillow’s manufacturer tags. Likely because they’re soft and easy to grab in his little hands. I cut most of the tags off his bibs and other toys so maybe he’s also fascinated because it’s something new. It’s so fun to watch him fascinated by something, I’m just fascinated by him.

Eating peas

Day 174

Simon is able to more effectively do some push ups with his arms. He hasn’t coordinated his legs yet so he moves backward instead of forward. How does that saying go? Sometimes you have to take two steps back before you move forward…

Check out Simon’s strong posture!

For lunch, Simon had peas. He didn’t seem to enjoy it.

Which is weird because this is the second time he’s eaten them. I think last time we might have mixed it with some fruits though so he didn’t mind so much. Ron said he had much funnier expressions at the beginning of the meal but this video captures his almost outright refusal to open his mouth to eat. His eyebrows are so expressive.

Simon and Ron went for a short walk in the afternoon and since it was such a warm sunny day, Ron had to find Simon a hat. He ended up choosing this foam visor which is actually used for bathtime. It is supposed to keep the water from getting into your baby’s eyes when you pour water over their hair. I love his big eyes in this photo.

After their afternoon walk, Simon konked out with Pooh watching over him. He still likes to sleep with a plush, I think it helps him to release the rest of his energy so that he can fall asleep. He’ll grab Pooh by each arm and try to stretch him out or wrap his arms around him and try to roll over or hold him by one hand and toss him around. It’s quite funny to watch him fall asleep.

Simon was konked out again when I came home from work. I thought it funny that he is crossing his ankles.

Eventually Simon did wake up to play with me. I found out he likes it when I make weird sounds. He tends to like “oo-oo” sounds like “Moo-Moo” and “poo-poo” but this was kind of new. I love his laugh.

Update on poop:
So we think the prunes worked. He pooped in the middle of the night but not sure if it was from the prunes or that he was just due to have a bowel movement. Since he didn’t finish the full portion of the prunes, we’ll probably let him have some more tomorrow night and see what it does if anything. At least he really likes eating them.

Sleepy Baby

Day 173

So Simon slept ~8 hours continuously last night, from 9:30pm to almost 5:30am. Not sure how it happened and how to replicate it so he will do it every night but also maybe sleep a bit longer. 5:30am is a bit early for me. I let him play in his crib for a little bit by watching and listening to his mobile then let him quietly play on his play mat in the living room. He went back to sleep around 7am and slept almost until 10am! Since then he’s been a bit sleepyhead all day, taking long naps and often. Maybe the warmer weather made him tired.

Simon’s morning smile… *melt*

His morning nap. He fell asleep with a pacifier in his mouth and holding this plush with both hands… but then he ended spitting out the pacifier and the plush lying on his head.

Simon with daddy playing in the mirror and trying on a new visor from Grandma Tam. This visor is either used for shielding baby’s eyes from the sun or else for taking a bath so that the water doesn’t get in his eyes.

In the afternoon, we went for a BBQ at our friends Patsy and Will. They just remodeled their kitchen (looks great!) and Patsy is taking on a new job in a week. I was anxious that Simon wouldn’t do well with a large party but was pleasantly surprised that he tolerated being held by everyone. He was only a little cranky when he got tired and maybe a little over stimulated but at least didn’t have any meltdowns.

After the party, we got home and Ron fed Simon while I cleaned up my baking mess. I had baked macarons for the party but they didn’t turn out how they should have so ended up being crispy cookies. But I did make a big mess in the kitchen and had lots of things to wash. While I was washing dishes, Simon finished his meal of pureed peaches and was rewarded with playing with the toys on his booster seat. Looks like he’s sitting at a desk at school.

Simon ate well today but didn’t seem like he drank as much milk as usual. We think it may be that he still feels full so has less appetite for milk. He hasn’t pooped since Thursday. Since we were a bit worried, in addition to his pureed peaches, Ron fed him some pureed prunes to see if it will get his gastrointestinal tract moving. My co-worker Jane had posted a video of her baby eating prunes for the first time and she sure had a funny expression… so I filmed Simon but he instead had a very eager reaction to the prunes, opening his mouth and eating it without too much fuss. He seems to really like them.

I will report on the effectiveness of the prunes.
