Future Caffeine Addict

Day 197

Simon was snoring quite loudly early this morning.

Simon may be a future Starbucks addict. Maybe he didn’t feel rested since he was snoring last night…

Actually he is teething and discovered the rim of the cup is a good thing to chew on. Looks like he’s a bit of a caffeine fiend though, doesn’t it?

Today at work, we had a special treat of Kara’s Cupcakes. My favorite is the passion fruit filled cupcake. A nice afternoon snack thanks to Rich!

Simon’s head is getting so big that it’s getting harder to pull things over his head. This is a towel-like bib and as Ron was trying to take it off, it got a bit stuck.

At Simon’s last pediatrician visit, she gave us a book. She said we should read to him everyday and let him play with the book, even if it’s just that he wants to chew on it… well, so far he does mostly want to chew on it but also enjoys trying to flip the pages. This book is called Baby Faces.

For dinner, we met up with relatives from Ron’s side of the family and had dinner at Cafe Tiramisu. Simon ended up sleeping through the whole dinner.

We had a lovely wine.

Food was average. Dessert was better. We shared the bruschetta appetizer. It usually only comes with 4 pieces but since there were 5 of us, they gave us an extra piece.

I had the orchiette which was a bit oily for my taste but there was plenty of sausage and definitely filled me up.

Ron had the ravioli which was crab meat I think. Seemed like a small portion but I guess it lets you save room for dessert.

For dessert, we tried three. Of course their tiramisu.

Creme brulee which I thought was supposed to be espresso but didn’t taste any coffee flavor at all.

Lemon panna cotta with passion fruit sauce. Didn’t taste like lemon at all but the passion fruit sauce was nice and super tangy. The panna cotta itself was more gelatinous versus creamy.

Since Simon slept through dinner, he stayed up late.

He’s saying: Mommy, Daddy, I’m not ready to go to sleep yet! Let’s play!

Laughter

Day 196

Simon will toss and turn sometimes when he is trying to fall asleep so we have to watch him closely or else keep the stuffed animals and blankets away. In this case, he ended up covering himself up with his puppy playmat.

But he is fine underneath and breathing fine. Only thing is that he might wake up because he is too warm.

Ron filmed Simon’s new trick today. He has a dolphin on his exersaucer that can spin and makes noise with beads in it. Simon has learned how to make it spin around and around with his hand… plus he is trying to put it into his mouth.

For some reason Simon was in a really good mood this evening. He was laughing for no reason… or else he thought I was really funny looking. Check out his funny looking hair, it sort of looks like he has a comb-over. He has rubbed off his hair on the back of his head from tossing and turning so the hair is mostly growing on his sides and on top so he has dark patches in those areas and the hair is about 1-2 inches long. Ron would like to shave Simon’s hair off but I don’t think it would be very nice looking and winter is coming up so he’d be cold.

My funny baby.

Taste of a Fresh Peach

Day 195

Good morning!

Ron and Simon dropped by my work again today and we had lunch in the cafeteria. I had a peach for dessert and Simon seemed interested in it so I let him have a taste.

He proceeded to try to gnaw on it and slobber all over it and seemed to enjoy it.

Simon has started making funny sounds again, playing with his saliva and lips. Basically making raspberries which we think he picked up from Ron making funny sounds at him.

Daddy Ron does other funny things with Simon. Here he lets Simon smell his own feet and also lets him kick himself! It’s always amazing to me that Simon is so bendy.

We have been giving Simon bubble baths lately. He has a few floating toys that he splashes around with and plays until he is out of breath. He is getting used to having the water rain over his head with the shower head. He does some sputtering with his lips and blinking of his eyes and then gets frustrated and almost ready to cry but once we move the water away, he’s fine. When he learns how to hold his breath and close his eyes then I’m sure he’ll be fine with showers.

Here he is being dried off after bath time and getting ready for bed.

Sleepy Sunday

Day 194

We all had a very sleepy Sunday today. Ron slept in the morning, I slept in the afternoon and Simon took many little naps. Maybe too much fun in the sun yesterday.

Simon has a new toy that we got on Craigslist. It’s a convertible car to walker. He can either sit on it…

Or use it to support himself to stand. He can’t stand by himself yet so Ron still has to hold him so he won’t bonk his head against the toy.

Simon Smiles!

First Pool Experience

Day 193

So this afternoon we went to Fairfield for our friends’ housewarming party. Along the way, we stopped for Taiwanese brunch at 168 Restaurant in Richmond. Simon waiting patiently for our food.

It’s been years since we’ve come this way and were pleasantly surprised by the food. They had some new brunch menu items but we were totally sad when we realized we forgot to order the stinky tofu! Oh well, next time, since I think we’ll be back again.

They have sweet soy bean milk. This is the hot version. They also have the savory type on their menu..

Ba wan. The bamboo shoots in this were cut a little too big for my taste but Ron says this is the traditional way. I just don’t like how it can get stuck in your teeth with the large pieces.

Rice roll with pork sung, fried dough stick, and preserved vegetables.

Dried noodles with ground pork and a boiled egg.

Green onion crepe with egg. This was made well. The egg was perfect and the green onion crepe thin and a bit crispy.

After brunch, we headed out to Fairfield to see our friends’ house and enjoy their BBQ and outdoor space. They have a pool and jacuzzi and also had this inflatable pool for Simon! Ron had to blow it up and they filled it with water from the big pool. We borrowed a waterproof diaper and let Simon sit in the pool and splash the water and play with some of the pool toys.

He didn’t know quite what to make of the whole situation at first so was a little cranky.

But then he started to really enjoy it. I took him out when his feet started to get prune-y and when the weather started to cool down.

Thanks to Linda, Daniel, and Ariana for having us over! Now Simon will be more prepared when we go to Hawaii next month. I need to find him some swimming trunks!

A note to our blog followers:
It’s been a busy summer so I apologize for the inconsistency of the updates on our blog. Thank you for being patient and always coming to visit! Ron has been doing a great job of taking photos and videos everyday (thanks honey!) but it just takes me some time to upload them and write about Simon’s day. Summer is winding down so I hope we’ll be less busy. Thank you all again for reading!
