Old Town Cafe

Day 208

We went to visit my parents and have lunch together at Old Town Cafe in Dublin for some Singaporean food. Simon had a little nap in the car, he’s giving me the finger…

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Singaporean food. Delicious and almost like the real deal. This is tahu goreng (fried tofu with peanut sauce and cucumbers with added jicama which was yummy).

This is roti prata with accompanying curry sauce. Fresh and piping hot!

Hainanese chicken with rice. The chicken was really tender and the hot sauce was oh so good.

Beef rendang. The meat was very tender and the sauce yummy, very thick and creamy.

Sambal kang kong. Almost like the way we remember it, just not as spicy.

I forgot to take a picture of the laksa noodles before we dug into it. The noodles were a bit soft and we told one of the staff and he said he would be sure to check on it since he says it is supposed to be more al dente. Next time I’ll ask them for more spice since it wasn’t hot enough for me.

Simon and Grandpa Tam outside of the restaurant. Check out those smiles!

Simon had his first taste of fresh watermelon. He was really getting into it and using his lower teeth to try to bite off a piece. I was afraid he was going to choke on it though so didn’t let him eat too much. If you click on the photo, It should bring you to the video.

Free class at Gymboree

Day 207

This afternoon we took Simon to try out Gymboree to get him some exercise and let him see other babies. They are offering two free classes to see if Simon enjoys the classes and it seemed like he had fun. One activity is playing with these cones that cover small plushes and banging these plastic balls on the balance bar.

Practicing crawling on soft cushions towards this rattle.

Standing while holding onto a bar.

In a trance watching the bubbles while singing songs.

We decided to buy the bubbles since he really seemed to like them. He enjoyed the singing and dancing too, laughing out loud.

They are super strong bubbles, they will stay formed for a long period of time. It’s pretty amazing. The staff says the bubbles are non-toxic and made from sugar.

Once we got home, we opened up the bubbles and I started blowing away!

Surrounded by bubbles!

I love his confused expression.

After a tiring day of Gymboree and hanging out with my parents, Simon needed a nap.

The evening was so nice and warm that we went to buy dinner and sit out in Union Square to eat.

But Simon got a little cold and was cranky so Ron wrapped him up in his blanket.

I hope the weather stays like this!

Opera in the Park

Day 206

This is what daddy gets for trying to encourage Simon to stand up so soon. He saw his Starbucks cup on the shelf and started to try to climb up the side of his crib at the grandparents. Once he figured out he could almost do it, he didn’t want to stop.

So they had to remove the bassinet portion of the crib and let him sleep on the bottom. He hasn’t figured out how to do this on the crib at home yet but I’m sure we’ll have to do this soon.

Tonight we went to see Opera in the Park. It was a simulcast of Aida on the AT&T Park’s big screen. Simon fell asleep about 15 minutes into the start of the opera.

My left arm is getting good exercise by holding his head up whenever he naps outside the house when I don’t have the stroller or carrier.

Again, sweaty head. It was a nice night so after he fell asleep, he no longer needed to be covered and could have some breeze to cool his face.

My friends Susan and Virginia came and also helped me to get dinner. Thanks ladies!

Look how crowded the field is. You have to show up early to start lining up if you want to sit on the field. The event is free so when things are free, everyone wants to go.

The orchestra played beautifully and the singing was great… but the acting, not so believable. I enjoyed the story and it was a fun experience to watch it in the park since we likely won’t be going to an opera anytime soon with Simon. The only thing that annoyed me was that we were sitting in the nosebleed seats and there were people around us acting like we were at the real opera. One man was shushing a couple of guys who were whispering about the opera and a lady was giving me dirty looks when Simon let out a few whimpers. I eventually got up and went to walk around with Simon and I accidentally hit her on the head with the strap of the Baby Bjorn and the look she gave me would cut steel. People, it’s free! If you want to act all high and mighty and expect silence, go to the real opera, not opera in the park where there are fire trucks and ambulances driving by and young children are in attendance.

A milestone to mention, Simon has been sleeping through the night for the last two nights, 9 hours continuously! But I’m sure he will be off schedule again after tonight’s Opera in the Park. Oh well, at least we know he can do it, just needs a bit more practice.

Simon’s toy desk

Day 205

Oh no! Where’s Simon?

Ron had a very creative day today. First he tried using this tray table to let Simon practice standing… but Simon wasn’t interested in that. Instead he enjoyed playing with his golf balls on top of it.

Then since TV is bad for his development, Ron instead let Simon people and car watch outside our window.

Next Simon got to practice playing piano while sitting in his booster seat.

My favorite picture of the day is Simon giving Biggie Pooh a hug!

Simon also enjoys books… gnawing on it, not reading it…

Looks like he had a busy day today.

Check out my dimples!

Day 204

Check out my blue dimples! This is what happens when daddy gets bored at home with me.

One of Simon’s favorite toys is this yellow plastic bucket. We call it a “can” to make it a simpler word. It’s actually part of a shape sorter so there are plastic pieces that go inside. But whenever we give it to him full of toys, he will overturn it right away and try to dump everything out.

Simon also has a toy computer that we just opened. He received this as a gift from our friends in Singapore. We decided to open it because he was really interested in our laptops and always trying to move toward the screen and try to bang on the keys. We’ll see how long he stays interested in this toy. It teaches the alphabet, numbers, words, and melodies.

We had dinner out tonight for the Harvest Moon at Capital Restaurant. The special dish of the evening were these giant clams.

Close-up of the sliced clams with the glass noodles.

Simon was bored during our dinner. Maybe he was craving some frog legs instead of the chicken legs we were having.

I was holding Simon tonight while he took a little nap and I had his head covered with a blanket. When I took a peek underneath, Simon was very sweaty!

The beads of sweat and his damp hair. Poor guy easily sweats on his forehead, hands, and feet.

Here is a video from this morning, Simon laughing at daddy making a “chomping” sound. Silly boys.
