Broaster Chicken and Transformers

After a half day of work, Ron and I went out to Daly City to see if we could catch a movie. First we stopped by Broaster Chicken in Westlake since this used to be a favorite place of mine when I was little. My parents used to really love their chicken, better that KFC. It was a little strange to see they also served things like sashimi and udon, I don’t think they used to serve those items when I was a little kid.

Anyhow, we ordered the 3 pc chicken with two sides and a roll. I chose the fries and cole slaw. The fries are crinkle cut fries and the cole slaw a bit watery. The chicken was still nice and moist as I remembered it and the skin nice and crispy. It was still a bit oily, which is something I didn’t remember from childhood. It was a nostalgic lunch. Not sure if we’ll be back.

Afterwards, we went to catch Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. I had heard that the movie was supposed to be bad because the plot was terrible and the transformers looked fake. So I wasn’t expecting much but I wanted to see it for myself. The movie was really long but I still enjoyed it. If only they really existed, that’d be so cool…

Domino’s Pizza

Too tired to go out or to cook so we ordered pizza. Been eating badly since we’ve come back from Hawaii… need to stock the refrigerator.

We ordered Domino’s large Philly Cheese Steak American Legends pizza along with the Chicken Carbonara Breadbowl Pasta.

This is the pizza with the Brooklyn crust, thin but chewy. Pizza was very creamy.

The pasta breadbowl. Also very creamy… a bit of a strange concept but would be good with a tomato sauce for the bread bowl.

Domino’s has this Facebook pizza delivery tracker app which says your order will arrive in 30 minutes. Not the case. After 45 minutes had passed without our pizza, we called and the customer service said “the 30 minutes is only an estimate”… so where the heck is our pizza? It happened to be delivered 10 minutes after that. What a useless Facebook app.

Star Trek Movie Date at Tanforan

Ron and I had a movie date to see Star Trek. We had some time to kill beforehand so went to get a little snack at Wetzel’s Pretzels. These are cheese sticks, it cost about $4.

The powdered cheese was kind of stinky. I was a bit disappointed, especially since I know how easy it is to make pretzels… but it was a good snack.

The movie was great. A bit corny but believable in how they portrayed all the classic characters.

Afterwards we picked up dinner at Saigon Cuisine inside the mall. I tried their Bun Bo Hue (the spicy broth with pork blood). It was good in most respects, the noodles were the correct thick rice noodles, there was actually pork blood in it, and lots of yummy vegetables. I would only complain that it could have been a tad bit spicier but it’s the closest thing I have found to the one I used to eat in Stockton.

Tony’s Cable Car Restaurant

I had a craving for burgers tonight. Ron says because I’m low in iron so my body is sending me signals to eat red meat.

Anyways, we decided to try Tony’s Cable Car Restaurant which is a few blocks from where we live. The burgers were fresh and hot and the onion rings crispy and oily… yum… (and ick at the same time).

I had the sauteed mushroom burger. It was so thick I could hardly fit it in my mouth to get everything in one bite. By the end it felt apart and I had to eat it in pieces.

The onion rings were freshly fried and a bit oily but yummy.

Ron had the rib eye sandwich. The meat was a bit tough but a good sized sandwich.

We shared a banana shake. Hit the spot at the end of the greasy meal.

This place is much better than McD, BK, Jack, etc. The burgers were freshly prepared and still had a good amount of fresh vegetables inside, makes you feel sort of healthy still 😛

Maui Day 2

Our first stop this morning was at Burger King for breakfast. Last time we visited Hawaii, we went to McDonald’s and they served Spam with breakfast so we wanted to see what BK offered. They do have spam or portuguese sausage served with rice and scrambled eggs.

Next we visited the Kula Botanical Garden. It’s a bit of a drive but quite peaceful.

They have a small aviary with white doves and love birds. These two were very cute as they were the only ones really sitting next to each other and they kept on pushing each other, kind of like they were having a disagreement or something.

The bumble bees look a lot different here, almost like a beetle.

There are some interesting wood sculptures throughout the garden.

There is another enclosure where they keep other fowl. This was an interesting bird.

They also have this three-horned gecko in an enclosure. Never seen anything like this before. It was changing it’s skin.

After the walk through the botanical gardens, we headed to Surfing Goat Dairy. We saw this hilarious set of signs on the way there.

We were greeted by the “kids”.

We don’t normally like goat products (milk, cheese) but thought we’d try out the chevre flight, 6 soft spreadable cheeses of your choice. We tried:

Purple Rain – mix of dried lavenders
Rolling Green – fresh garlic chives
Alaskan Delight – smoked salmon, green peppercorns
Mango Supreme – fresh mangoes, mango chutney
Ole! – jalepenos, artichokes, cilantro, lime juice
Mandalay – apple, bananas, curry

They serve it with a large basket of crackers. We were surprised that they didn’t have that pungent goat taste or smell. We’ve tried other cheeses and milk which we could hardly swallow because the smell and taste was overpowering. Not the case here, the cheeses were very light and pleasantly flavored. It was a good snack.

The farm also has friendly dogs and cats. They love the cheese and crackers.

After our snack, we headed to check in at our hotel. We had a high floor room with a beautiful view.

For dinner we stayed in and had Safeway club sandwiches and Hawaiian beer, wheat ale with passion fruit.
