Bridal Shower

Day 103

I spent this afternoon away from Simon for my friend Kathleen’s bridal shower.  The host has a lovely home in the Los Altos Hills and they provided a delicious catered lunch and we enjoyed good conversation.  The most entertaining part of the afternoon was when the hostess’ and their friends created a “wedding dress” for Kathleen using the wrapping and tissue paper from her presents.  Two of us also helped to create a “bouquet” using a paper plate and the ribbons from her presents.  I guess I probably haven’t been to too many bridal showers as only recently have I heard of creating a bouquet from the ribbons and this was the first time I’ve seen a dress made from wrapping paper.  The aunties were very creative with the paper and made a pretty good looking dress and veil.  But I only have an ordinary clothing photo to show from the end of the party.  It was a beautiful warm day.

I got a chance to look at the photo CD I received from the restaurant yesterday and have one photo to share of our little family.

I forgot to share this photo yesterday so thought I’d cheat and do it today.  Simon and I still went for our walk in the evening and it never fails that he will fall asleep when we go into Old Navy.  I didn’t realize he fell asleep again until I caught a glimpse of him in the mirror.

I was wondering why people were smiling as they passed us… he looks totally konked out.

Since Simon’s been sleeping so well, I thought it’d be appropriate to share a picture of him after he fell asleep tonight.  Using Winnie the Pooh to keep him from using his right arm to pull out his pacifier no longer works as well so now we’ve resorted to wrapping his right arm in but keeping his left arm out.  He usually still likes to have one arm out because he’ll struggle if we wrap both arms.  He’s still able to get his arm out but it takes some effort so he is usually too tired to care for the moment.

He slept almost a continuous 9 hours last night but he did cry out twice during the first two hours but still seemed asleep.  He must of have had a really bad dream but was too tired to wake up.  Poor little man was probably completely exhausted after not napping well all day.

Muscle Simon at Moonstar Buffet

Day 102

We’ll check out Simon’s muscles later…

We had a Red Egg & Ginger party at Moonstar Buffet in Daly City for my parents’ family and friends.  Our allotted time was from 10am to 1pm but our guests did not start arriving until about 11am.  Simon had to take a little nap beforehand since he’s not really a morning person, he’s more awake in the late afternoon so doesn’t like to take long naps after 1pm.  He seems like the opposite of what the books say, where kids take a 1 hour nap in the morning and a 2 hour nap in the afternoon.  Instead he’ll take many long naps (sometimes three 1-2 hour naps) before 1pm and only take about two 30-45 minute naps after 1pm before bedtime at 8:30pm.

It was sort of good that people arrived late so that Ron and I could grab some food first.  The buffet was open already (see behind Simon).  Unfortunately there was a lot of activity around Simon so he was quite cranky that he could not fall into a deep sleep.  He kept on waking up and falling back asleep and waking up, etc.  He eventually really did konk out from exhaustion after crying when I went to change his diaper.  He was literally screaming in the bathroom as I was changing his diaper, I think likely from the fan they had running inside which was really loud and probably annoyed the heck out of him.

Here is Simon with my parents.

Overall, the experience at Moonstar was good.  They check-in your guests at the front and give them colored wrist bands to match your party.  The wrist bands give them a head count and make sure they are allowed guests.  The staff reserves tables by placing a colored balloon (in our case, blue) on the chairs and also provide a reception table to greet your guests.  They also provide red eggs and ginger for you.  The buffet is reasonably priced and discounted for parties.  There are different prices depending on the time slot and if it is for lunch or dinner.  They also provide hosts to help you with your party.  The two ladies that helped us took photos for us with their camera, made a photo CD, and helped to remind our guests that our time slot was almost up (they mentioned they were going to do this but I didn’t see them doing it and we were a bit rushed to leave in the end).  I think everyone definitely got enough to eat and it’s always nice to catch up with relatives that we haven’t seen for a long time… probably since our wedding!

After the party, we headed over to visit the grave of my dad’s parents in Colma.  We visit every year either around Easter or this time since my grandmother passed away after Mother’s Day and my grandfather passed away after Father’s Day.  They both passed away before my brother and I were born but we always visit with our parents to pay our respects.

Simon was pooped out after having so much attention today that he took a long nap when we got home.  First he didn’t get much sleep at the restaurant and second he was inundated with so many new faces.

But let’s check out his muscular arms!  I got him this new outfit a few weeks ago because of the tiger and I thought it’d be great for summer.

At the restaurant he had to wear a jacket and pants since it was cold inside but once we got back into San Francisco, it was nice and warm in our apartment so we stripped off the outerwear.  Check out those chubby little legs!  His feet are already growing too big for those Trumpette socks but I think they’re so cute so he’ll keep on wearing them until he grows completely out of them.

Closer look at his arms:

Don’t you just want to pinch them?!!

We didn’t take many pictures on our own camera so I hope people will send us theirs.  But then I do have the photo CD from the restaurant so I’ll have to check them out to see if they are any good ones to post.

Sleeping update: 8 hours! Fed then slept another 2 hours!  Yay!  Consistent sleep is good.

Blowing Bubbles

Day 101

Simon with a crossed eye, slightly PO’d look.  He had just woken up from a nap and wasn’t quite awake yet so didn’t really know what was going on.

IMG_0567.JPG

Simon is going through bibs quickly with his increasing drool.  He ends up soaking through the bib and then through his shirt.  It might be causing the rash he has on this chest so tomorrow we have to make sure to put him in a bib that has a plastic backing so that it won’t soak through his shirt.  He loves blowing bubbles! and talking all the while.

IMG_0572.JPG

We went out all afternoon since it was a beautiful day in San Francisco.  I was carrying him in the Baby Bjorn and took a rest at Starbucks and after a few minutes, he started to cry.  As soon as I went outside into the sun, he would stop and start smiling again.  I tested it a few times and he would cry inside Starbucks and immediately stop when outside.  I wonder if it’s the coffee smells, the noises, or the temperature (the AC was on so cooler inside)?

Sleeping update: 8 hours and 45 minutes!  Woke up at 6am, drank 130 ml (~4 oz) milk and went back to sleep for another 2 hours and 20 minutes!

Small Paul by Paul Frank for Target

Day 100

Today, June 10, 2010 marks Simon’s 100th day!  We went down to San Mateo to purchase some official copies of his birth certificate.  We haven’t had a chance to head down there since Simon was born but the certificate was available 2 weeks after his birth.  It was a pretty simple process of filling out a form, showing ID, and paying $19 for each copy.

First we went to have lunch and for some reason, Simon was fussy.  He was like this yesterday too.  Not sure why it’s been around lunchtime.  Maybe because we were eating at a restaurant so it’s different than the normal routine.  Eventually he was able to fall asleep.

IMG_0558.JPG

We went to visit Ron’s parents and Simon was dressed to impress.  I’ve discovered Small Paul by Paul Frank for Target.  It’s much more affordable (this onesie was only $7.99!) than the Paul Frank store.  Although the material might not be as nice as I discovered a little hole already on this onesie, it’s still cute.

IMG_0561.JPG

Or it’s the baby that makes the clothes cute?

Sleeping update:  Last night Simon slept 6.5 hours, woke up to eat, then slept another 3 hours.  Getting closer to consistently sleeping through the night…

Stretch!

Day 99

For the second time in a week, Simon slept 7 hours continuously.  Ron and I were both amazed.  It’s very encouraging that he will hopefully soon be sleeping through the night.  We didn’t do much except start a bedtime routine and let Simon naturally change his own sleep habits.  Simon did not really nap much in the late afternoon so was probably very tired but I’m still surprised he could stay asleep for so long.

In the morning, I love it when Simon stretches, it’s just so cute!  This isn’t quite his fully stretched position but it’s hard to catch.

IMG_0547.JPG

We went for lunch at City View Restaurant for dim sum.  For some reason, Simon got really fussy inside the restaurant and started to cry uncontrollably.  We weren’t sure if it was because of the noise, the smells, or if he was just tired… it took me about 10-15 minutes to calm him down outside before I was able to go back to finish having lunch.  He fell asleep during the rest of our meal (but then ended up only sleeping about 25 minutes…)

IMG_0549.JPG

Simon seems to be on a 48 hour schedule.  One day, he’ll nap a lot during the day then that night, will sleep 3-4 hour durations.  The next day, he’ll nap a lot in the morning only, take only a short nap in the late afternoon, then sleep 4-6 hour durations.  Since last night, he slept 7 hours, I’m expecting he will be waking up more often tonight but we’ll see.

This is the new wallpaper on my phone:

I love his big eyes!
